The heart of Eurasia Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan. The heart of Eurasia
As it turns out, foreigners either do not know anything at all about the Republic of Kazakhstan or have only heard a little about it. And it’s a shame, because today Kazakhstan is an actively developing country known to some as»the new leader in the heart of Eurasia». ISJ intends to fix this problem and acquaint our foreign readers with wonderful country.
Geography
The mere fact that Kazakhstan is ranked as the ninth largest country in the world deserves attention. It is located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia. Due to its unique location, almost all types of landscapes can be seen in Kazakhstan’s territory, from majestic mountains to the boundless steppes, from arid deserts to crystal-clear lakes and rivers. Kazakhstan has beautiful forests and meadows teeming with rare plants and animals. Most of them are listed as endangered. That is why, the nature of Kazakhstan has always been an important subject for researchers around the world.
Also, it is impossible not to mention the large mineral reserves: oil, uranium, gold etc. Entrails of the country contain ninety nine elements of the Mendeleev’s periodic table.
Political system
Kazakhstan is a constitutional parliamentary-presidential republic. The president of Kazakhstan is elected by the citizens on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage. Executive power is exercised by the government and the head of the government is the Prime Minister. Legislative power is exercised in Parliament, which consists of two chambers: the Senate and the Majilis.
Language
The official language of the state is Kazakh, one of the Turkic languages. Russian is also used officially along with the Kazakh. Everyone has the right to speak their native language and any ether language that helps people of different nations to live and work in peace and harmony in all aspects of life.
Cities
About 60% of the population lives in cities. The largest of these are Almaty, Astana, Shymkent, Karaganda, Taraz, Ust-Kamenogorsk and Pavlodar.
Astana became the youngest capital city in the world, and is the largest business, diplomatic, commercial and cultural center in Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan: big country, great leader? | VPRO Documentary
Where exactly is Kazakhstan and who is the leader of this big country? How do people live in Kazakhstan and how does the population live around the nuclear test site Semipalatinsk? How does the leader of Kazakhstan, president Nursultan Nazarbayev, lead the country? A documentary about Kazakhstan, his leader and the still visible legacy of the Soviet Union.
In this eight-part travel series, the Dutch journalist and author Jelle Brandt Corstius travels through Russia and visits the neighbor countries Latvia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. What image do the Russians have of their neighbors and vice versa? What are the relations between powerful Russia and the other former Soviet republics? And how do the countries around Russia treat their Russian inhabitants? A series about propaganda and identity.
In the ice-cold steppe, where labor camps used to be, lies Astana, the new capital of Kazakhstan. The city was built out of nowhere using huge oil and gas reserves found in the Caspian Sea in the 1990s. Where you would expect nomads and yurts are futuristic buildings designed by the famous architect Norman Foster. In the Soviet era, Kazakhstan was a kind of backyard, where hundreds of labor camps were created and where millions of Russian prisoners were found.
Since Kazakhstan has become independent one man is in power, Nursultan Nazarbayev. He is probably longer President than anyone else in the world. All elections are manipulated and an opposition does not exist. Putin is a Democrat if you compare him to Nazarbayev. He governs the country as if it were his property. Parks are named after him, statues of him are everywhere and children born on his birthday receive a gift.
Kazakhstan is as big as Western Europe, but only few people know this big country. Most have heard of the nuclear weapons test site Semipalatinsk, where a total of 468 nuclear bombs were detonated. We visit the test site and meet people that live in that area. The local population is still struggling with health problems. It`s the legacy of a Soviet Union, of which some fear it will return.

Korean Culture and Information Service
The Korean Culture and Information Service was launched in 1971 as an arm of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. It serves as a communication bridge to promote Korea overseas, to shed light on international cultural exchanges and to bring that news back to the Korean audience. Toward this end, we report on all of the Korean government's ongoing policies, on all the president's summit meetings and on all types of international cooperation. In addition, we also host art performances, exhibits, music festivals and film festivals. Finally, we also reach out to opinion leaders worldwide, to the international press, academia and to artists from around the globe.
The Korean Culture and Information Service operates 29 cultural centers in 25 countries around the world. There are ten Korean Cultural Centers in the Asia Pacific region, covering Japan, China, Thailand, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Australia, Kazakhstan and Turkey. There are eight centers in Europe, in the U.K., France, Germany, Russia, Spain, Poland, Belgium and Hungary. The Americas have centers in four countries: the U.S., Argentina, Mexico and Brazil. Africa has two, in Nigeria, Egypt. In addition to these, we also work closely with the 13 cultural attachés active at Korean embassies and consulates around the world as they complete their mission as envoys of Korean culture.
