Yokohama Portside Park behind Horizon International School & Bay Quarter
Yamashita Park - Yokohama - Japan
The first seaside park in Japan located right in front of Yokohama Port, stretching almost 700 meters from the east side of Osanbashi to Yamashita Pier. It was opened in 1930 by land filling with the rubbles from the Great Kanto Earthquake.
The park includes a grass field, a rose garden, the Little Girl With Red Shoes On statue, the Guardian of Water statue which is a gift from San Diego, a sister city of Yokohama, and the Kamome no Suihei-san (Seagull Sailor) song monument, water stairs and a stage. The former cargo and passenger ship Hikawamaru is anchored here.
Yokohama Japan Travel Guide
A travel guide for visiting the city of Yokohama, in Japan. Yokohama is Japan's largest city with 3.7M people. Just a short 30-minute train ride from Tokyo, Yokohama is an easy day trip. Highlights include: Minato Mirai, China Town, Yamashita Park, and the Sea Bass. SUSBCRIBE:
In this video I cover the major highlights of Yokohama that you can visit in a day-trip to Yokohama. After arriving at Yokohama station, I stop at the Tourist Information booth at the JR Yokohama Station to pick-up english maps. Then I head out the west exit to the Yokohama Station shopping district. On the West side of Yokohama station there are a great selection of stores including Yodobashi Camera, Japan's largest Electronics Store, Tokyu Hands Creative Life Store (my favorite store in Japan for cool gadgets), and Takashimaya department store.
I then head out to the Yokohama Station East exit to take a ride on the Sea Bass. The Sea Bass is a pedestrian ferry of sorts that goes between Yokohama Station, and Yamashita Park, with intermediate stops at Minato Mirai and the Red Brick Buildings. The Sea Bass has a direct route to Yamashita park that takes about 20 minutes, or an indirect route that makes those two intermediate stops which takes about 35 minutes.
Yamashita Park is a neat waterfront park with a nice wide pedestrian sidewalk along the harbor. Yamashita Park often hosts special events on weekends. The weekend that I visited Yamashita Park it was hosting an international food festival.
Chinatown is about a 5 minute walk from Yamashita Park... Check out my other video linked below for more info on Yokohama Chinatown.
Then I took the subway from Chinatown to the Minato Mirai district. The Minato Mirai district is Yokohama's newest district with some futuristic looking highrises including the Landmark Tower, Japan's tallest office building. The Landmark tower is also home to Japan's fastest elevators. Minato Mirai is best visited at night to see the colorful light displays on the Ferris wheel.
Yokohama is also home to a couple of note-worthy museums that I didn't visit in this video but at worth a mention. 1: Cup Noodle Museum (where you can make your own cup noodle). 2: Ramen Museum (more of a food-court with a whole bunch of ramen shops)

Hey Cruisers,
It's day 1 of our Diamond Princess Asia Cruise series. This is the first day of our 12 night cruise, and we'll cover 2800 nautical miles as we visit Tokyo, Shimizu, Osaka, Taipei (Keelung), Hong Kong, Nha Trang & Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) Vietnam, and Singapore.
We start off this cruise vlog first thing in the morning with a lovely breakfast, courtesy of the Hotel Monterey Yokohama. The hotel worked out great (WiFI and breakfast were included!), and breakfast was the the perfect way to start the day. You'll want to watch breakfast for a look at a Japanese special, Natto. Besides breakfast, another great thing about the hotel is the terrific view of the adjacent Yamashita park and the Osanbashi cruise port. And speaking of the park, the boys checked it out with a nice morning walk while I got ready for the big day. After the walk, it was time to head out to the port. We decided to walk, and you'll get a good idea of exactly how walkable the port is it is from the Hotel Monterey Yokohama in this video. Port check-in was terrifically easy. It's a super nice port, and we were very comfortable there. After we board the Diamond Princess, we'll give you a look around our room, Izumi Japanese Bath, the spa, the gym, Kai Sushi, and a bit of the kid's club. You won't want to miss the sweet send off party from the Yokohama cruise port, and the lively sail away hosted by the bubbly cruise director Lynn Van Vorce. Thanks for joining us for this day 1 cruise vlog as we travel to Japan for our Diamond Princess Asia Cruise. We've got much more Asia cruise adventures ahead. We'll have some Asia cruise tips, more cruise vlogs from Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore.

What to do in Yokohama? A day trip from Tokyo
During our trip to Japan, we visited Yokohama City for a day trip. It took us about 45 minutes to get there by train from Tokyo and we sent the whole day exploring Yokohama.
We visited two main sites, which were the Cup Noodles Museum and the Landmark Tower. The Landmark Tower is the tallest building in Yokohama and gave us some amazing views of the city and Mt. Fuji. We recommending going on a clear day to see everything!
For the second part of the day trip, we went to the Cup Noodles Museum and made our own cup noodles! This was a lot of fun and if you visit Yokohama, you should visit the museum.
We also had lunch and dinner and explored other parts of the city. We did this has a day trip from Tokyo, but we could have spent a weekend going to more places and seeing more things.

Yokohama - A City and its Sea (with subtitles)
For information on Japanese culture, customs, lifestyles, and much more, visit Web Japan (
Yokohama became a great port city as Japan’s gateway to the world. It’s a fine place to visit, with attractions ranging from lovely parks overlooking the bay and streets of old 19th century western style mansions to one of Asia’s largest Chinatowns. The city still plays a major role on the international stage, as host to conventions from around the globe. Recently, Yokohama has become an environmental leader too. A waterfront aquarium holds programs to teach city children about marine environmental issues, and, enjoying water activities, residents started movements to clean up the port’s main river.
