The Princess Mother Memorial Park (อุทยานเฉลิมพระเกียรติสมเด็จพระศรีนครินทราบรมราชชนนี, often shortened to สวนสมเด็จย่าฯ, Suan Somdet Ya) is a park in Bangkok, Thailand. It was established in 1993, and opened on January 21, 1997, by King Bhumibol Adulyadej, in remembrance of his mother Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother.
The park contains gardens and a reproduction of the royal mother's childhood home, as well as two exhibition halls showing memorabilia of the princess and the royal family and a pavilion with a statue of the princess. There is also a souvenir shop which sells items from charitable foundations and social welfare organisations which used to be under her patronage; the profits go to help the poor and the destitute.
The park is located within Khlong San district, close to the banks of the Chao Phraya river, near the south end of Phra Pok Klao Bridge, on Soi Somdet Chao Phraya 3, next to the Kuan Ou Shrine.

Memorial
Her cremation ceremony, on March 10, 1996, was one of the biggest events Thailand has witnessed in modern times, attended by hundred thousands of people and millions watched on television nationwide. Her ashes were afterward enshrined in the Wat Ratchabophit temple in Bangkok. Srinagarindra was beloved and highly respected in Thailand as a person of integrity and good morals. In 1993, in remembrance of her, the king established The Princess Mother Memorial Park in Bangkok, which consists of gardens and a reproduction of her childhood home.
Notes
There is some confusion as to why the Princess Mother was never titled Queen Mother, considering that she was the mother of two kings. Since her husband was never king and only had the title of a prince, she never ascended as a queen-consort, and was therefore she was given the title “Princess Mother” by her son.

His Majesty the King left Siriraj Hospital on Friday afternoon to visit Wat Anongkharam Worawihan and the Princess Mother Memorial Park.
The King made merit at Wat Anongkharam Worawihan, a second-grade royal temple built during the early Rattanakosin period.
His Majesty later visited the Princess Mother Memorial Park. The site was opened by His Majesty in 1997, in remembrance of his mother.
Many people, most wearing yellow, lined the streets to catch a glimpse of their King.

BEAUTIFUL CHINESE SHRINE ON THE CHAO PHRAYA RIVER | Gong Wu Shrine, Bangkok, Thailand
This is a beautiful Chinese shrine on the Chao Phraya River, called Gong Wu Shrine in Bangkok, Thailand.
It is located on the west side of the Chao Phraya River, right behind the Princess Mother Memorial Park.
The shrine is decorated in beautiful traditional Chinese artwork and colorful lanterns hanging from above.
There are 2 floors to this shrine, which overlooks the Chao Phraya River.
It is rather quite a small, but cozy shrine.

I took a walk around this scenic, serene garden in the grounds of Wat Prayoon (Wat Prayurawongsawat Worawihan) in Bangkok, Thailand. People were feeding turtles inside. Best of all, it's free!
Religious ceremony marks the opening of the Tsunami Memorial Park
Thai officials took part in a religious ceremony to mark the opening of the Tsunami Memorial Park in Ban Nam Khem on Friday.
The Park features a portrait of Poom Jensen, the son of Thai Princess Ubolratana a member of the royal family, who died in the tsunami.
Army General Anupong Paochinda, surrounded by other officials, laid a wreath next to the portrait.
Visitors to the Park could be seen pinning flower garlands on the memorial wall.
The tsunami struck around 10 a.m. local time on December 26 2004.
The final number of dead in Thailand was put at almost 5,400. Around 230,000 people died across the region.

STORYLINE
Two members of the Thai royal family paid a visit to the devastated resort island of Phuket on Thursday to offer support and aid for victims and families of the December 26 tsunami.
Princesses Siribha Chudhabhorn and Ploypailin Jensen were received at the German-owned Kamala Bay Garden Resort hotel where some of the rooms have been turned into a temporary school for children whose school was destroyed by the tsunami.
It is expected to take two to four months for their school to be rebuilt.
Meanwhile, the students - aged between seven and 12 - are having classes and eating their meals at the hotel.
The school is providing the food for the hotel to make school lunches, while the hotel is giving free milk to all the children.
The princesses are both granddaughters of 78-year-old King Bhunipol who lost a grandson during the tsunami.
Thailand has about 5,300 confirmed deaths and more than 3,000 people still missing from the earthquake-driven tsunami, which killed more than 150,000 people in the Indian Ocean region.

Buddhists set fire to stacks of bones on Monday in a mass cremation of Bangkok's poor - 21,347 people in ten days.
The cremation was organised by an ethnic Chinese benevolent association that holds funeral rituals for the unclaimed bodies of accident victims and the poor.
Two-thousand worshippers came to pay their respects, believing it was a joyful rite sending Bangkok's most wretched to a better afterlife.

Buddhists set fire to stacks of bones on Monday to clear cemeteries of the remains of Bangkok's poor.
Pickups and army trucks transported the remains of 21,347 people last month to the new crematorium in Samut Sakhon, 25 miles south of the capital.
A pyramid of hundreds of skulls was erected before the crematorium last week in preparation. Each was decorated with gold leaf.
Celebrants knelt and prayed, made offerings of food and spattered scented water on the bones.
Coins that had been placed in mouths of now-desiccated corpses for good luck were removed before the bodies were put into the flames.
The benevolent association, Po Teck Tung, sends rescue crews to accidents.
The living are taken to hospitals and the dead to a central Bangkok cemetery.
Poor people who cannot afford funerals also sometimes leave bodies of relatives with the association.

The remains of thousands of other people were treated less

Femurs, clavicles, hips, ribs and skulls were stacked in hundreds of baskets near the crematorium, next to wood and coal used for kindling.
This current cremation is the biggest in the group's 86-year history and, some members claim, the biggest in the world.
The need became urgent when construction of a new freeway began on part of the association's cemetery.
Association members believe they gain Buddhist religious merit by taking part in disposing of such bodies.
The supreme patriarch of Thailand's Buddhists blessed the ceremony.
As the dead went up in flames, evil spirits were supposed to be chased away in what two-thousand worshippers believed was a joyful rite sending Bangkok's most wretched to a better afterlife.
