About Me:
My name is Kevin Cook. I'm originally from Dallas, TX, but I've been living and traveling in Asia since 2013.
After graduating from university in 2011 and working a few unfulfilling jobs, I saved enough money to move to Asia and work as a teacher for a few years. That opportunity allowed me to travel around and experience new foods and cultures, and ignited a passion for blogging and making videos.
Now I travel full-time and make videos with the goal that I can encourage YOU to pursue your own dream of overseas traveling and living.

CHINA: HOW TO: Sleeper Trains (FULL HD)
*PLEASE HELP me to grow my Youtube channel by clicking the SUBSCRIBE button above or the link below. It only takes a second and it will really help me out. Thank you so much! I really appreciate it!
Here is a quick video of a Chinese sleeper train. I decided to take the sleeper train from Kunming, across Yunnan Province, to Lijiang. The trip cost approximetely $22 USD for a hard sleeper (2nd class) and took 8.5 hours. The bed was fairly comfortable. A little narrow, but the length was good. Im 5'11 or 180cm and had just enough room. I was alone in my berth so I had some privacy, but the 2nd class sleepers don't have doors so you have the open hallway at your feet so its not completely private. Over all it was a great experience.
Next Destination: Malaysia

Let's Go For A Walk Inside the Largest Building in the World
The New Century Global Center in Chengdu, China is often considered the world's largest building. With almost 19 million square feet of floor space, no other building has more floor area. It's freaking huge! Inside there is 400,000 meters squared shopping mall, many offices, conference rooms, a university complex, two commercial centres, hotels including the Intercontinental Hotel with over 1000 rooms, an IMAX cinema, a Mediterranean village, a ton of restaurants, cafes, and bars, a skating rink, and even a 5000 square metre artificial beach, which includes the 9th largest screen in the world.
It’s estimated that the cost of this building was up around 7 billion US dollars.
It was built by a Chinese billionaire named Deng Hong, who last I heard was arrested for corruption.
This was in 2013, the same year that the Global Centre opened.
I believe he was released, but I think he’s gone into hiding or something because I can’t find any current info on him.
It's easy to get lost in this massive structure. In this video, I take you on a walk through the building, showing you all the interesting bits that I know of. It's a tour of the largest building in the world!
HOW TO VISIT THE GLOBAL CENTER IN CHENGDU
It's very easy to visit this giant building. Metro line 1 will take you right there (you don't even have to go outside). Head south to stop Jincheng Plaza (锦城广场).
If you prefer to take a taxi, you can ask for xīnshìjì huánqiú zhōngxīn or show the driver the name in Chinese: 新世纪环球中心
Tune in Tuesdays and Thursdays at around 3PM EST for new videos, including my series Chengdu: City of Gastronomy ( where I randomly pick a card that has a Sichuan dish on it and I hit the city to find it and try it. There's so much good food in Chengdu, Asia's first ever city to be named a UNESCO City of Gastronomy.

CHINA | cinematic travel video ???????? 中国 - 景区旅游视频 great wall pandas opera li yulong river hong kong
China - a cinematic travel video
中国 - 景区旅游视频
In our recent exploration of the country of China, I wanted to capture not only the places, but the people as well. From day one China exceeded our expectations. The country, with its natural and historic beauty, overwhelmed us. But its people forever captured our hearts. ❤????????
在我们对中国的探索中,我不仅要捕捉地方,还要捕捉人民。从第一天起,中国超出了我们的预期这个拥有自然和历史美景的国家让我们不知所措。但它的人民永远抓住了我们的心。
Our first stop was Beijing, with lodging at Beijing Double Happiness Courtyard Hotel. Our favorite places there included the Lama Temple, Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, the Great Wall at Mutianyu, and Beihai Park. We utilized the public transit system to get around and it was no problem at all. The subway system and buses were very clean and extremely safe. And we called upon China Highlights, a private tour company, to get us to and from the Great Wall.
Next was Chengdu and Emeishan. The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Pandas was gorgeous! We arrived first thing in the morning, with the weather nice and cool, almost no crowds, and the pandas were awake and feeding! We also enojoyed the wide and narrow alley pedestrian malls, Old Chengdu, Du Fu Thatched Cottage, the Leshan Giant Buddha, and of course Emei Mountain with it's multitude of monestaries and temples.
Guilin and Yangshou were next. From Guilin, we visited the breathtaking landscape of the Longji Rice Terraces and had lunch in the village up above. In September the rice was about ready to harvest, so the fields were full of color. The next day we went on a spectacular cruise down the Li River. Wow, those mountains! Our lodging was our favorite of the entire trip at Gui Lin Yi Royal Palacein the heart of Guilin Park.
Yangshuo was our favorite city, surrounded by majestic karst mountains. We watched the Impression of Sanjie Liu show at night, went bamboo rafting down the Yulong River, and rode bikes through the countryside. Incredible landscapes in every direction.
We arrived in Hong Kong just in time for the Mid-Autumn, or Moon, Festival. Once again we utilized the public transit system, which was safe, clean, and fast. We sailed on a traditional Chinese junkaround the harbor and were able to witness the Light Show at night. We also enjoyed Tian Tan Buddha, Nan Lian Garden, and witnessed the Tai Hang Fire Dragon dance as well. Simply spectacular!
One could visit China for the history alone. But the incredible gardens, architecture, and landscapes cannot be missed. China's greatest asset, however, is it's people. We found a new love and respect for the Chinese. Such a great country. Such a great people. You must go see for yourself.

