London and Paris Vacation - Traveling Robert
This is a chronicle of our trip to London and Paris in the spring of 2015. We stay in Greenwich just to east of London, visit several other places in England such as Windsor, Bath and Stonehenge. Also see all the major Paris tourist attractions including a cruise on the Seine River except for the Louvre Museum. It is still a great Paris Travel Guide for a first timer.

Lake District, The Complete Tour, England
The Lake District in northwest England is a very popular holiday destination, famous for lakes, forests, mountains and quaint villages. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2017. We are staying in Bowness-on-Windermere for several days of fun excursions.
Click to Subscribe
our tour arranged by:
Four of the top activities are exploring the towns, taking boat rides, do a little nature walking, and take a driving tour of the region to see the other nearby lakes and quaint villages. Most of our program takes place during a van tour of the lakes that visits 10 different lakes, including Brotherswater, Derwent Water, Grasmere, Ullswater and Windermere. On the van ride we also take a walk in the village of Grasmere, famous for William Wordsworth. You will be amazed by Castlerigg Stone Circle, 4500 years old, one of the area’s historic gems. Then we take a lunch stop in Keswick, whilst exploring the traditional Lakeland market town. We also do a Lake Cruise, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Lakeland fells from Derwent Water.
You can pick from a variety of kinds of excursion boats on Lake Windermere: you can have a one-hour cruise or go for an all-day expedition. You could enjoy a cruise with dinner, there are hydrofoils, rowboats or sailboats for rent -- all kinds of nautical activities exist here on the shores of Lake Windermere.
By the end of the 18th century the region was already becoming popular with visitors and this has steadily grown to the point where today nearly 20 million annual visitors enjoy the beauties of this special place. This huge amount of tourists can be a challenge to deal with in your visit, but you will find the beauties of the natural landscapes make your efforts quite worthwhile. In this show we have useful suggestions to help your planning.
Summer season is obviously most crowded and brings with it the best weather with least chances of rain, so take your chances, but we suggest the shoulder season, like the visit shown here which was during May, a perfect time to visit. We never felt inconvenienced by any crowds. After all, facilities like hotels and restaurants are able to handle the peak crowds of summer, so if you are here in May, with proper reservations at a decent hotel, you will have no problems. Of course the summer is when everybody wants to be here but we find that May is ideal.
You’ll need to spend at least several nights in the area this to really get a chance to see the charming countryside, explore some towns, go shopping, and perhaps enjoy some fine dining. This is actually two towns joined together as one: Windermere is a mile to the north and Bowness-on-Windermere lies along the shores of the lake. Each center has its cluster of shops and restaurants, but the main focus is down at Bowness, which has most of the hotels and that special setting along the water.
The town of Bowness is a good base of operations for heading out to see the other lakes in the district and enjoying some day tours as we will be doing.
Windermere is the largest and the longest lake in the British Isles, about 10 miles long with a 24-mile circumference, and there are several villages along the shores of the lake. We see Lake Windermere the easy way, on a boat ride.
We are travelling in mid-May and ran into some great weather. And actually it’s quite pleasant the temperature here is in the low 70s there is a slight breeze on the lake but not terribly windy. a most pleasant day.
The temperature is pleasant enough that it’s comfortable to sit outside, After all you want the view -- that’s why we’re enjoying this boat ride, to have a look at this charming rolling countryside along the shores of the lake of Windermere.
Some of us decided to get off the boat at Ambleside which is one of the main small towns here in the Lake Country. There's a level nature trail from the boat dock to Ambleside town passing first through an open meadow with some Roman ruins visible, and then along beautiful stream. We also get to see the sheep frolicking around. The walk only took about the walk only took about 30 minutes.
We came upon foundations of ancient Roman buildings. From such forts the Romans could control hundreds of square miles. the army was staffed in part by Roman soldiers and mercenaries, some of them from Yugoslavia. Roman rule began in Britain back in A.D. 43. A massive army of 40,000 soldiers quickly conquered most of the island and Romans remained in control for the next 300 years.
When the path follows along the stream it becomes so beautiful, lined with wildflowers, that you feel you stepped into some kind of movie or dream. Those few minutes became one of the top highlights of the three-week tour of the British Isles. A simple walk through the woods could provide a transcendental experience.
Lake District, 10 Lakes Tour, England
England's Lake District is one of the prettiest parts of the United Kingdom as we'll show you in our driving tour that's going to be visiting most of the lakes of this wonderful area in the northwest of Great Britain, sharing with you some astonishingly pretty views.
We'll also visit some of the small towns that dot this landscape and we will take you on a boat ride from one end of Ullswater to the other, it's the second largest Lake in the Lake District, although it's only 9 miles long, so you'll find that the Lake District is relatively compact in size.
It's about 30 miles wide and about 40 miles from north to south, all included in the National Park that was created in 1951.
Windermere 2:53 Ambleside 4:00 Rydalwater 5:14 Grasmere 5:51 Thirlmere 9:51 Derwentwater 10:50 Buttermere 13:44 Crummockwater 14:17 Keswick 15:06 Castlerrig Stone Circle 15:33 Ullswater 17:36 Brotherswater 20:11 Troutbeck 21:08 Peter Rabbit 21:56
Especially when guided by a tour company like Mountain Goat with our excellent driver, Kevin, in their minibus that will take us to all of the main sights without any effort on your part. We’re going to show you a one-day trip summarized in this movie in which we see the major lakes.
While it's called the Lake District for a good reason – that's the main attraction – there are many other sites to see, like the old stone bridge, the beautiful countryside we’re driving past, the mountain streams and lakes of course.

