Taipei's Temples, Taiwan
I visited 70 different temples during a recent 4 day trip to Taipei .
I discovered that Taipei is truly a city of temples. There are the larger vibrant temples bustling with people like Longshan Temple as well as the local shrines hidden from the main tourist paths. Each temple is unique and beautiful and well worth taking the time to find and see. From the small smoke stained gems crushed between buildings to the larger temples with dragons perched upon their swallow-tailed rooftops.
Nearly every temple has a censer (large container for holding incense sticks) stood in front. If the temple is very small it will have one on the altar. If the temple is enormous it will have multiple censers. The censer is usually the easiest to see sign that you have discovered a temple. Each one has the name of the temple engraved upon it and a few even have dragons faces which can be fierce looking or comical. Most of them have at least two dragons clinging to their sides that watch over the incense offered with prayers to the gods.
The gods themselves are situated directly behind the altar which itself is behind the censer. Often there are 'lesser gods' watching prom the sides of the temple as well (some of them are hipster cool with their sunglasses).
Most temples are dedicated to Taoist deities but there are also temples dedicated to Buddhist Bodhisattva, local heroes, spirits, Dutch naval officers and even hell gods.
Each temple is elaborately decorated with dragons and carvings, ponds, golden painted ceilings and stunning decorations.
While I was in Taipei, everyone was celebrating the Moon Festival. Many of the temples were having street parties and every person I met was friendly, often going out of their way to show me around their temples, pointing out the hidden alcoves which housed local deities, and explaining everything (although most of it went over my head as I don't have anything more than the most basic grasp of Mandarin and I don't speak any of the Taiwanese dialects). Still there were so many friendly people willing to help me and guide me to the next temple.
On a side note, Xingtian Temple no longer uses incense so no longer has a censer. It is attempting to reduce its environmental impact and go green by not burning incense.
Special thanks to Mark and Penny! Thank you for coming with me even though it was raining heavily and you were nearly blown away by the strong typhoon winds. You both rock!

Taipei - City Video Guide
In recent decades, Taiwan has transformed itself into one of Asia's premier travel destinations.
It's easy to fall in love with this city. The aroma of street food fills the air. Scooters and bicycles rule the streets. And surrounded by nature, tranquility is never more than a bus ride or hike away.
Start your day at the Longshan Temple, the spiritual heart of Taipei. Taiwan's political heart is the district of Zhongshan, home to the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, 228 Peace Park and the National Taiwan Museum.
Hop on Taipei's excellent MRT and head to the National Palace Museum, home to the world's greatest collection of Chinese art and antiquities.
Taipei's streets are a treasure trove too. Enjoy the blooms at the flower markets. Hunt down bargains in giant department stores and cruise the restaurants in Yong Kang Street.
Rocket to the heavens aboard the high-speed elevators of Taipei 101 and enjoy the spectacular views from one of the world's tallest skyscrapers.
There are plenty of natural vantage points around the city too, such as Elephant Mountain, Maokong Mountain and Mount Qixing.
At sundown, head to the Shilin Night Market to feast, shop and simply enjoy this incredible city.
TAIPEI AT NIGHT — Shilin Night Market — Only Thing
This week on Only Thing, I visit Shilin Night Market and Ningxia Night Market to experience Taipei at night.
Shilin Night Market is one of the biggest and most famous night markets in Taiwan. While the food might not be as good as other night markets (like Ningxia), it has a massive variety of Taiwanese street food snacks and treats—enough to satisfy any craving! It also has endless games to play the night away, and WiGS. Honestly we love wigs.
Ningxia is a much smaller, albeit more authentic, night market. Stroll the street and eat to your heart's content. While I was there, I munched on some little steak bites and shredded chicken with rice. They were absolutely delicious.
Taipei at night definitely fave me Pacific North West vibes—particularly it reminded me of my time in Vancouver. Suddenly, I got very homesick for Canada's west coast. Perhaps it was the rain, or the crowds, or the flashing lights. But it was all very intoxicating.

