Portsmouth African Burying Ground Portsmouth Black Heritage Trail
Site of Negro Burying Ground - In colonial Portsmouth, segregation applied in death as in life. City officials approved a plan in 1705 that set aside this city block for a Negro Burying Ground. It was close to town, but pushed to what was then its outer edge. By 1813, houses were built over the site. In October of 2003 city construction workers accidently revealed thirteen wood coffins under one very small area of Chestnut Street, suggesting high density use of space centuries ago. Those burials, along with human remains found scattered in another section of that street, are among a yet-unknown number interred in a larger area including the city's Portsmouth African Burying Ground Memorial Park.

Black Men as Ritual Sacrifice for the Creation of White Identity
This talk explores intra-racial violence and competition as the origin and purpose behind the creation of what we call white and how this designation is maintained through ritual violence and the ritual use of a sacrificial class of underprivileged people to diffuse that competition. The presenter, Rev. Ian White Maher, is an ordained Unitarian Universalist Minister.
Old Lloydtown Pioneer Cemetery.
Located off of Rebel Trail and Rebellion Way in Lloydtown. This cemetery was established in 1834 when the family servant to Jesse Lloyd passed away. The early burials were that of the Quakers or Society of Friends who settled this area in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Jesse Lloyd would be denied the right to be buried with his family in this cemetery as he fled to America after the failed Rebellion of 1837, he would die there in 1838.
The burials further to the back of the property are the Wesleyan Methodist burials which would have been around the mid 1840's into the late 1800's. The last burial took place in 1944 and after that the cemetery fell in to disarray. The property is now maintained by King Twp and is considered a Heritage Site.

Piscataquog Trail (Manchester, NH) Pedestrian Bridge Construction
This video depicts the installation of a 160’ long single-span steel truss pedestrian bridge along the Piscataquog River Trail. This project segment connects Manchester’s 2.4 miles with Goffstown’s 5.5 miles of recreational trails, creating a safe pedestrian and bicycle access along the river. With this integral connection, both Manchester and Goffstown will increase their communities’ walkability.

These photos are from a visit to my origins in October, 2013 with my partner. They include my schools (St. Patrick's elementary, NHS JR/SR High, the church I grew up in, St. Patrick's, the 3 houses I lived in, my grandmother's house, and our mill town of duplexes and quads. Nat Turner's Bible: History, Heritage and Healing. A Family Story
Presented by Norfolk Public Library in Norfolk, VA. A fascinating lecture by Mark Person and Wendy Creekmore Porter. Nat Turner's Bible came from England in the 1700's and was given to Nat Turner as a child. The Person family was presented with the Bible in 1912 and the tiny bible was donated to the African American Museum of History and Culture in 2010 when Ms Wendy Creekmore Porter contacted Smithsonian officials. The Bible was with Nat Turner when he was captured in 1831 by Benjamin Phipps and kept in safe keeping by the courthouse. It is now a centerpiece of the new African American Museum of History and Culture. Over 1.3 million visitors have passed thru the new museum since the opening in September, 2016. This lecture is about Nat Turner's Bible: History,Heritage, and Healing: A Family Story. The focus is on history and reconciliation - doing the right thing in donating the Bible and not trying to profit from such a national and international treasure.
