Nankinmachi Kobe Chinatown - A 4K Walkthrough ???? 南京町 神戸 ???? Japan As It Truly Is
Nankinmachi or the Kobe Chinatown is one of Japan's biggest. Discover a whole new side to Japan you've never seen before.
Nankinmachi (南京町), like its counterparts in Yokohama and Nagasaki, specialize in restaurants, but you will also find some gift shops and grocery markets. And as in Yokohama you'll often find a restaurant owner holding a menu in front of their place calling to you and inviting you to eat there.
Nankinmachi was first established in 1868 as Japan opened its ports to the world. It's had its share of misfortune as it was flattened during the war with bombs, as well as taking a severe hit in the 1995 Kobe earthquake. Today, it thrives with over a hundred businesses and is a great spot for Kobe sightseeing.

#harborland in #Kobe is one of the most famous ports in #Japan. 150 years ago it was a gateway to the outside world, but these days it is a great place to relax, eat and shop for locals and tourists alike. Home to the Mosaic ferris wheel, the waterfront and #KobePortTower it is a great way to spend a day in Kobe. There is even the AnPanMan museum for those of you who are travelling with children.

???? About Me ????
My name is Dan and I live in Japan. Smash the two words together and you end up with JaDan. I started the JaDan - Dan in Japan channel when I moved to Japan in 2016. I am a 30 something Yorkshire lad who was born and raised in Sheffield, which is deep in the heart of the UK. I moved to Japan in April 2016 to pursue a new career teaching English in a far off land. I am what some people would consider a nerd as I have a love for gaming, comic books and technology but I also love photography, sightseeing, meeting new people, experiencing new cultures and punk music.

Walking tour of Kobe, Japan - Nankinmachi (Chinatown) to Meriken Park - Travel Guide ???? 【4K】
Kobe is the sixth-largest city in Japan and the capital city of Hyōgo Prefecture. It is located on the southern side of the main island of Honshū, on the north shore of Osaka Bay and about 30 km (19 mi) west of Osaka.
In this video, I walked through Kobe's Chinatown known as Nankinmachi. Adjacent to it is the Motomachi Shopping Street, a mile long covered shopping street. About 1 km walk, I reached the Meriken Park, a waterfront park located in Kobe port area. Here you can find the famous Kobe Port Tower and the Kobe Maritime Museum.

When you first arrive at Sannomiya Station, you’ll be greeted by department stores like SOGO and OIOI where you can get many luxury fashion items. But if you’re into more the local shopping scene then it’s a must to venture into the shopping streets, also known as shotengai.

Kobe, Japan - Maiko Station (2019)
Maiko Station (舞子駅 Maiko-eki) is a railway station in Tarumi-ku, Kobe, Hyōgo Prefecture, Japan.
Kobe (神戸市 Kōbe-shi, Japanese: [koːꜜbe]) is the sixth-largest city in Japan and the capital city of Hyōgo Prefecture. It is located on the southern side of the main island of Honshū, on the north shore of Osaka Bay and about 30 km (19 mi) west of Osaka. With a population around 1.5 million, the city is part of the Keihanshin metropolitan area along with Osaka and Kyoto.
The earliest written records regarding the region come from the Nihon Shoki, which describes the founding of the Ikuta Shrine by Empress Jingū in AD 201. For most of its history, the area was never a single political entity, even during the Tokugawa period, when the port was controlled directly by the Tokugawa shogunate. Kobe did not exist in its current form until its founding in 1889. Its name comes from kanbe (神戸, an archaic title for supporters of the city's Ikuta Shrine). Kobe became one of Japan's designated cities in 1956.
Kobe was one of the cities to open for trade with the West following the 1853 end of the policy of seclusion and has since been known as a cosmopolitan and nuclear-free zone port city. While the 1995 Great Hanshin earthquake diminished much of Kobe's prominence as a port city, it remains Japan's fourth-busiest container port. Companies headquartered in Kobe include ASICS, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and Kobe Steel, as well as over 100 international corporations with Asian or Japanese headquarters in the city, such as Eli Lilly and Company, Procter & Gamble, Boehringer Ingelheim, and Nestlé. The city is the point of origin and namesake of Kobe beef, as well as the site of one of Japan's most famous hot spring resorts, Arima Onsen.

ARIMA ONSEN & CHINA TOWN: Kobe, Japan (Day 2 and 3!)
We went to our first Japanese Onsen (hot spring) Town! It's one of the oldest in Japan at over one thousand years old! We were lucky enough to find a tattoo-friendly onsen. Onsen here have two types of water: Gold and Silver. We bathed in the iron-rich Gold Water.
It was such a beautiful town to explore! We also enjoyed a traditional Japnese meal of Okonomiyaki, and headed back to Kobe's city center to explore their China Town (Nankinmachi)! Kobe has a large population of Chinese immigrants which lead to an amazing China Town! It's the 2nd largest one in Japan! We got to eat some local, handmade soup dumplings (in an incredibly embarrassing manner)!
For our last day in Kobe, we explored the Harbour area and tried Kobe Beef for the first time (but you'll have to wait for that video to see it). (^_^)

Exploring Japan - Kobe
First video blog in Japan. I explored the town of KOBE
Where I went::
- Meriken Park
- Sannomiya shrine
- Ikuta shrine
- Mount Rokko
Top tips:
- To visit Mount Rokko, take the 'Hanshin line' from Sannomiya station to 'Mikage station' then take the no.16 bus to 'Rokko cable shita'. From there you can pay to take a return cable car up (which I did) or then grab another bus to go even higher.
- Get an 'Icoca' card from Sannomiya station for any underground or buses. Much easier than using cash.
