Shanghai Zhujiajiao water town with Private Tour Guide Scarlett Mao

Eastern China is famous for water towns. And Zhujiajiao is the most accessible water town to visit from central Shanghai. Like most water towns, Zhujiajiao has lots of bridges, canals, old streets, tea houses, private gardens etc. However, it gets touristy and crowded during the weekend. If you have time limitations, and/or are having a budget trip, Zhujiajiao definitely is a good option.
Bike Tour Shanghai (Culture Shock) | Shanghai Vlog
Filming and biking is not a good idea...

So I went on this biking tour arranged by a company called Culture Shock. It was actually really cool! They showed me stuff in Shanghai that I never had seen before (even though I have lived here for 7 months)
Follow me on Instagram: SHANGHAI VLOGGER
Here is some facts about the tour and company:
Founded in 2015 by young entrepreneurs who wanted an alternative to standard/touristy bike tours, together with Shanghainese local experts they looked into a new option for both short-term visitors and expats living in Shanghai.
Culture Shock experiences are multi-theme & off the beaten path tours allowing guests to enjoy China History/Culture/Food and much more, with an experienced foreign tour leader speaking Mandarin, in just a Half day!
We believe that the discovery of a city and its culture cannot be limited to a few buildings and historic dates.
It requires meeting with its people and letting interactions happen naturally for a full immersion.

Shanghai, Yu Yuan - China Travel Channel
The Yu Garden (Yuyuan Garden 豫园) in Shanghai is one of the most beautiful gardens in China. The garden, located in the northeast of the Old Town of Shanghai, covers an area of more than 20000 square meters and 28 buildings is easily accessible by Shanghai Metro Line 10.
During the Ming Dynasty, in 1559, the imperial official Pan Yunduan created the garden in the Suzhou style as a private garden for his parents .In the 19th century, during the Opium Wars, the Taiping Rebellion and the Sino-Japanese War, the Yu Yuan garden was severely damaged. The reconstruction started in 1960 and since 1961 the garden is open to the public.
A Chinese garden always consists of four elements: water, rocks, plants and a pagoda. Furthermore It is important that the design of a garden never shows its entirety, to allow different landscapes within a garden.
Since 1982, the Yu Garden is a national monument of China.

Michelin Star CHINESE Breakfast at The PuLi Hotel & Spa + KING SUITE TOUR | Shanghai, China
In April of 2019, I had the pleasure of getting hired by Renault for a one-day job in Shanghai, China. I knew I had to spend more than a day in China, so I extended my trip to 12 days so I’d have enough time to explore a few cities properly. In addition to Shanghai, I also ate my way through Suzhou and Hangzhou and learned a lot about the history and culture along the way. It was such an amazing trip and I’m thrilled I get to share it with you!
After arriving back in Shanghai to begin a one-day job with Renault, my sixth day in China began with a phenomenal Chinese breakfast at their Michelin-star winning restaurant and a tour of my incredible suite at the luxurious PuLi Hotel & Spa! Come along with me as I show you what this immaculate hotel is all about!
The PuLi Hotel & Spa has 193 rooms, a gym, and the Phénix Restaurant, which has one Michelin Star. It’s so quiet inside. It puts you in Zen mode right away. Inside the lobby is a super long table and a gorgeous seating area. It’s so unique and so Chinese and is definitely one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at.
I was really hungry and wanted to beat the crowds, so I headed up to the Phénix Restaurant to get some breakfast! Their dining room is enormous, with two tables, a Continental-like breakfast, sofas, and a buffet with tons of options like buns, fruit, cheese, cold cuts, salmon, and more. There’s a larger room, but I took a private one instead.
At the bottom of the menu are seven Chinese specialties for 75 Yuan/roughly $11 U.S. each. I went with the doubled-boiled chicken broth pork wontons, stir-fried Shanghai noodles, and egg fried rice. I’d had the other four items, so I wanted to switch it up!
I drank a double espresso while I waited. I started with the pork wontons. They were a little different and came with super-thin noodles. There were only 3 wontons, but that’s how it is in Michelin star restaurants. The portions are always really small, but the quality of the food is always astronomical.
The wontons were like a pork ball with a little bit of wonton wrapper around it. It was kind of like a fish. Then, I went with the noodles, which kind of reminded me of the delicate glass noodles from Thailand. It was worth the price!
Then, I went with the egg fried rice, which came with burnt onions on top. It was my first fried rice dish in China! It was incredible. The egg was cut up throughout the dish. It wasn’t oily, either. It was just right and had a nice crunch for the onions. I wasn’t sure if it was worth the price, but it was tasty!
Next was the stir-fried Shanghai noodles. The sauce was like a red, glazy sauce and the noodles had spring onion and other vegetables in it.
Then I went over to the buffet to get a pork bun, a vegetable bun, a custard bun for dessert, and a pork rice dumpling. I grabbed some soy sauce and another coffee. I started with the pork rice dumpling, which is famous in Shanghai. It’s condensed and tastes more like a grain and feels like a pot sticker.
The pork bun was bite-sized and super soft. I love pork buns so much! The vegetable bun was next. It was shaped differently and contained some kind of meat that might have been pork. Amazing! Then I went with the custard bun, which was really sweet and was the perfect way to end my meal!
Then I went up to my room, a Grand King Suite on the 6th floor. My suite was so sick! There was a great bed, a huge couch where I could work, a table where I put my equipment, a flat screen TV you could move around, a lovely bathroom with a tub and sink and two closets. There was also a huge shower and a separate toilet. It was simple, elegant, and chic!
I also had a view of the park! The bathtub overlooks the park and is the perfect place to relax. I highly recommend staying at the PuLi Hotel & Spa when you come to Shanghai. It has everything you could possibly want!
If you enjoyed joining me for my incredible, Michelin-star Chinese breakfast and my King Suite tour, please give it a thumbs up and leave me a comment. Also, please subscribe to my channel so you don’t miss any of my upcoming travel/food adventures!

$1 TAXI / DIDI IN SHANGHAI [Chinese Uber] (VLOG 68)
It´s Digga-Time again!
And it´s been also Didi-Time (Chinese Uber). Once again I visited Sebastian and Grace in Shanghai and spent a great weekend with them. This episode took us to an old butchery, we met a new friend from Hong Kong, had an amazing beefy dinner and rode around Shanghai with private taxies for super cheap prices. One ride was even just $1 - crazy! Check it out!
Disclosure: We know that it isn´t really environment-friendly to ride around with private cars even if they are E-Cars. But at least, they are E-Cars :P

China: Shanghai - Yu Garden
Yuyuan garden (Chinese. UPR. World, Pinyin: Yùyuán) in Shanghai — private classical garden of China. It is located in the heart of old town Nanshi. Its name means Garden of Joy, or Garden of Leisurely Holiday, today is indeed a pastoral world inside modern and hectic metropolis.
Zhujiajiao - Ancient Water Town | Shanghai Vlog | Day Trip in China | Tourist
Zhujiajiao (朱家角) is an ancient water town located in the district of Qingpu in Shanghai.
The town consists of bridges and ancient buildings lining the riverbanks and is also known for its green soy beans, so you'll find a lot of Chinese desserts and sticky rice foods.
Getting there: Zhujiajiao is within walking distance from the Zhujiajiao Station (Line 17) which can be reached by transferring from the Hongqiao Railway Station (Line 10) on the Shanghai Metro.
The best time to visit is during April and May because it is out in the open and would be way too hot during the summer (unless that's what you're into). During the rainy season you will most likely be dodging umbrella's to the eye.
