Study proposes transformation of Pimlico Race Course
A long-awaited study by the Maryland Stadium Authority recommends tearing down Pimlico Race Course and rebuilding a new one. In addition to a new track, the proposal calls for retail, a grocery store, a hotel and townhouses -- and the price tag is hefty, at $423.7 million, but the return could be tremendous. Mayor Catherine Pugh said the new amenities would bring in more than $800 million in public and private investments.

Video: Will the Preakness stay in Baltimore?
The old question is being raised once again as the owners of Pimlico Race Course are heavily investing in Laurel Park and making it known that they have no desire to pour their own money into Pimlico. Mixed messages from the track's owner, The Stronach Group, are fueling speculation that the second jewel of the Triple Crown is destined for Laurel. Watch the video to see what the track owners say are the options.

Pimlico Opening Day 2013
And they're off at Old Hilltop! Live racing in Maryland shifted to historic Pimlico Race Course Thursday for the spring meeting. The headline event of the 36-day stand is the 138th running of the $1 million Preakness Stakes , the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, on May 18. The first race on opening day at Pimlico, a 6 furlong $15,000 claimer on the dirt oval, was won by Mezza Luna Farm's Roman's Touch with Erick Rodriguez and Dale Capuano the first jockey and trainer respectively to earn a trip to the newly renovated Pimlico winner's circle. It was nice to be able to run the first race and win it, Capuano said from the winner's circle. So hopefully there will be good things to come.
Live racing takes place four days a week on a Thursday through Sunday schedule prior to Preakness and then Friday, Saturday and Sunday (plus Memorial Day). The meet will end on June 8, Belmont Stakes day. Video shot and produced by WBAL's Scott Wykoff (April 4, 2013)
Places to see in ( Baltimore - USA )
Places to see in ( Baltimore - USA )
Baltimore is a major city in Maryland with a long history as an important seaport. Fort McHenry, birthplace of the U.S. national anthem, “The Star-Spangled Banner,” sits at the mouth of Baltimore’s Inner Harbor. Today, this harbor area offers shops, upscale crab shacks and attractions like the Civil War–era warship the USS Constellation and the National Aquarium, showcasing thousands of marine creatures.
Baltimore is a popular tourist destination in Maryland, in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States of America, near Washington, D.C. It is perhaps most famously known historically as the city where Francis Scott Key wrote the lyrics for the Star Spangled Banner during the Battle of Baltimore of the War of 1812. Today it has become a major center for tourism and travel. Local highlights include excellent seafood (steamed blue crabs, raw oysters, Maryland crab cakes, and Maryland crab soup) and Camden Yards (the first retro major league ball park and where the Baltimore Orioles play). Baltimore possesses a vibrant arts scene with the largest free arts festival in the US (Artscape) occurring annually in July, a renowned arts museum American Visionary Arts Museum that is dedicated to outsider art, and the Maryland Institute College of Art and the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins. It is also home to Johns Hopkins University, Morgan State University, University of Baltimore, Loyola University, Goucher College, and the Notre Dame of Maryland University.
Baltimore has an absolutely staggering number of officially designated neighborhoods, Inner Harbor, If you are a tourist, you come here. Fells Point could not be more complementary to the Inner Harbor—historic. An incongruous mix of Baltimore's central business district, the University of Maryland-Baltimore, the awe inspiring Lexington Market, the infamously seedy Block, and the Bromo Arts District.
One of the nicest sections of the city, home to the performing arts district, Penn Station, and a host of other attractions (Walters Art Museum, the original Washington Monument, dining and wining on Charles St, the University of Baltimore, Station North Arts District etc.) that most visitors foolishly pass over. South Baltimore
Industrial blue-collar South Baltimore is dying, and is quickly being replaced with upscale gentrified neighborhoods like Federal Hill.
Most visitors to the area know only Johns Hopkins University and the always interesting commercial strip along Charles St nearby. But it is unfortunate that they overlook the quirkiest of quirky neighborhoods, Hampden. Infamous West Baltimore. If you have watched the Wire, this was where the crime was taking place! But don't be fooled. There are some major tourist draws here, like the Maryland Zoo in Druid Hill Park, Pimlico Racecourse, and Edgar Allen Poe's House.Baltimore's great rivalry between east and west is certainly an example of the narcissism of small differences. Attractions in the east are very few and far between, but things are changing fast as booming Johns Hopkins Medical Campus expands and demolishes in its wake.

Pimlico Opening Day 2012.
The Preakness must be right around the corner. It was opening day on Friday March 30, 2012 at Pimlico Race Course. That means it's 50 days and counting until Preakness Day. It's really, really exciting, Maryland Jockey Club President Tom Chuckas told WBAL's Scott Wykoff in the winner's circle at Pimlico after the first race on opening day at Old Hilltop. We're really positive about this meet. We've got a tremendous set of events coming up prior to Preakness week and obviously as you well know Preakness culminates it. But we are super excited. A lot of positive trends going on right now. A lot of changes with the guests and the guest services so I think this is going to be an exciting time for Maryland racing. Racing Returns To Pimlico For 2011 Season
Live racing returns to Pimlico Race Course on Friday as the Maryland Jockey Club fights to keep horse racing alive in the state. Rob Roblin reports on opening day.
A Day at the Races
Horse racing is an equestrian sport that has a long history. Horse racing in the United States and on the North American continent dates back to 1665.
The footage was shot at the Pimlico Race Track in Baltimore Maryland. Pimlico Race Course is a horse racetrack in Baltimore, Maryland, most famous for hosting the Preakness Stakes. Its name is derived from the 1660s when English settlers named the area where the facility currently stands in honor of Olde Ben Pimlico's Tavern in London. The racetrack is nicknamed Old Hilltop after a small rise in the infield that became a favorite gathering place for thoroughbred trainers and race enthusiasts.
