Surveying Massasaugas in Michigan
Since 2009, Lincoln Park Zoo scientists have been monitoring a healthy population of eastern massasauga rattlesnakes at a field site in southwest Michigan.
Working with partners from more than 20 zoos, wildlife agencies and Northern Illinois University, the zoo hopes to apply its annual observations toward efforts to restore the reclusive species in northern Illinois—part of its native range where it's endangered due to habitat loss.
In this special field report, Vice President of Conservation & Science Lisa Faust, Ph.D.—the project's field conservation advisor—provides an overview of the team's efforts during its most recent trip to Michigan.

Big Rapids Tubing Capital of Michigan
Big Rapids Tubing Capital of Michigan uses the beauty of the Muskegon River that provides a great playground of activity. Buy local Michigan shares some wonderful scenes of tubing in the Big Rapids area. This tradition is taking advantage of the natural resources in Mecosta County. From Ferris students to families the river brings enjoyment.
According to Pure Michigan, Canoe trips from one hour to seven days on Michigan's second longest river or spend a fun filled afternoon floating down the Muskegon River. Tubing trips start at the livery and end at Highbanks Park. About a 2-1/2 hour float or call about our longer tube trips. Fun for the whole family! SOURCE:
Ferris State University Campus paper 'The Torch'. Reporter Travis Sacher. Sacher states in his article, The river winds along the fringes of campus, flowing south from its northern end and usually has a constant current. Students tend to begin their run at Northend Riverside Park, which is the same location as Big Rapids’ disc golf course and follow it to Highbanks. SOURCE:
Chris from Evart stated on Yelp, Me and my family and friends have been going here for the past five years or so as sort of a tradition and compared to some of the other tubing places I've been to these guys are my favorite. The staff is friendly, the trip seems to take just the right amount of time, and the Muskegon river is really nice and deep.