TOP 10 of CHINA: MUST SEE SIGHTs & HIDDEN GEMs for your FIRST VISIT
These are my TOP 10 MUST SEE SIGHTS and HIDDEN GEMS that we saw during our 5 weeks in China. From busy cities to cute hipster towns. Natural wonders to man made gems. China really has everything need to make it your next favourite travel destination: this is your China travel inspiration!
In this video, we look at the best places to visit and some of the most useful China travel advice for your first visit: including train travel, how to access the internet through a VPN and how to deal with culture shock.
EVERY PLACE FEATURED AND INFORMATION MENTIONED IN THE VIDEO (in alphabetical order).
FULL CHINA SERIES PLAYLIST:
BEST VPN FOR CHINA: To access any western social media platforms in China, you're going to need a VPN. Ivacy offers a great VPN for a very affordable price (ad):
APPS TO DOWNLOAD
I should really have mentioned this in the video. Before your trip, make sure you download WeChat (it's free) for scanning things in shops and restaurants for translation. Didi is also a good one, it's the Chinese Uber!
BEIJING
The capital of China is a big, busy city but it's little hutongs are a lot of fun to explore. The Summer Palace and the Forbidden City are both really worth seeing as well.
CHAKA SALT LAKE -
A lesser visited gem, located about 4 hours away from the city of Xining in Qinghai province. Famous for it's mirror-like reflections of the sky.
CULTURE SHOCK
I received a lot of comments saying that people had some reservations and fears about visiting China. To be honest, I felt the same way before I went.
DALI -
An ancient city in Yunnan province that has a little bit of everything that I love! There's nature on the shores of Erhai Lake and up in the heights of Canshan Mountain. The stunning Three Pagodas temple and the bustling culture of the ancient city.
GREAT WALL OF CHINA -
Requires no introduction. But I really recommend exploring the wilder and more remote areas of the wall, rather than the touristy sections. In this film I looked at 3 different areas and compared the strengths and weaknesses of each.
HONG KONG -
A giant, sprawling city. Which also has some amazing natural spots like Lantau Island and Kowloon Park, That's what I focussed on in my travel film.
KUNMING -
Kunming has a reputation for being a transport hub, but it's actually a really fun city to spend a few days. The Dragon Gate and Green Lake Park are particularly great and are the main focus of my travel guide linked above.
LIJIANG OLD TOWN -
A beautiful ancient town with stunning maze like streets. It rained most of the time we were there, so I went searching for the little hidden gems of the streets.
RAINBOW MOUNTAINS -
This was the best day that I had in China. Away from the Danxia Landform Geopark is a peaceful national park that is so worth exploring. It feels more like Australia or the US than China.
SHANGHAI -
The last stop that we had in China. You can get some amazing views from the World Financial Centre Viewpoint.
TRAIN TRAVEL IN CHINA
The main way we got around China. We booked everything through China Highlights, which made thinks very easy (not sponsored, just good):
VPN (virtual private network)
You need a VPN to access almost every western social media accounts in China. For an affordable, but good VPN use Ivacy (ad):
XIAN -
I spent 24 hours exploring Xian and it definitely wasn't enough time. The Terracotta Warriors are amazing, but my film focusses on the other gems of the city.
XINGPING -
Home to the best view in China: Laozhai Mountain.
YANGSHUO -
Beautiful karst mountains, rivers and hiking. My video guide features everything we did there and it's a pretty extensive list! Including instructions on how to get to the best viewpoint in the area.
