Best Beach in Maine? | Popham Beach Maine
In my opinion, Popham Beach is one of the best coastal beaches of Maine. It's a state park and it isn't commercialized. It's absolutely gorgeous and you can experience the riptide from where the river meets the ocean.

Penobscot Narrows Bridge & Popham Beach | Maine USA
On our drive between Bar Harbor and Portland, Maine we stopped to explore the Penobscot Narrows Bridge and spend some time at Popham Beach.
The Penobscot Narrows Bridge is a 2,120 feet (646 m) long cable-stayed bridge that goes over the Penobscot River. The Penobscot Bridge site also is home to the Penobscot Narrows Observatory, the first bridge observation tower in the United States and the tallest public bridge observatory in the world.
The tower reaches 420 feet (128 m) into the air and allows visitors to view the bridge, the nearby Fort Knox State Historic Site, the Penobscot River, and Bay.
Bordering the south side of the mouth of the Kennebec River, Popham Beach State Park is truly one of Maine’s rare geologic landforms that features a long stretch of sand beach. Sunbathers relaxing on Popham’s sands can see Fox and Wood islands offshore, and the Kennebec and Morse rivers border each end of the beach.

Former Maine State Route 217
A virtual clinch (driving the whole length) of the former Maine state route 217. We start on ME 209 southbound then merge onto former ME 217 going westbound. After clinching ME 217 westbound, we end up at Sebasco Harbor Resort where we turn around and clinch former ME 217 eastbound and end up at ME 209.
Anyway, Maine state route 217 was a very short route connecting Maine state route 209 to Sebasco Harbor Resort in Phippsburg. It was only 1.22 miles long. It was an east-west highway where its west end was at Sebasco Harbor Resort and the east end at ME 209. It was created in 1928 and as of between January and March of 2007, all signage for the short route were removed. The reason it was decomissioned, was because since it was very short and wasn't major, MDOT didn't want to waste money to maintain it, therefore it was reduced to town maintenance. Now, since it was decomissioned, signs at the junction of ME 209 have signs that read FORMERLY ROUTE 217 to not get drivers confused or lost, since the route still appears on many maps.
