The first museum in America dedicated entirely to slavery opened a few months ago in Wallace, Louisiana. Michelle Miller visits the museum and found a surprising history, not only about the plantation, but her own family.

Miracle in Plantation
A Tornado hit Plantation Florida October 18th, 2011. Missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints left Books of Mormon in the area that was hit. Ten minutes before the tornado came, the missionaries returned back to the Mission Home. This was the news cast the next day of the devistation that occurred, and the miracle that occured with one of the homes where a Book of Mormon was accepted. Channel 7 Miami News.

While I was in the Baton Rouge, LA area for JB's Spring Fling, I did a bit of site seeing. This plantation is about 15 miles from Baton Rouge. It is well worth visiting. There is certainly more to see than just what I have here, but this will give you a very good start at what you may expect on a tour of this beautiful antebellum plantation.
And Yes I am very aware of how long this video is. I asked at the gift shop/entrance to the plantation about taking videos and photos at the site and was given the OK to create this video.

Noah visits Plantation's Historical Museum
Here in #Plantation we have amazing facilities, including our local museum, which, according to it's mission statement exists to preserve the history of our city where the grass is greener.
It's Christmas time, and within it's displays are some amazing trees, including one which displays the flags of every nation - along with the Stars and Stripes, we see Canada's Maple Leaf, and Venezuela's tri-colored as well.
Guillermo admires a tree which features a history of the United States Presidents, and Noah enjoys one with DINOSAURS!
What a fantastic display, and of course the boys LOVE to see the classic FIRE TRUCK!!

This is a must see if you are in the area. I LOVED this home!.
The energy I got from this home was of a warm and loving home where the slaves were considered Family. Many of them stayed on after emancipation because I believe, they were loved.
The writing on the walls in my opinion, where writings of some of the slaves who were taught by the Plantation owners , how to read and write. This is still denied today. Freedom of expression underneath the plaster in my opinion.
There are many places in history where Slaves where tortured and hurt but this place is not like that. Goes to show you, that there were people who knew the value of another human during the days of slavery. They risked a lot in order to educate the slaves and slaves were considered part of the family.
Visiting this home reminded me that there were good people in history that did not get credit for the sacrifices they made to help others. Some confederate southerners risked a lot to help the slaves and they should not be forgotten.
This Plantation is being renovated . I would visit it soon before some larger organization takes over and makes it into a stuffy museum that could portray other agendas.
In history there was hate but there was also Love . You will have to decide that for yourself after visiting this Plantation.????????