London, United Kingdom Travel - Visit Soho Neighborhood
Food, nightlife, and fashion in this London neighborhood.
Getting There/Directions
Tube: Piccadilly Circus
You cannot visit London and not take a walk through Soho, near Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Street. To get to Soho you can take the tube to either Piccadilly Circus or Oxford Circus stations. Rickshaws are a fun or a bit costly way to explore the area but I just prefer walking.
Chinatown, this arch actually marks the pedestrian zone at Jarod Street has also become the gateway to Chinatown. There are a number of pubs, bars and restaurants here. And there are also some fine dining for the epicure at this Coco Marco Pierre Whit, the French restaurants on Greek Street. For the vegetarians Mildreds on Lexington Street is a good option.
Ronnie Scott's on First Street is the most popular jazz club here. For artistic ventinue there are a few private galleries here. The Soho might seem a little run down but it is transformed in to a cultural square during summer. This is where concerts and cultural events are held and it is just a great place to sit back and relax. I am Peter Halpin showing you London.
London, England travel: Hyde Park / Kensington Palace / Roya
Hyde Park, plus Kensington Gardens, have a combined area of over 625 acres right in the middle of London. Beautiful! Kensington Palace is the Royal residence set inside Kensington Gardens, and Princess Diana remained there after her marriage ended and until the day of her death. Her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, went to local nursery and pre-preparatory schools in Notting Hill, which is a short drive away. Lastly, we are outside the Royal Albert Hall of Arts and Sciences, an arts venue dedicated to Queen Victoria's husband Prince Albert. It is situated in the South Kensington area of London , England. Thanks, Wikipedia! Copyleft music by Rogg Maddeford Duo. More than a day trip from Thornbury Castle, and certainly worth the travel! (You can view this video, and other travel videos in full-size and near-DVD quality, travel stills and more at jpmeyer.com). Thornbury Castle is part of the von Essen Group of hotels, a private collection of individual country house hotels in the UK, each with a distinctive style and character of its own according to vonessenhotels.co.uk, but we think of it as Real People having Real Fun!

Driving in Notting Hill EP. 1 - London UK - 4K Ultra HD Video
#nottinghill #londondrivingtour #kensingtonchelsea
NOTTING HILL HISTORY
Notting Hill is a district in West London, located north of Kensington within the Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea. Notting Hill is known for being a cosmopolitan neighbourhood, hosting the annual Notting Hill Carnival and Portobello Road Market.
In the early 21st century, Notting Hill has a reputation as an affluent and fashionable area known for attractive terraces of large Victorian townhouses and high-end shopping and restaurants (particularly around Westbourne Grove and Clarendon Cross). A Daily Telegraph article in 2004 used the phrase the Notting Hill Set to refer to a group of emerging Conservative politicians, such as David Cameron and George Osborne, who would become respectively Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer and were once based in Notting Hill.
For much of the 20th century, the large houses were subdivided into multi-occupancy rentals. Caribbean immigrants were drawn to the area in the 1950s, partly because of the cheap rents, but were exploited by slum landlords like Peter Rachman and also became the target of white Teddy Boys in the 1958 Notting Hill race riots.
From around 1870, Notting Hill had an association with artists.

SW3 Video Tour (Chelsea)
The SW3 area of London is just fantastic, it mainly encompasses Chelsea, but it also covers a small part of Knightsbridge. Chelsea offers a wide choice of beautiful townhouses and mansion flats, while there are many riverside flats and houses along the Thames. Chelsea is considered to be a prime residential area in London.
Property in Chelsea is highly sought after, thanks to its central location and excellent transport links. A diverse range of people buy and rent houses and apartments in Chelsea, from young single people and couples to families.
Arguably, the most exclusive and expensive place to buy and rent property in Chelsea is around Sloane Square and Knightsbridge tube stations, where SW3 and SW1 meet. A high volume of overseas nationals buy property in this part of town, with many freeholds owned by Earl Cadogan.
Chelsea is also sought after by families both from the UK and abroad due to the fantastic schools it has to offer, including 'Hill House' once attended by HRH Prince Charles, the first Heir to the English Throne to wear a school uniform and attend school outside the Royal Home.
Popularly renowned for drawing in the hippy or rock'n'roll crowds, this was a cool hotspot for musicians such as Bob Marley and members of the Rolling Stones, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, who owned homes in the neighbourhood. Chelsea was the epicenter of London's swinging sixties.
This area also once had a reputation as London's bohemian quarter, attracting artists, radicals, and poets, and was the home of Oscar Wilde and Sir Thomas More. Today, many affluent people continue to live in Chelsea, including a number of celebrities.
SW3 is host to some of London's biggest events and museums. The vast range of striking visitor attractions include, the Duke of York pedestrian precinct and the Saatchi art gallery, Chelsea Harbour and the National Army Museum, has ensured that the neighbourhood is also fashionable with tourists visiting London. As a consequence, a good mix of locals and tourists are prevalent in everyday life in Chelsea.
The area also plays host to the horticultural event of the year, the annual Chelsea Flower Show, which takes place in summer at the Royal Hospital, home of the Chelsea Pensioners, and attracts visitors from around the world.
Situated close to Belgravia, Chelsea is a chic place to shop, with the curved façade of Peter Jones department store on Sloane Square marking the beginning of the King's Road, the heart of the area and home to an abundance of high-end fashion stores, smaller independent clothes and shoe shops, plus a wide selection of contemporary furnishing stores and antique shops.
Chelsea has a village feel to it, you will feel right at home, know your neighbours and be swooned by the charm it has to offer. Properties are just fantastic and SW3 is one of the cleanest and safest areas of London. Be the envy of your friends, family and colleagues and purchase or rent a fabulous home in one of London's truly magical areas.

