Plains Conservation Center
A truly fun visit to the (Colorado) Plains Conservation Center outside of Denver. Visit their site at
The adorable part is that the prairie life left when we arrived, so I stayed behind and sure enough they returned. I recommend this as a field trip for schools, churches and civic groups. The Docents are very knowledgeable and delightful to listen to. The bricks of some of the sod houses are too small, but they confess this. As a Colorado Native I caught a few things that were misplaced for the era, but over all it was a very nice visit.

Central Great Plains in HD
This video was taken by the crew of Expedition 30 on board the International Space Station. The sequence of shots was taken January 30, 2012 from 06:14:22 to 06:19:03 GMT, on a pass from northern Mexico, near the Texas/Mexico border, to eastern Indiana, near Cincinnati, Ohio. This pass begins as the International Space Station travels northeast looking northwest. The brighter city lights are those of the southwestern United States, like Phoenix and El Paso. The pass continues up the Great Plains, where the city lights of Oklahoma City and Tulsa can be seen before continuing northeast towards Kansas City. The last city that is easily seen is Chicago, while the Aurora Borealis is shining to the far north.

SUMMARY
=======
Denver (), officially the City and County of Denver, is the capital and most populous municipality of the U.S. state of Colorado. Denver is located in the South Platte River Valley on the western edge of the High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The Denver downtown district is immediately east of the confluence of Cherry Creek with the South Platte River, approximately 12 mi (19 km) east of the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Denver is named after James W. Denver, a governor of the Kansas Territory. It is nicknamed the Mile High City because its official elevation is exactly one mile (5280 feet or 1609.3 meters) above sea level. The 105th meridian west of Greenwich, the longitudinal reference for the Mountain Time Zone, passes directly through Denver Union Station.
Denver is ranked as a Beta world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network. With an estimated population of 716,492 in 2018, Denver is the 19th-most populous U.S. city, and with a 19.38% increase since the 2010 United States Census, it has been one of the fastest-growing major cities in the United States. The 10-county Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, CO Metropolitan Statistical Area had an estimated 2018 population of 2,932,415 and is the 19th most populous U.S. metropolitan statistical area. The 12-city Denver-Aurora, CO Combined Statistical Area had an estimated 2018 population of 3,572,798 and is the 15th most populous U.S. metropolitan area. Denver is the most populous city of the 18-county Front Range Urban Corridor, an oblong urban region stretching across two states with an estimated 2018 population of 4,976,781. Denver is the most populous city within a 500-mile (800 km) radius and the second-most populous city in the Mountain West after Phoenix, Arizona. In 2016, Denver was named the best place to live in the United States by U.S. News & World Report.
Toys R Us Stores Going Up For Auction
Toys R Us continues to fade away like a victim of the Thanos Snap, after closing its doors earlier this summer. Now comes a report that over 120 Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores are going up for auction.
Market Watch reports that an August 13 -14th auction will include 123 Toys R Us locations in twenty-nine states. In midst of these assets being sold off, there is already a movement in the works to reboot the retailer, which is being spearheaded by former CEO, Jerry Storch. No word yet on how far along that effort is; it was reported earlier that this sort of auctioning off of the company's assets could be a major challenge to a reboot effort.
NEW YORK, July 31, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- In a rare opportunity for retailers, landlords and real estate investors, a total of 123 Toys R Us and Babies R Us owned and ground-leased properties in 29 states will be auctioned on August 13-14 in Manhattan, provided that qualified bids exceed a certain threshold on August 7 [th] . Advisory and real estate brokerage A&G Realty Partners is conducting the auction and Lazard is acting as investment banker to Toys R Us and its affiliated debtors. The deadline for all bids is August 7 [th] .
With stores ranging in size from 20,000 to 65,000 square feet, the assets on offer include 10 locations in California, 18 in Ohio and multiple stores in states such as Illinois, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.
The two-day auction will begin at 10:00 a.m. on August 13 [th] at the Manhattan offices of debtors' counsel Kirkland & Ellis LLP, 601 Lexington Ave., provided that qualified bids exceed a certain threshold on August 7 [th] . The properties include Toys R Us and Babies R Us locations, as well as side-by-side or combined stores featuring both nameplates. Some of the sites are freestanding, while others are located in shopping centers. They include 112 owned and 11 ground-leased properties, according to A&G Realty, which in prior auctions sold more than 130 Toys R Us sites.
This latest auction presents a rare opportunity for buyers to advance their real estate strategies with well located, high-visibility big-box sites that can work for single-users or be subdivided, said Emilio Amendola, Co-President of A&G Realty. Rarely do these many prime retail properties become available all at once. As with our prior, well-attended auctions for Toys R Us sites, we anticipate a robust response to this group of properties.

