Portsmouth, Oh Floodwall Murals

The floodwall in Portsmouth, Ohio, has been painted with dozens of scenic and artistic murals spanning hundreds of feet through downtown. I didn't cover the entire length in this video; only a few of the first murals on the eastern-most side of the wall, closest to downtown.

The murals depict various stages & events throughout the history of Portsmouth & Scioto County, and were painted throughout the 90's.

One of many murals painted on the floodwall at Portsmouth, Ohio. This particular one is located right at the Court St. floodwall opening. The opening in the floodwall allows vehicles and pedestrians access to the river front.

There are many other murals painted on the north face of the floodwall, all of them depicting various scenes of historical significance to Portsmouth and Scioto County.

Inscriptions at Raven Rock, Portsmouth, Ohio

Recorded Feb 28, 2007 @ 3pm. This little-known vantage point is high above the Ohio River valley just west of Portsmouth, Ohio. Route 52 is immediately below the hillside from which the video was taken. The uphill climb to the vantage point is long, difficult, arduous and not for the weak! Check out my other video showing the actual unoscured view of the valley from the same site!

1191st Eng. Co. erects floodgates in Portsmouth

This Presidents Day, nearly 40 engineers from the 1191st Engineer Company erected two floodgates in Portsmouth, Ohio, the unit's home station. The gates are a precaution to defend against the rising Ohio River, cresting five feet above flood stage and with more rain in the forecast. Video by 1st Lt. Aaron Smith.
