All Saints' Day by Night at Powązki Cemetery, Warsaw
we took a walk through warsaw's powązki cemetery last night, 1 november 2009, and, i must say, it was quite a sight... it was ablaze with candles and packed with people... some of the graves of the famous were literally aflame... i've never seen anything quite like it... here's a description of this unusual all saint's day celebration...
Poles celebrate the All Saints' Day in unusually solemn way. The cemeteries and graveyards are decorated with candles, flowers and wreaths through the day and they shine through the night.
Grave of Julian Marchlewski, polish activist of Communism, Powązki Military Cemetery, Warsaw
Karski , Kujawski , Baltazar from Kujawy , JK , Johannes Kaempfer (born on May 17, 1866 in Włocławek , died on March 22, 1925 in Bogliasco ) - activist of the Polish and international revolutionary workers and communist movement , co-founder of the Polish Workers' Union and Social Democracy of the Kingdom of Poland and Lithuania , activist of the left wing of SPD , one of the leaders of the Spartacist Union, co-founder of the Comintern (Communist International) , chairman of the Provisional Revolutionary Committee of Poland . Editor of the socialist press , publicist and publisher .
For Marchlewski, the optimal solution to the national question in the territories inhabited by the Polish population was its own statehood maintained long after the establishment of the socialist system. This view differed from the typical views of the then communist activists [2] . In 1919 he was a co-founder of the Comintern (Communist International) , 1920 posed by Lenin at the head of the Polish Revolutionary Revolutionary Committee in Bialystok [3] . From 1922, he was the first rector of the Communist University of the National Minorities of the West in Moscow, chairman of the International Organization of Aid to Revolutionaries (MOPR) . He prepared the programRKP (b) in the field of agriculture . From the second half of 1923, the increasing kidney disease increasingly excluded him from active life. In 1924 he was treated in the Crimea . In December he left for Italy , where he died after four months of a holiday.
In 1950, the urn with his ashes was placed in the tomb at Powązki Military in Warsaw .

Warsaw Insurgents Cemetery - All Saints' Day Poland ????
I went to the Warsaw Insurgents Cemetery (Cmentarz Powstańców Warszawy) during All Saints' Day Poland. This cemetery is located in Wola district, and thousands of Poles come every year from different parts of the country. At the cemetery, there is a monument to remember those who lost their lives during the Warsaw Uprising ????????
Jewish Cemetery, Warsaw
The Warsaw Jewish Cemetery is one of the largest Jewish cemeteries in Europe and in the world. Located on Warsaw's Okopowa Street and abutting the Powązki Cemetery at 52°14′51″N 20°58′29″E, the Jewish necropolis was established in 1806 and occupies 33 hectares (83 acres) of land. The cemetery contains over 250,000 marked graves[1], as well as mass graves of victims of the Warsaw Ghetto. Many of these graves and crypts are overgrown, having been abandoned after the German invasion of Poland and subsequent Holocaust. Although the cemetery was closed down during World War II, after the war it was reopened and a small portion of it remains active, serving Warsaw's small existing Jewish population.
All Saint's Day Cementery Rakowicki [Wszystkich Swietych] ALL HALLOWS DAY!
Rakowicki Cementery - Cmentarz Rakowicki is a cemetery in Poland, located in the centre of Cracow - Kraków. Founded at the beginning of the 19th century when the region was part of Austria-Hungary, the cemetery was expanded several times, and at present covers an area of about 42 hectares. Many notable Cracovians, among them the parents of Pope John Paul II, are buried here. The Rakowicki Cemetery was set up in 1800–1802 at an estate in Prądnik Czerwony village. The cemetery is a national monument of great historical and artistic value. Its selected gravestones and mausoleums are the work of well-known architects, among them, Teofil Żebrawski, Feliks Księżarski, Sławomir Odrzywolski, Jakub Szczepkowski, as well as sculptors such as Konstanty Laszczka, Tadeusz Błotnicki, Wacław Szymanowski, Karol Hukana and others.
Not only is the Rakowice necropolis a testimony to Polish history of the previous 200 years, which makes it a place of a great historical value, but also an example of a historic garden cemetery with valuable stand and outstanding examples of small architecture, sculpture and craftsmanship.
The route around the cemetery presented here encompasses 22 sites in the old cemetery and 8 in the war necropolis. The whole route takes two hours.

The ashes of the last communist leader of Poland and one of the last surviving leaders of a Soviet bloc state, General Wojciech Jaruzelski, were buried at Warsaw's Powazki Military Cemetery, Friday. A procession was held before the leader was given full military honours. Present at the funeral was former Polish President and Solidarity leader Lech Walesa, alongside former President Aleksander Kwasiniewski and current President Bronislaw Komorowski
Protesters gathered, expressing their displeasure that the general was buried with military honours, chanting disgrace on the sidelines of the funeral.
Jaruzelski died, aged 90, at a military hospital on May 25 after suffering a stroke.

KRAKOW, EXPLORING the historic JEWISH CEMETERY ✡️, POLAND
SUBSCRIBE: - Let's go for a walking tour of this very historic and very spectacular Jewish cemetery located in the beautiful city of Krakow in Poland. Filmed on a Sunday (it was quiet) and very foggy morning and that made it even more spectacular.
Kraków, a southern Poland city near the border of the Czech Republic, is known for its well-preserved medieval core and Jewish quarter. Its old town – ringed by Planty Park and remnants of the city’s medieval walls – is centered on the stately, expansive Rynek Glówny (market square). This plaza is the site of the Cloth Hall, a Renaissance-era trading outpost, and St. Mary’s Basilica, a 14th-century Gothic church.
Poland is the sixth most populous member state of the European Union.[8] Poland's capital and largest metropolis is Warsaw. Other major cities include Kraków, Łódź, Wrocław, Poznań, Gdańsk, and Szczecin. Poland is bordered by the Baltic Sea, Lithuania, and Russia's Kaliningrad Oblast to the north, Belarus and Ukraine to the east, Slovakia and the Czech Republic to the south, and Germany to the west.

All Saints’ Day (Wszystkich Swietych) in Warsaw
Today is All Saints’ Day (Wszystkich Swietych) which is an annual national holiday held on 1st November in Poland to commemorate those no longer with the family. It is more commonly known as the Day of the Dead - people remember family members, friends and famous people who passed away on this day.
Thousands of Poles travel to their families to celebrate this day together. They visit with their whole families to cementeries, visiting all the family graves and lay candles, wreths and flowers on them.
The candles that are placed on the graves are made in a way that they burn for many hours. It is believed that candles help the gone souls to find their way in the darkness after death so you should always put at least one candle for each person in the grave. The flowers mostly associated with Day of the Dead in Poland is chrysanthemum which is grown in a way it is unnaturally huge with many, many petals.
Even the most abandoned and destroyed graves are lightened with candles on this day – people when visiting cementery buy more candles than they need just to place some on forgotten and empty graves.
It is also common for most of the people participate in church services which are held throughout the city today.
