Biserica datează din anul 1352, fiind realizată în cruce greacă înscrisă. Biserica Sfântul Nicolae Domnesc este unul dintre cele mai reprezentative monumente ale arhitecturii românești medievale, fiind și cea mai veche ctitorie voievodală din Țara Românească. Pictura Bisericii, realizată în tehnica frescă, datează din 1369.

The church dates back to 1352 and was constructed in Greek cross shape. The Princely Church of Saint Nicholas is one of the most representative monuments of the medieval Romanian architecture, being also the oldest voievodal establishment in Wallachia. The painting of the Church, made in the fresco technique, dates back to 1369.
