Dubrovnik is an old city on the Adriatic Sea coast in the extreme south of Croatia. It is one of the most prominent tourist resorts of the Mediterranean. The city of Dubrovnik (Latin: Ragusa) was built on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages it became the only city-state in the Adriatic to rival Venice. Supported by its wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development during the 15th and 16th centuries.

Konavoski Dvori National Restaurant offers traditional dishes from all Croatian regions.
Is this the Mediterranean on the mainland or the mainland bathed in the Mediterranean’s ambience? That’s the question posed by every visitor who steps into Konavoski Dvori for the first time.
The congenial manager of the Konavoski Dvori National Restaurant would politely explain that there is truth to both answers, taking pride in the enchantment of his guests as they see the nearby jubilant stream, the Ljuta, the turning of old water mills, and the staff decked out in the traditional folk attire of Konavle, enjoying the fresh air and temperature which is, during the hot summer months, several degrees lower than in nearby Dubrovnik.
The beauty of Konavoski Dvori lures many of its visitors to tour the entire Konavle region in the southernmost part of Croatia, a rather unique small area that boasts of mountain peaks, a ruggedly beautiful coast, fertile land, and a cultural, historical and natural heritage rooted deeply in local traditions passed down from one generation to the next.
The freshness that flows in with the Ljuta’s torrent is accompanied by the aromas of high-class prosciutto, cheese in olive oil, lamb and veal baked under a baking bell (peka/sače), home-made bread, grilled trout, and the other specialties of Konavoski Dvori, a respected restaurant and a favourite outing locale for Dubrovnik natives and visitors to the Dubrovnik Riviera.
Those who try to fathom the secret of the unique beauty of this undeniably special place, an oasis of tranquillity disturbed only by the roaring of the playful stream and the birds singing, will be additionally surprised by the offer of traditional dishes from all regions of Croatia. The menu of Konavoski Dvori may well inspire guests to explore these regions as well. National dishes, due to the complexity involved in their preparation, are ordered beforehand and served at the appointed time.
Following an unforgettable dining experience, guests will find themselves much closer to finding an answer to whether they visited a continental ambience with Mediterranean flavours and aromas, or the Mediterranean adorned by centuries-old forests on the banks of the Ljuta.
The waters of Ljuta keep flowing, but time stands still. The aromas and flavours of the Konavle field enthral its visitors. “We’ll come back,” they think or say out loud, wishing to explore all of Konavle, which even today is a not yet fully explored jewel in Dubrovnik’s back yard, so to speak.
Konavoski Dvori, the first step to take on this journey, and the protected landscape beyond, await them with open arms to savour the traditional hospitality of Konavle and the opulent gourmet specialties that will not be soon forgotten.

My third and final entry into Croatia brings me to the southern most region of the country, Dubrovnik-Neretva county. You can visit Croatia for the first time without seeing the historic city of Duvrovnik. I stayed in a cheap Airbnb for $72 for three nights to continue budget travel in an expensive part of Croatia.
Dubrovnik has much to do as a marvelous historic city. You can enter many churches, take sail tours, kayaking tours, amor simply enjoy a brew on the outside of town and take a dip in the sea. You can get lost in one of its many narrow walkways, to walking the city walls all around the beautiful town. Then in the end, you can either hike up, it take the gondola to the mountain above and take in views of the entire city and beyond next to an old fortress.
Also near Dubrovnik is the town that existed before Dubrovnik did, Cavtat. In contrast to Dubrovnik, Cavtat was much smaller, quiet, and slow pace with a nice small town and beautiful places to swim in the sea.
These last two cities mark the end of a one month voyages across Croatia visiting 20 total cities and 2 national parks. Croatia was a dream country for many years and finally made this dream a reality. Like I say in the video, I thought this was all a dream. But it's all very much real. Cheers to an incredible voyage across Croatia, a beautiful country with so much history. Off to Momtenegro and the rest of the Balkans until I hit Greece :)

Dubrovnik is an epic city. It's filled with rich history, architecture, culture, and an amazing landscape. I did my best to capture both the people, the castle, and the surrounding landscape. Enjoy!
All shot, edited, sound designed, and color graded by me. I may be releasing some of the drone footage via Drop Box. Drop a comment if you want me to post the link. All shot with DJI Mavi Pro and an old Sony Nex 5R
