Edi Muka of TICA (Albania) on being a PCF Network Partner
Network Partner Edi Muka of Tirana Institute of Contemporary Art (Albania) discusses the Prince Claus Fund Network Partnership. The Tirana Institute of Contemporary Art (TICA) is an independent organisation dedicated to the development of excellence in contemporary art and cultural forms in Albania. More on TICA & the PCF network partners:
What is a Network Partner?
The network partners are engaged in a six year partnership with the Prince Claus Fund. Coming from diverse disciplines and regions, they advise the Fund on its selection of projects and act as the eyes and ears of the Fund their respective regions around the world. Twice a year, the Fund's ten network partners meet to discuss local and regional developments.Through the committee meetings, network partners can learn from each other's experiences and be inspired to initiate new collaborations.
The 2014 summer meeting in Kathmandu, Nepal was hosted by the network partner Southasia Trust, whose work centres on promoting cultural exchange in a region starkly divided by geopolitics and inter-community estrangement. The meeting was accompanied by the conference 'Reclaiming the Creative Commons: The Southasian Surge Towards Pluralism, Freedom and Democracy'. More info on the meeting & conference:
Zapto Universitetin 1/2
Students in Tirana recently organized a sit-in at the entrance of the Polytechnic University, blocking the main doors and chanting “We are students, not customers.” This action is part of an ongoing protest against education reform initiated by the Albanian government, which has raised tuition fees in public universities.
At the main entrance of the Polytechnic University in Tirana there appeared to be a commotion. Blocking the entrance for everyone, hundreds of students wanted their voices to be heard, exercising the right they felt they have over their own university. Police arrived alert as ever but did not intervene; instead they made allegations about the protest being against the law.
Though how is it reasonable to name students as outlaws in public university facilities? Students are the university.
