Saskatoon, I Love You.
One of the first reactions people have when I say that I’m Fransaskoise (a Francophone from Saskatchewan) is: “Oh!? There are people that speak French in Saskatchewan?”
And I respond, “Yeah, there’s a lot of us!”
Well, there aren’t a ton of us, but there certainly are a lot more than people think!
The second inevitable question is, “Alexis if you make music in French, why do you live in Saskatoon?”
Saskatoon is really awesome. It’s not a big city, only about 300 000 people live here. It’s a pretty and effervescent city - where I was born. It’s the city of bridges. There are a lot of young people - young creatives entrepreneurs that bring their business projects or artistic projects to fruition.
For example, one of my favourite businesses is Village Guitars and Amp. It’s a store that sells vintage guitars but is also a super great music venue.
Another of my favourites is Better Off Duds. My friend Nikki owns it and I just adore it.
There are a lot of great restaurants like The Hallows, a beautiful farmers’ market, and obviously there’s a lot of good coffee (Collective Coffee is super awesome, Museo is too!). Oh! And the micro-breweries! That’s a new thing in Saskatoon. Saskatoon Brewery, Prairie Sun Brewery or Lucky Bastard Distillery... anyways!
In that sense, I see Saskatoon as a fertile ground...sort of...for me!

Marijuana in Canada : Pot Fiction - the fifth estate
Everyone knows that marijuana is illegal. So why does Canada seem to be awash in pot? You can buy it openly in a surprising number of ways and places. The system the federal government set up to give people access to medical marijuana is broken. Could it be that something’s happening out there and no one told Prime Minister Stephen Harper? Mark Kelley exposes some real Pot Fiction.