Taipei TAIWAN: What to See and Do in an afternoon. Memorials and MaoKong
First order of business, I wanted to go see Chiang Kai-shek’s Memorial. Walking past the National Theatre, there were people practicing Tai Chi in the morning. What an unforgettable sight that was – to be immersed in such tradition – to finally see the things I always see in the movies in real life. To finally stand before Chiang Kai-shek’s statue himself and in front of the guards themselves made me feel really surreal. I don’t normally feel that way about many places, but I seldom have a connection such as this one.
You see, in university, I studied contemporary China a lot. I focused and paid attention to WWII and the results. Chiang Kai-shek was definitely a prominent figure in my studies. And being there just brought back so many memories of university and how far and long it’s been. I can’t believe it’s been almost four years since I graduated. I felt extremely old standing there.
Next up, I went over to the Sun Yat-sen Memorial as well. It looked a little bit older and less grand compared to the space of the Chiang Kai-shek’s memorial grounds, but this one featured the changing of the guards. This kind of brought me back to my Washington DC trip in middle school when I witnessed the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It’s funny how in life, we have moments and memories that remain with us for a long time. Even though those feelings have faded, the memories still hold value from within. Moments on the road and moments traveling have made my life much deeper and refined. Staring at Sun Yat-sen’s statue gave me goosebumps. I was in Taiwan. Zomg.
The weather in Taipei was actually pretty comfortable during this time of the year. Sure, the sun was bright, but the heat was tolerable- especially in the evening. I wasn’t really sure what to eat that afternoon because I was still pretty sick from a case of food poisoning the days prior, I just opted to eat some Subway to be safe- simply because it was there and I was starving. To think about it, food in Taipei wasn’t easy to find as I thought. There were certain areas where you could get food and it wasn’t available in the streets in the afternoon or early in the morning. I had a hard time locating random restaurants near these sights. Even if there was a restaurant, a lot of the menus didn’t have a lick of English or pictures.
Another thing that many people do in Taipei is to visit the Maokong area via the Maokong Gondola or Maokong Cable Cars. The lines were line. I had to stand in the sun for quite a bit until the line progressed. People have a chance to either use a basic cabin or a crystal bottom one where the bottom of the cabin is made out of another sheet of glass so you can look down. That was pretty scary. The ride was beautiful, but I’ve been in so many cable cars that they don’t really impress me anymore. When I reached the top, there wasn’t much to do. There was some street food, including calabash candy, which was another thing I saw on TV in real life. That was pretty awesome, but gave me severe tooth pains because of how sweet it was. Trust me, I’ve never bitten into anything so sweet and sour like calabash tomatoes. Most people were walking towards a temple or something. I didn’t feel like visiting a crowded temple, so I opted to find some food. I stumbled upon a random restaurant. Pointed at some pictures. Nobody spoke English. And ate some really weird cold chicken leg thing. My waitress suddenly started speaking Vietnamese to another person, and I almost fell over. I started laughing insanely loud because we had so much trouble communicating my order. She was speaking Chinese and I was speaking Engrish. In the end, we spoke Vietnamese to each other and laughed at our situation. She married a Taiwanese man over 18 years ago and has been living in Taiwan and working there at her mother-in-law’s restaurant for that many years.

A Trip To Taiwan - A Journey Into Asia (45 min. film)
During my summer school in Chinese Mandarin at Taiwan's National Central University NCU I decided to embark as a student and also part-time filmer to demonstrate the power of human collaboration from different cultural backgrounds.
This project led to the creation of a 45 minutes short documentary about a 3 weeks adventure of a group of aspiring engineers going through a life changing events. This project has been made possible with the help of professional music artists, teachers and collaborators who gave life to this amazing experience.

