Poznan, Poland
Poznan, Poland
Poznan was one of those lucky finds that happen when I decide to check out some place that I know little about. I was in Berlin on vacation with plans for an overnight trip to Pila, Poland, where some of my ancestors were from. For the train ride back to Berlin, I'd travel from Pila to Poznan and then change trains for the trip back to Berlin. For no other reason than because I had never been to Poznan before, I scheduled a 4-hour window between trains to take a look around.
Poznan is where the Polish nation got its start. Its Archcathedral Basilica of St. Peter & Paul dates back to the 900s and is where early Polish rulers are buried. The old market square is lined with colorful buildings and features Poznan's impressive city hall. Monuments give tribute to Polish-born Pope John Paul II and remember the victims of Communist oppression. I got a taste of all of this in my exploration of the city.
It was a quick visit, but one that left me wishing that I had more time to explore Poznan.

In the past, the sea has changed into land, but the waters that have not escaped due to the flat terrain have created salt fields all over Poland. The Vialicica salt mine is also a typical example. As I walk in, a long aisle comes out and the guide speaks. The depth of this place is 327m below the 9th floor, and today we will go up to 135m underground 3 stories. Therefore, I will ask for the end of sightseeing alone. It is salt mine reaching 327m under the ground, 300km in length, and going down through several passages, the floor, wall, And a little further, I meet a legend about this mine. The main character is Princess King, who married from Hungary to Poland. When the princess threw the ring and searched it, it was said that the salt lava was found. But who created these sculptures? The miners who worked here carved salt rocks and left many places in the mines. And a little further down, we meet King's chapel, the biggest masterpiece of salt miners. Miners hammered everything in this deep underground, one by one, for decades, and even made this chapel. It was a heavenly chapel that brought art and religion out of exhausted labor. Somewhere I hear music. It is a piece of farewell composed by Chopin. The melody spreads through the calm lake and echoes through the cave.

Gdy wchodzę, wychodzi długi korytarz i przewodniczka mówi. Kiedy księżniczka rzuciła pierścień i przeszukała go, powiedziano, że znaleziono lawę solną. Ale kto stworzył te rzeźby? Górnicy, którzy tu pracowali, rzeźbili solne skały i pozostawili wiele miejsc w kopalniach. I nieco dalej spotykamy kaplicę królewską, największe arcydzieło górników solnych. To pożegnalne utwory Chopina.

Poznan Old Town Square, Poland.
The old town square (Stary Rynek) was the centre of old Poznan, and to this day is rich in historic architecture, museums and restaurants. Around 60 per cent of the old town was flattened during WW11, through most of the houses were meticulously rebuilt in the 1950's following Baroque and Renaissance styles. Aside from the two concrete carbuncles planted needlessly in the middle, the town square remains one of the most picturesque in Central Europe. Behind the town hall lies the City Scales building that once housed the hardware for weighing merchandise on its way to the market.
In the 1970's many fashionable bars, cafes and restaurants were opened. After 1990 the square saw the arrival of offices of several banks and even more eateries.
Between 1880 and 1955 there used to be trams running across the square. Traffic of all vehicles was gradually reduced and eventually in 1970 the square became closed to any traffic, with the exception of special permit holders.
In the second half of the 19th century the square was equipped with water and gas installations and illuminated by gas lighting. Early in the next century an underground electrical network was constructed. In the late 19th century the surface of the square was replaced. The present paving is a result of a general renovation carried out in the late 1960's.
Every June the square is home to a lively street fair (Jarmark Swietojanski), and throughout the summer it features many cultural events including some performances of Malta Theatre Festival.
In the summer months many bars set up beer gardens in the square, where you can drink as much coffee or beer as you want and make yourself familiar with Polish cuisine! There is never ending party on the square!
Wieliczka Salt Mine - Poland Best Place - Travel & Discover
The Wieliczka salt mine reaches a depth of 327 meters and is over 287 kilometres long. The rock salt is naturally grey in various shades, resembling unpolished granite rather than the white or crystalline look that many visitors may expect. In the 13th century, rock salt was discovered in Wieliczka and the first shafts were dug.

If the center of Poland is Warsaw, Warsaw's center is Zakovy. Since the 16th century, Sigmund III moved the palace to this place, the square has been in a hurry with the Polish people. The centennial of independence that people have welcomed is also 100 years of freedom here in the plaza. Everyone is free in Warsaw. The streets where children are excited, the scenic and antique scenery, but all of this is, in fact, something that has come to Hyundai. The Germans divided Warsaw into four zones and completely ruined the entire city. On August 1, 1944, the Warsaw war against the German army was a retaliation against the Warsaw Uprising, which fought for 63 days and killed tens of thousands. At the end of World War II, the Polish people uprised in their own efforts to drive the Germans. But the results were terrible. The insurrection failed and the city became completely ashes. But people did not give up the city. He collected the remaining stones in the ruins and used old paintings to completely revive Warsaw to a brick. Warsaw is not a relic of the past, as is the case in Europe, but a city of resistance and resurrection that people have made today.