Lavender Hill so called because there were fields of lavender here before development in the 1800s.
The name Clapham Common comes from Anglo Saxon - Clopp (Hill) Ham (Village) 100 people in 1100AD.
Village by the Hill .
Became popular after plague and fire drove people south.
By 1800s it attracted wealthier people who built nice houses.
Samuel Pepys gave it prestige.
Clapham Common
Holy Trinity Church - A group of Evangelical Christians, including William Wilburforce who worshipped at Clapham Common’s Holy Trinity Church were instrumental in the abolition of the slave trade. Its permanent collection, numbering some eight million works, is amongst the largest and most comprehensive in existence and originates from all continents, illustrating and documenting the story of human culture from its beginnings to the present.
The British Museum was established in 1753, largely based on the collections of the physician and scientist Sir Hans Sloane. The museum first opened to the public on 15 January 1759 in Montagu House in Bloomsbury, on the site of the current museum building. Its expansion over the following two and a half centuries was largely a result of an expanding British colonial footprint and has resulted in the creation of several branch institutions, the first being the British Museum (Natural History) in South Kensington in 1887. Some objects in the collection, most notably the Elgin Marbles from the Parthenon, are the objects of intense controversy and of calls for restitution to their countries of origin.

Places to see in ( Manchester - UK ) Chinatown
Chinatown in Manchester, England is an ethnic enclave in the city centre. It is the second largest Chinatown in the United Kingdom and the third largest in Europe. It has an archway on Faulkner Street which was completed in 1987 and contains many Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Nepali, Vietnamese, Singaporean and Malaysian restaurants, shops, bakeries and supermarkets.
Chinatown is a small area of Manchester's city centre. Its boundaries form a rectangle, surrounded by Mosley Street to the west, Portland Street to the east, Princess Street to the south, and Charlotte Street to the north. However, these boundaries are not official; some maps extend Chinatown further south to Oxford Street. To the east lies the city's gay village, centred on Canal Street, and to the north lies Piccadilly Gardens. Being in the city centre, the area is entirely urbanised. Unlike Manchester city centre as a whole, Chinatown's streets appear largely in a grid plan.
One of Chinatown's most noticeable landmarks is the archway, situated on Faulkner Street. The paifang, underneath which road traffic passes, was specially built in China and shipped over in three containers. Construction commenced over Christmas 1986 and was completed by Easter 1987, a year after the city of Manchester was twinned with Wuhan. The structure was a gift from Manchester City Council to the Chinese community, and is adorned with dragons and phoenixes.
However, after many years exposed to the elements, the arch required restoration work to be undertaken; netting was wrapped around a part of the structure to prevent further tiles from dislodging. The Manchester Chinatown Community Group undertook a series of charity events, including a dry land dragon boat race in June 2012. In early 2013 the archway had been successfully repaired, with restoration work being undertaken by Manchester and Cheshire Construction Company.
Another Chinatown landmark is the Guardian telephone exchange. The building is now owned by BT and used for communications work, though it was constructed for an entirely different usage. The building lies atop an underground bunker, constructed between 1949 and 1954 and paid for by NATO. The bunker was a fallout shelter designed to protect officials in the event of an atomic bomb and features over four miles of tunnels. The media were banned from revealing the bunker's existence until 1967 and it was built by Polish workers who could not speak English. Chinatown also has a number of listed buildings, including 55 Faulkner Street, Manchester.
The area's nearest Metrolink stations are Piccadilly Gardens (which is also a bus interchange), and St Peter's Square tram stop. The nearest National Rail stations are Manchester Oxford Road to the south and Manchester Piccadilly to the east of Chinatown, the latter of which can be reached by Metrolink services. Furthermore, there is a car park off Faulkner Street for visitors driving into Chinatown in private vehicles. It is decorated in an oriental theme, in keeping with Chinatown, and a mural of a junk, a Chinese sea vessel, is contained within a brick wall overlooking the car park.