DANGEROUS PAI CANYON & MEMORIAL BRIDGE | Thailand Travel Vlog 122, 2018 | Pai Digital Nomad
Pai Canyon is crazy - there's been more than one death there so it's a cautious hike! The Memorial Bridge was our next stop in Pai, Thailand ⬇ Click 'Show More' to expand ⬇
Pai Canyon is the sort of place you go for a hike, or just visit if you're in Thailand to travel - sadly it's been the cause of a few deaths. Definitely worth the visit if you're heading to Northern Thailand, but not a huge amount of stuff to do there unless you plan on a full hike - otherwise it's enough to just check it out briefly and explore more of Pai.
The Pai Memorial Bridge is another cool thing to do - its not far from the canyon and a nice drive to get there. The Bridge is walking only and situated right next to the newer bridge for cars - interesting history as well.
Thoroughly enjoyed Pai and north Thailand as a whole - highly recommend you visit! Thanks for watching this vlog video.

#VIETNAM/HOCHIMINHCITY/SAIGON/VIETNAM ATTRACTIONS/BESTPLACESTOVISITINVIETNAM/24HRSINVIETNAM/TRAVEL
Ho Chi Minh city, also known as Saigon, is the biggest city in Southern Vietnam. It is more of a sprawling metropolis than Hanoi with its many districts. It is still referred to as Saigon by local & tourist alike. As a first time visitor I stayed at District 1 and explored the wonderful surrounding area on day & Night tours.
Things I covered on Day 2 in Ho chi Minh City:
Admittedly, Ho chi Minh City isn’t it as full of sight as Hanoi with it’s old quarter, but once you get in to the city, there is a certain vibrant liveliness that you can’t ignore. It has a younger, more urban vibe than its counterpart and with almost two hundred years of French occupation, there is plenty to see.
1 - Dinner Cruise: Cruising along Saigon river brings lot of relaxing feeling with cool breeze and nice weather. There are plenty of companies who offer these dinner cruising services which generally starts in the evening around 7 PM and takes you around the Saigon river to get panoramic view of Ho Chi Minh city colorful skyline with delicious Vietnamese food & some wonderful performances by the locals. This 2 hours dinner cruise may cost you in the range of 25 to 35 $ per person, as its prices varies company to company.
2 - Ben Thanh Market:
Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City's District 1 is a great place to buy local handicrafts, branded goods, Vietnamese art and other souvenirs. Here, you’ll find eating stalls inside the market where you can get a taste of hawker-style Vietnamese cuisine or simply cool off with a cold drink when the bargaining becomes too much. The market is big, difficult to navigate at times and certainly best avoided during the hottest part of the day but all the same its well worth a look. When night falls, restaurants around the perimeter of the market open their doors creating a vibrant street side scene filling the air with the scents of wok-fried noodles, barbecued fish and meats. One of Saigon’s oldest landmarks, Ben Thanh offers a great atmosphere that is absolutely authentically Vietnamese.
3 - War Remnants Museum:
The War Remnants Museum in Ho Chi Minh City first opened to the public in 1975. Once known as the ‘Museum of American War Crimes’, it's a shocking reminder of the long and brutal Vietnam War. Graphic photographs and American military equipment are on display. There's a helicopter with rocket launchers, a tank, a fighter plane, a single-seater attack aircraft. You can also see a conventional bomb that weighs at 6,800kg. American troops had used these weapons against the Vietnamese between 1945 and 1975.
The most talked-about exhibits at the War Remnants Museum are the ‘tiger cages'. The South Vietnamese government kept their political prisoners in these confinements. Locals believe the cages imprisoned up to 14 people at a time. The museum also has a guillotine brought in by the French government. Both the French and South Vietnamese used it to execute their prisoners until 1960. Also featured are grisly photos of victims that had suffered ‘Agent Orange’. As many as 4.8 million people were exposed to strong pesticide and chemical spray. The Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs believed 500,000 children were born with birth defects. The War Remnants Museum is in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City. It's every day from 07:30 to 17:00. A visit to this war museum can be disturbing experience for most people. Although children can enter, we highly advise against it.
Opening Hours: Daily 07.30 - 12.00 & 13:30 – 17:00
Location: 28 Vo Van Tan, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City
Thanks for watching ,

ĂN CHÈ HEO QUAY đặc sản, hái DÂU TIÊN xứ Truồi|Du lịch Huế #6
►Facebook:
►Page:
