Vacationing in Washington State - Riverfront Park, Wenatchee
We visited a delightful area in Wenatchee, Washington called Riverfront Park. There is a fun place there called Pybus Market, a farmer's market featuring produce, crafts, and restaurants. There is also a leisurely walkway that winds alongside the Columbia River. Here are some shots I took along the way.
Wenatchee Foodie Tour | Local Lens Seattle
Wenatchee has so much to offer and it’s only a few hours from Seattle!
We got to visit Pybus Market and try all kinds of food, shop and rent bikes… in an interesting way. Then it was off to the Aplets and Cotlets factory where we got a tour of the facility and taste tested our way through. It was a fun behind the scenes look into making these famous Pacific Northwest candies that have been around for 100 years!

Careers After School in Wenatchee
The time is ripe in high school for students to think about their next steps after graduation. In the Wenatchee Valley, students get the opportunity to go behind-the-scenes with local businesses to “test drive” career paths, thanks to partnerships between the Wenatchee School District, the Wenatchee Valley Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations through Wenatchee Learns Connect.

Why do I live in the Wenatchee Valley?
Why do I live in the Wenatchee Valley?
When I was a pilot, I could live anywhere in the world! Our company flew international freight and we did not have a domicile. Being raised in Cle Elum and my wife Emily in Manson, Wenatchee was a perfect place to call home. Emily started working as a teacher for the Wenatchee High School in 2005/06 in the PE and Health department, and we even bought our first home in 2006 before the first crash!
To be honest I wasn't sure if I would like Wenatchee. Living in Cle Elum as a kid, I dreamt of seeing the world. Luckily as a pilot, I got my wish and flew around the world at least 7 times and got to see dozens of different countries. Each country I visited made me appreciate North Central WA even more!
Now, I could not imagine finding a better place to live! The community, fabulous weather, and unlimited recreation is at my doorstep! My parents moved here last year and Emily and I have a 4-month-old daughter that we are excited to raise in such a wonderful place.
North Central WA is our home!

Healthy communities, demographics, and economics | Steve King | TEDxWenatchee
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. What makes a great community? One critical element of a great community is that they are home to healthy people. Healthy communities pay attention to their demographics facilitating strategic investment necessary to create positive economic outcomes that benefit their people. This talk is an invitation to think strategically about how you can improve your community's health.
Steve King is dedicated to serving the community and strives to facilitate improving the social and economic health of Wenatchee. Raised in the small North Central Washington town of Omak, he moved to Wenatchee in 1997 after earning a MS degree in Civil Engineering from Washington State University. Steve really values five years of working at a local private consulting firm which provided invaluable experience for his current position as the Community and Economic Development Director for the City of Wenatchee. Steve really enjoys travel in which he spends his time observing the social and physical dynamics of various communities and analyzing what makes a community great. Steve’s engineering background lends himself to another passion of his which is data analysis. Combining data with anecdotal evidence provides a unique opportunity to share stories to help empower communities to improve, solve problems, and embrace change. While Steve has had the opportunity to participate in numerous community improvement projects, two come to mind when asked what he is most proud of. The first project was the opportunity to work with all of the Wenatchee Valley Rotary clubs in the design and construction of Rotary Park. Today, it brings him great pleasure to see this busy park enjoyed by the community. The second opportunity was helping in the creation of a public private partnership for the construction of the Pybus Public Market on the Wenatchee Waterfront. Steve believes in local healthy foods, local economy, and is thrilled to see the growth of the Wenatchee Valley Farmers Market at the world class and community supported facility. Steve asserts that the Wenatchee Valley has a promising future with assets like these, not to mention, our wonderful outdoor environment, our beautiful downtown, and our history of being a community known for innovation, a hard work ethic, and resiliency.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