Loud Door Operator! ThyssenKrupp Synergy MRL Traction Elevator-SSB-SCC-Sacramento, CA
(SSB-Student Services Building) This is one of the newest elevators on campus. It's a ThyssenKrupp Synergy with MaD fixtures! The indicators are Signa 4 though. This is an MRL traction elevator that runs very nicely. The cab is a bit basic though. I love the sound that the door operator makes when it opens the door. I find it interesting how the arrow on the floor indicator doesn't show which direction the elevator is moving (not like you can't already tell anyway). It only shows the arrow of direction before the elevator moves. Most indicators show the arrow the whole time.

Sean Gerrity: American Prairie Reserve | Talks at Google
Are you thinking BIG enough?
What could convince an ex-Silicon Valley entrepreneur to dedicate the next chapter of his life to the grasslands of Montana? A puzzle that will take generations to solve, and the chance to leave a permanent, positive mark on the Earth and humanity — one that will be visible from space.
Join American Prairie Reserve president and National Geographic Explorer Sean Gerrity as he brings the spirit of the legendary Great Plains to Mountain View and shares gorgeous photos and videos documenting his team’s progress in building the largest wildlife complex ever assembled in the continental United States. When complete, the Reserve will be more than four times the size of Yosemite, more than one million acres larger than Yellowstone National Park, and home to wildlife populations on par with Africa’s Serengeti.
There is no road map for conservation on this scale. Sean and team are pioneering an innovative approach to extraordinarily large land assembly, complex sociological challenges and unique public private partnerships that are helping to re-start the Golden Era of large-scale conservation in the U.S. Sean will speak on applying what he learned about creativity and building upon big ideas during his twenty years in the Valley to something that will one day be appreciated by millions.

There are more art resources at:
To draw in two point perspective start with drawing a horizon line. This is the line between the land and the sky and it is also the eye line; the height of the viewers eye.
Next add two dots on the horizon line. These are called vanishing points. Add two lines, starting from the bottom of your paper to one vanishing point, to make a road. All parallel lines, if they continued, would end up at one of these vanishing points, where they meet, always at the point and on the horizon line.
All vertical lines should be straight and parallel with the side of your paper. This would be different in three point perspective.
Draw the big shapes first and then add details. As the details in your drawing go towards the vanishing point, they need to be drawn smaller and closer together.

Klondike Alaska: A Rail History
For most people, railroads in Alaska and the Yukon are synonymous with the Alaska Railroad and the White Pass and Yukon Railroad whose passenger cars provide tourists with vistas of awe-inspiring terrain. That same terrain provided enormous challenges for early settlers of both territories. Railroads were an integral part of overcoming those challenges. Dozens of other railroads also laid track in Alaska, the Yukon, and northwest British Columbia and provided the means to transport supplies to settlements and to transport the region’s raw materials to outside markets. Klondike Alaska charts the history of many of those railroads. ©KUAC 2005

Rastreo y Conservación de Jaguares en Colombia - TvAgro por Juan Gonzalo Angel
Twitter @juangangel
