Porto – Portugal – City tour
Portugal is in the west of the Iberian Peninsula. Porto is in the north of Portugal, on the estuary of the river Douro. Earlier Porto was the industrial city of Portugal. In Lisbon Portugal was ruled, in Coimbra was studied and in Porto was worked.
In recent years, Porto has turned into a wonderful tourist destination. With its picturesque old town, the promenade along the banks of the Douro under the impressive Ponte Luís I, the long promenade along the Douro estuary and the endless beach promenade along the Atlantic coast, Porto is now worth to be visited more than only one day.
The culinary diversity, the history of port wine, many historic buildings and the famous Azulejos framed by the hospitality of the Portuguese, complete the experience.

A day in Porto
???????? Porto. Our last destination during our stay in Portugal. Porto is a very lively city, built around the mouth of the Douro River. It's worth stopping for a few days, from surfing to gastronomy, everyone will find something to do ! Of course, the city is also known for its production of Porto wine, which you can enjoy accompanied by delicious chocolates (see full video). If we had to keep only one place to eat, it would be the Asian restaurant Boa-Bao, at the end of the video. The excellent food, the exceptional atmosphere, the quality of the service make it a must in Porto ! Be careful, you have to book in advance or come in the early evening, which we did. A true delight !
.
???????? Porto.

The Gastronomy & Wines of Porto and the North of Portugal
Land of sea, plains and mountains, Porto and the North of Portugal's gastronomy is as diverse as the landscape where its ingredients are produced and tasted. Known for its hospitality, the region is generous when it is time to provide a good table service. And it has a wide variety of dishes (of fish, sea food, meat or regional and convent-made confectionery), cooked with local ingredients. With four demarcated wine regions, the region also supplies a wine for each occasion. In the many wines of excellent quality that are produced here, there is one that is known all around the world -- the Port Wine, produced in the world's oldest demarcated region -- but there are others waiting to be tasted, such as the reds and whites of Douro and the greens of the Minho Region.

Welcome to BRAGA. A Charming City in Northern Portugal.
Happy Holidays from Braga, Portugal! We are visiting this beautiful city located in the north of Portugal. Braga has plenty to offer, amazing views, incredible food, history, and more. Join us, and let’s explore this city.
Braga is a city in the Cávado Valley of Northern Portugal. It is the fifth largest city in Portugal after Lisbon, Porto, Amadora and Vila Nova de Gaia. It is an ancient and modern city and one of the most important Archdiocese.
Braga has a university is called the Universidade do Minho, and it is around 30 years old. It has a medium size campus area with lots of bars and cheap restaurants around it.

Portugal’s third-largest city is an elegant town laced with ancient narrow lanes closed to vehicles, strewn with plazas and a splendid array of baroque churches. Braga is a lively city, one of the oldest in the country, and is teeming with young people who study at its universities. The constant chiming of bells is a reminder of Braga’s age-old devotion to the spiritual world. Its religious festivals – particularly the elaborately staged Semana Santa (Holy Week) – are famous throughout Portugal. But don’t come expecting piety alone: Braga’s upscale old centre is packed with lively cafes and trim boutiques, some excellent restaurants and low-key bars catering to students from the Universidade do Minho. In fact, it's such a young city that in 2012 it was pronounced the European Youth Capital.
It’s known for its religious heritage and events. To the east, Bom Jesus do Monte complex has a neoclassical church atop an elaborate 17-flight stairway. In the city center, medieval Braga Cathedral is home to a sacred art museum and the Gothic-style Kings' Chapel. Nearby, the imposing Archbishop’s Palace overlooks Santa Barbara Garden.
Places featured:
The Igreja de Bom Jesus (Church of the Good Jesus):
This church is one of the most remarkable examples of 18th (and early 19th) Century religious architecture anywhere-- if it weren't in little-visited northern Portugal, it would be far more famous. The church at the top of the mountain outside the city of Braga, completed in 1822 by Portuguese architect Carlos Amarante, replacing an earlier (15th Century) shrine at the same site. The fascination of Bom Jesus lies not in the church, but rather in the Escadaria (stairway) leading up the mountain-side. The Escadaria was originally devised by the Archbishop of Braga in 1722 to allow pilgrims to reach the earlier shrine; in its completed form (also by Almarante), it is one of the best examples of Baroque religious architecture in Iberia.
Santa Barbara Garden:
The Santa Barbara Garden is a must-see attraction for any visitor to Portugal’s historic city of Braga. Located within easy reach of the main square, the cathedral, and other Braga attractions, one can easily find it next to the former palace of the Archbishop. Built in a fortress-like style, the palace began being erected in the 14th century, undergoing several extensions and renovations subsequently, most notably in the 17th century.
The Cathedral of Braga:
The Cathedral of Braga is one of the city’s cultural highlights and a must-visit destination on your trip to Braga, Portugal. The Cathedral of Braga dates back to the 11th Century and it is now the oldest-surviving church in Portugal, fully befitting of the country’s third-largest and oldest city. The cathedral was commissioned by Count Henry of Burgundy and was built on the site of an old Romanesque building, a former Moorish mosque.

PORTO TRAVEL GUIDE (4K)
Porto is a fascinating and vibrant city that is rapidly becoming one of Western Europe’s most respected tourist destinations. The city boasts an extensive history, interesting tourist attractions, and a buzzing nightlife, and outstanding tourist facilities. There is a lot to see and do in Porto, and this diverse city will appeal to a wide range of visitors.
Porto is a historic and varied city, from the warren of narrow streets that make up the ancient Ribeira district through to the grand plaza of the Trindade district. The region is famed for the production of Port, which is still stored and matured in the vast cellars that stretch along the banks of the Douro River.
This guide will provide an introduction to Porto, by answering some of the common holiday planning questions and offering links to further detailed tourist information.
At a minimum, it takes two full days of sightseeing to discover Porto. The first day would explore the historic centre (Se district), the Baixa district and Ribeira district, and could include a short boat cruise along the Douro River. The second day would visit Vila Nova de Gaia (on the southern banks of the Douro river) and the Foz district, and could include a tour of the Port cellars and Port tasting.
The evening could be spent in the lively restaurants of the Ribeira district, or for a more party-focused night, head to the bars and clubs close to the university and the Rua Galeria de Paris (affectionally, known as bar street!).
Note: One day is not enough time to visit Porto, and we always recommended at least two days.
In general, Porto and northern Portugal tend to be cooler and wetter than the rest of the country. The peak season is from June to the end of August, and this season offers hot and dry weather, which is suitable for spending time on the beaches.
The tourist season of Porto begins in May and continues until the end of October, and the weather in the spring/autumn is ideal for sightseeing and day trips. In the winter there is a very high possibility of rain, but as Porto is a major city, all restaurants, bars and hotels remain open.
Porto is a popular backpacking and budget holiday destination, as there are many excellent hostels, inexpensive restaurants and lots of similarly minded worldly travellers. The nightlife of the city is lively and liberal, and the city always has a bustling atmosphere. There is always a good backpacking community and attracts a wide range of nationalities.
