Porto Santo is the smallest inhabited island of the archipelago, with an area of 42 km2, only 11 kilometers long and only 6 kilometers wide. A great choice for the 72nd hole of Golf & Ride Portugal 2014. Certainly one of the most spectacular locations of the whole challenge. The Porto Santo course designed by Seve spans the island with the front nine holes looking over the South coast and the back nine revealing incredible views of the North side of the island.
Former national team member and the home professional Andrew Oliveira and I, played the magnificent 175 metres long par three 13th hole. The shot across the cliff tops is challenging especially when played into the wind. This hole starts a run of four which delight the eye and challenge every player to overcome any doubt that they may have in their game.
Porto Santo Golfe boasts a beautiful clubhouse, impressive practice facilities and a wonderful terrace. From this sanctuary it is possible to see players as they make their way home, absorb wonderful views over the South East coast and take some well earned refreshment. Porto Santo enjoys nine kilometres of sandy beach and a slow pace of life. It is certainly one of the best places I have ever come across to get away from it all.
