Lima, the capital of Peru, is a vibrant and lively city. The Centro Historico district is a UNESCO World Heritage site and the birthplace of the city. Here you will find the Plaza Mayor, formerly called Plaza de Armas. This central square is surrounded by many historically significant and culturally important buildings as listed below:
- Palacio de Gobierno or Government Palace – is also known as the House of Pizarro. Here is the seat of the executive brand of the government and the official residence of the President of Peru. The building was originally built by Francisco Pizarro in 1535.
- Palacio Municipal de Lima or City Hall of Lima – This is the City of Lima metropolitan headquarters.
- Cathedral Basilica of Lima or the Cathedral of Lima – the original construction began in 1535. The exterior is of colonial structure and facade, and the interior contains 14 side chapels, the tomb of conquistador Francisco Pizarro and crypts from the 17th century
- Archbishops Palace of Lima – The residence of the Archbishop of Lima and the administrative headquarters of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Lima

I am a Brazilian journalist living in the United States. After traveling the world working with sports, news, and events for over 15 years, I realized that what I really love is the travel part of it all. Living in Lima (Peru) Vlog #2: Plaza San Martin, previously known as Plaza de Armas.
Celebrating 6 years of The Travellers (diogok) channel, we are starting a new vlog series, this time in PERU!
We stayed for 2 months living is this amazing country, studying Spanish and travelling from North to South.
First, we lived for a few weeks in the capital, Lima, and on this video series I will show our Spanish school in Miraflores, the community we lived in Surco, the historic city centre and many other tourist attractions. Prepare to see archaeology sites, museums, churches, parks and even the crazy car traffic!
On this second video in Lima, we continue our walk tour from Plaza San Martin, a nice square right in the city centre, going to Plaza Mayor, where it is located the Government Palace (Palacio del Gobierno) and the Cathedral (La Catedral).
On the next video: The community of Miraflores and its cliff-tops!

Es el principal espacio público de la ciudad, a su alrededor se levantan sobriamente el Palacio de Gobierno del Perú, la Catedral de Lima, la Iglesia del Sagrario, el Palacio Arzobispal de Lima, el Palacio Municipal de Lima y el Club de la Unión. La Municipalidad y la Catedral frente a frente testimonian el sello del trazo hispánico. La Plaza Mayor de Lima es Patrimonio de la Humanidad y Patrimonio Cultural de la Nación, fue refundada el 18 de Enero de 1535.
