Perfect Orange was a ska punk band based out of Powell, TN just north of Knoxville. From 2002-2005 they brought ska bands from all over the US to perform in East Tennessee, were the founders of the legendary Ska Weekend Festival, were voted Best local ska band by the Knoxville News Sentinel, and performed in over 50 cities across the United States.

Ep. 512 Digging into Scruffy City - Tennessee Valley Uncharted
Aerial sets out to discover what “scruffy” really means to the people of Knoxville. She starts by mountain biking with a couple of champion bikers, who teach her the value of facing challenges as well as getting active in the outdoors. Next, she heads to TVA’s Norris Engineering Lab, where a long-forgotten kiln was recently discovered during a demolition project. They have since halted the demo to save the nearly 85-year-old kiln and the ceramics within, which Aerial gets to explore as she heads into the kiln’s crawlspaces. Aerial then refuels with East TN Tours, an organization that allows people to sample a variety of the best and most unique food downtown Knoxville has to offer. She also visits the iconic Tennessee Theatre, where she speaks with the executive director to gain more insight into the theatre’s history and what makes it so special. To wrap up her trip, she joins a group of Girls Scouts on a Haunted Knoxville Ghost Tour and tries her hand at hunting for the paranormal. After a few days among the Vols, Aerial realizes that Knoxville’s “scruffy” label is a testament to the hospitable nature and unexpected adventures that encompass the city.

The father- (Lead Guitar) & son- (Drums) team of the Southern Raiders Band presenting some vintage memory video footage of the group opening live for the Marshall Tucker Band in Knoxville, TN. The Southern Raiders Band (SRB) has been performing and writing original music for over 15 years. SRB performs in the Country/Southern Rock arena and has eight complete albums to show for the efforts. SRB has performed opening acts for some of the biggest names in the industry and has the writing ability and musicianship to perform with both the Country Music stars and the Southern Rock legends. This allows us the ability to produce both rock and country music album releases. The fans have been great in both fields and some enjoy both styles of music and we are fortunate to have original music in both genres. We have three of our latest albums on sell in digital format for Ipod MP3 players etc, available now for anyone who would like to listen to SRB music. The music is now available by the complete album or by the song. This music was recently released at iTunes.com, Spotify.com, Amazon just type in Southern Raiders Band and choose rock from the album, Raise Southern Dixie, or, If You're Gonna Play Country-You Gotta Rock The House, songs for the country fans. We also have a third album out that contains some of our popular ballad tunes titled, Archived Ballads, that you may enjoy as well, this album contains more of a mixed country/rock pop music style, and Wow! The Scruffy City Comedy Festival is returning to Downtown Knoxville on Friday November 13th through Sunday November 15th, 2015
All venues will be within walking distance of Market Square. Nearly 3 dozen comedians will be traveling to Knoxville to perform from all over the United States. In addition to these featured comedians the festival will also have nationally recognized headline performing each night at Scruffy City Hall. Last year the event was solely produced by Super Cat Productions. This year, we have joined forces with Scott and Bernadette West at Scruffy City to make the festival bigger and better than ever!

The Battle of Perryville (also known as the Battle of Chaplin Hills) was fought on October 8, 1862, in the Chaplin Hills west of Perryville, Kentucky, as the culmination of the Confederate Heartland Offensive (Kentucky Campaign) during the American Civil War. Confederate Gen. Braxton Bragg's Army of Mississippi initially won a tactical victory against primarily a single corps of Maj. Gen. Don Carlos Buell's Union Army of the Ohio. The battle is considered a strategic Union victory, sometimes called the Battle for Kentucky, since Bragg withdrew to Tennessee soon thereafter. The Union retained control of the critical border state of Kentucky for the remainder of the war.
On October 7, Buell's army, in pursuit of Bragg, converged on the small crossroads town of Perryville in three columns. Union forces first skirmished with Confederate cavalry on the Springfield Pike before the fighting became more general, on Peters Hill, when the Confederate infantry arrived. Both sides were desperate to get access to fresh water. The next day, at dawn, fighting began again around Peters Hill as a Union division advanced up the pike, halting just before the Confederate line. After noon, a Confederate division struck the Union left flank—the I Corps of Maj. Gen. Alexander M. McCook—and forced it to fall back. When more Confederate divisions joined the fray, the Union line made a stubborn stand, counterattacked, but finally fell back with some units routed.Buell, several miles behind the action, was unaware that a major battle was taking place and did not send any reserves to the front until late in the afternoon. The Union troops on the left flank, reinforced by two brigades, stabilized their line, and the Confederate attack sputtered to a halt. Later, three Confederate regiments assaulted the Union division on the Springfield Pike but were repulsed and fell back into Perryville. Union troops pursued, and skirmishing occurred in the streets until dark. By that time, Union reinforcements were threatening the Confederate left flank. Bragg, short of men and supplies, withdrew during the night, and continued the Confederate retreat by way of Cumberland Gap into East Tennessee.Considering the casualties relative to the engaged strengths of the armies, the Battle of Perryville was one of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War. It was the largest battle fought in the state of Kentucky.

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) is a federally owned corporation in the United States created by congressional charter on May 18, 1933, to provide navigation, flood control, electricity generation, fertilizer manufacturing, and economic development to the Tennessee Valley, a region particularly affected by the Great Depression. The enterprise was a result of the efforts of Senator George W. Norris of Nebraska. TVA was envisioned not only as a provider, but also as a regional economic development agency that would use federal experts and electricity to more quickly modernize the region's economy and society.
TVA's service area covers most of Tennessee, portions of Alabama, Mississippi, and Kentucky, and small slices of Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia. It was the first large regional planning agency of the federal government and remains the largest. Under the leadership of David Lilienthal (Mr. TVA), the TVA became a model for America's efforts to help modernize agrarian societies in the developing world.
