5th Avenue tour - Playa Del Carmen Mexico
With it's shops and restaurants, 5th Avenue running parallel with the Caribbean Sea is a favorite haunt of travelers visiting Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya.
Strolling in shorts and sandals, even with Christmas decorations around, it was hard to grasp that Christmas was just around the corner.
Peaceful, quiet and tranquil, this is the real Mexico.

Top 5 Things To Do in Playa del Carmen | What To Do in Playa del Carmen
Here are my personal Top 5 Things to do when you are coming down to Playa del Carmen. Playa del Carmen was put on the map because of the traffic of tourism attracted to Cancun, and eventually Playa del Carmen was going to be discovered. A few decades ago, Playa del Carmen, which is now one of the fastest growing towns in the world, was nothing more than a small fishing village. With the expansion of tourism along, what is now known as the Riviera Maya, Playa del Carmen has grown at an incredible rate, all thanks to tourism. As you can imagine, with tourism, influx of money and people, there is a strong need for things to do, activities and tourist attractions while in Playa del Carmen. Of course, it is known for the beaches but people these days want more than just sitting on a beach, especially when you are coming down for longer than a week, or an indefinite trip. This video explains my Top 5 What to do in Playa del Carmen.
Listed below are a number of other videos on this channel which show some other incredible things to do in the Playa del Carmen area and the Mayan Riviera in general.

⚓ Popular Question: Why Urban Beachbum? ⚓
Maja has an unexplained obsession with the ocean and beaches. In high school, when discussing cliques with her best friend Alison, Maja realized she didn't fit any of the traditional clique stereotypes, so Alison bestowed the title Urban Beachbum on Maja and it has lived in her heart ever since! To Maja it basically means living urban but dreaming of the beach, and attempting to live life with a relaxed beach attitude.

Tulum Mayan Ruins - Cruise Excursion 4K
The Tulum Mayan Ruins is an extremely popular tourist destination located in Mexico. Tulum is just a short distance from Cancún and Playa del Carmen on the east coast of the Yucatán Peninsula. It is one of the best-preserved Maya sites.
The Tulum ruins are situated on a 40 foot cliff overlooking the Caribbean Sea. There is a staircase down to the beach where visitors can swim at one of the most breathtaking beaches.
There are bus tours that stop at Tulum each day. It is also a very popular cruise excursion. Cruise lines such as Norwegian, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival have tours that go to Tulum when in port at Cozumel, Mexico.
This video is a complete overview of the Tulum Mayan Ruins tour excursion through Norwegian Cruise Lines.
It starts off with a 40 minute ferry ride from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen. After you arrive, there is a short walk to a coach bus. The bus ride to Tulum is about 50 minutes long. Once in Tulum your tour guide will take you around the ruins and give you a very informative and entertaining overview of the ancient Mayan City. The guided tour takes about 45 minutes. After the guided tour you have about 90 minutes to explore on your own. You can take that time to walk around the ruins or go swimming at the beautiful beach 40 feet below the cliffs. After that you head back to Playa del Carmen and board the ferry back to Cozumel.
There is a short clip of my amazing tour guide, Juan. He is extremely knowledgeable and entertaining. If you take the tour, hopefully you get him because he was great!
In the clip, Juan is talking about the one day a year that the sunrise perfectly lines up to shine directly through the temple window. That day just so happens to be June 21, the summer solstice.
In the video you will see the 3 major structors at Tulum.
Pyramid El Castillo (The Castle)
Templo Dios del Viento (God of Winds Temple)
Temple of the Frescos

These white vans, called colectivos, are mini-bus lines that service the route of the Riviera Maya- Cancun to Tulum. These are highly economical and also convenient. You can take these mini-vans from their “terminals” or flag them down on the highway. Just make sure you are in a safe and visible sport when you flag these down. Just wave your arm, and the driver will stop for you. You can also get off at any point in the highway.s
The driver, upon approaching you, will flash his lights on and off. This is to ask you if you want to ride his mini-van, as there is space available. If you wave, the driver will stop. Once hopping on, inform the driver of your desired destination.
The colectivos servicing the Cancun-Tulum route run up and down Highway 307 every 15 to 30 minutes during the day starting from 5:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. There are also other colectivos service other routes to places in the area.
There are two colectivo terminals in Playa del Carmen: one on Avenida 20, between Calle 12 and 14 and one on Avenida Juarez corner 5th Avenue.
There is usually no fixed schedule of departure, as a colectivo usually waits to be filled before it leaves the “terminal.” The maximum capacity of a colectivo is usually 10 passengers.
Tips:
Be on the lookout for your stop. Although the driver has been informed of where you want to get off, it will be better for you to tell him to stop when you have reached your desired destination.
Payment is made when you exit the colectivo.

Love the location and the atmosphere in this little, relatively speaking, city. Away from the upscale Fifth Ave., you can go shopping in 2 Walmarts or a new indoor shopping center.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico's Must-Visit Beach City
Playa del Carmen is known for its all-inclusive resorts. But it's a cool, energetic, bustling city that begs to be explored.
ABANDONED STRIP CLUB | EXPLORING PLAYA DEL CARMEN MEXICO | URBAN DECAY
Every time I saw this place on the side of the highway between Playa del Carmen and Tulum, I always thought it was a resort. I had put it on my list of places to go exploring in the future. When we finally had a free day to check it out, I was shocked. No fences, no guards, no tape. It was an abandoned Gentlemen's Club... aka a strip club... right beside the busiest highway in Quintana Roo, Mexico. It had Urban Exploration written all over it.
I always try to do my research before we do an adventure. The history is half the fun of the place. Every abandoned building has a story, and love sharing it. However, there was nothing about this place online. I would guess it's over 30 years old, before the days of facebook pages and yelp reviews. It's condition is pretty great actually. Normally when you go urban exploring there is a ton of graffiti on these places. Not the case here. Hareem Gentlemen's Club by Playa del Carmen, Mexico does not exist on the web.
Because of it's proximity to big nightlife hubs like Cancun, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, I had a suspicion there could have bee people living inside. Hunch confirmed.... but why the roof??
