Kayaking in Pocomoke State Park
Kayaking on Corkers Creek in the Pocomoke State Park, near Snow Hill, MD. The Pocomoke River takes its name from an Algonquian term that locals believed to mean black water for the dark colored water from tannic acid. Regardless of the etymology, the area is beautiful with Bald Cypress trees and Spanish Moss everywhere. Beyond that, as you see in the video, there are lots of turtles and water snakes, too. The Pocomoke River itself is actually tidal this far inland which makes for interesting currents that flow inland even when the river is relatively narrow.

Pocomoke City, dubbed the friendliest town on the Eastern Shore, is a city in Worcester County, Maryland, United States. Although renamed in a burst of civic enthusiasm in 1878, the city is regularly referred to by its inhabitants simply as Pocomoke /ˈpoʊkoʊmoʊk/. The population was 4,184 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Salisbury, Maryland-Delaware Metropolitan Statistical Area. Pocomoke City is a center for commerce on the lower shore, home to an industrial park currently playing host to defense contractors, aerospace engineering, and plastics fabrication. Pocomoke City is located near the Wallops Island Flight Facility in Wallops Island, Virginia.

The Pocomoke River is the deepest water for its width in the United States and the second deepest in the world - 2nd only to the Nile River. Its name means black water and just four to six feet below the surface there is no ambient light. The water is black.
