This Flying Drawbridge Lifts And Lowers In A Unique Way
You've never seen a bridge like this before. This is the Slauerhoffbrug. Otherwise known as the Flying Drawbridge. You can find it in the city of Leeuwarden in the Netherlands. It crosses over the Harlinger Vaart River.
How does it fly? The Slauerhoffbrug is classified as a tail bridge. It uses a single pylon, instead of traditional hinges. This method allows for a quick opening. Two hydraulic cylinders in the pylon do the lifting and lowering. Heavy boat traffic utilizes the bridge opening. The bridge raises and lowers 10 times per day.
The bridge was constructed in 2002. Its built from iron and steel. The yellow and blue coloring come from Leewaurden's flag. The Slauerhoffbrug joins many other bridges with interesting designs in the Netherlands.

Shipspotting on the water - Rainbow Star - 13 July 2014
Did some ship spotting in our boat today and tested the new camera. It's the '3SIXT HD Sports Action Cam' from Big W. Its a compact, wide angle cam that comes with waterproof housing and various mounts (you just have buy a Micro SD Card anywhere up to 32GB). Nothing flash like the big name brands but for $50, it's not too bad. It likes its lighting bright but it's not keen on high contrasted areas or overly bright light (what cam is) The sound is muffled due to a small mic and the unit being inside the waterproof housing. But for ship spotting its great, especially if you need a wide angle view to fit all the ship in.
The tanker Rainbow Star features in this video.

THE ANACONDAS ( AMSTERDAM) 30 OTTOBRE 2010 ( ALGHERO, SS)
THE ANACONDAS ( AMSTERDAM) 30 OTTOBRE 2010 ( ALGHERO, SS)
Ladies and GentlemenWelcome to the world of The Anacondas! A world of fast cars, seductive ladies, werewolves and cold-blooded spies. Right now we'd like to take you on a secret mission... Mission Anaconda's gonna be a hell of a ride, so fasten your seatbelts and get with the program... Come on!
The Anacondas started out around early 2000. Band members were Messerschmitt Marzl (drums), Jack Stuka (bass, sometimes rythm guitar), Johnny Torpedo (guitar) and Pete Python (flute, synthesizer). We all got this goofy nick names just for fun, and ofcourse it represents our twisted personalities.
Ever since we saw Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction and got blasted away by the opening track Miserlou by Dick Dale, we wanted to play kick ass, spaced out, groovy, reverb drenched and heavily surf influenced rock 'n' roll. Since then we did lots of shows in Holland, Germany and the U.S.A. in all kindsa clubs like squats, youth centres, tiki bars, pubs, sex clubs, beach clubs, bigger venues like the Amsterdam based Melkweg and Paradiso; we played at private parties and some underground open air festivals. We played in people's living rooms and back yards... Hell, we would play anywhere our backline would fit in... And we still do.
We released a couple of demos, live tapes and did a couple of official released CD's like the self titled The Anacondas (Sonic Rendezvous-2003) and Snakin' all Over (Sonic Rendezvous-2005). Check out the discography section for more.
We all became good friends of eachother and had a great time through the years till all the fun ended in 2005 with the sudden death of our drummer Marzl. Damn, too young, too soon... After Pete, Jack and Johnny crawled up from this knock-out, we realized that we wanted to continue making music. Because we could get along with each other so well both musically and friendship-wise, we decided to go on as a band and found a new drummer in the young and well talented Woody Sticks. Asking Woody to drum for us was somehow a logical step for he already stood in for Marzl once at some rehearsels and a show in Maastricht (Holland), when Messerschmitt injured his arm and wasn't able to play drums for a while some years ago. Woody was his friend and co-worker at the drum store they were working at, and Woody still does... So from now on when we're talking about The Anacondas and we, this includes Pete, Jack, Johnny and Woody.
The Anacondas did a tour through Germany end of 2005 and started gigging around the province of North-Holland recently. Future plans are doing more shows, recordings, merchandise, and anything else which makes it so great to play in a band like this, though we still can't quit our day jobs. Peace goes out to anyone who helped us out and anyone we met on the road in a positive vibe.
The Anacondas are back on the track and you better deal with that.
