How To Travel CAMBODIA On A SHOESTRING: Siem Reap Travel GUIDE 2019
CAMBODIA TRAVEL GUIDE - Here's how to travel through Siem Reap and some general tips for traveling in Cambodia. I stayed mainly in Siem Reap and saw the temples at the Angkor Wat complex, which is what almost EVERYONE who comes to Siem Reap and Cambodia in general does. Really amazing places and I have some tips for moving through South East Asia and Siem Reap.
I actually wrote a HUGE blog post about South East Asia which you might find interesting here:
I spent 3 months backpacking through South East Asia. The countries I visited were Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. I would say these videos show how you can do Southeast Asia on a shoestring as we went to very budget friendly places. This video is a mixture between a backpacking vlog and a street walking video. I like to show what it’s REALLY like in the places I visit.

VIETNAM / CAMBODIA TRIP - Ep. Siem Reap
Chegámos a Siem Reap e fomos logo COMER.
7 Things to do in Siem Reap that AREN'T temples
I'm a BIG fan of temples but there's only so much temple going that one can do. Siem Reap has a lot to offer that shouldn't be missed so here are my recommendations.
More Singapore stuff coming up! (and also some ridiculously exciting news!)
Did you know that a lot of Cambodian villages don't have access to clean drinking water? Unclean water means a multitude of illnesses being spread to families and especially to young children. If you'd like to help, donate here:

Visit Angkor Wat Siem Reap Cambodia
#VisitAngkorWat #SiemReapCambodia
The stunning temple city of Angkor Wat is the world’s single largest religious monument and one of the most important archaeological sites in Southeast Asia. Angkor Wat literally means “Temple City” in Khmer. With its grand scale and intricate stone carvings, the temple is a silent and majestic reminder of a once so glorious Khmer empire. In 1992, UNESCO declared Angkor Wat as a World Heritage site.

30 DAYS IN CAMBODIA || Angkor Wat, Royal Palace, Phnom Kulen Waterfall, Pub Street, Siem Reap
We decided to bring in the New Years in now one of our favorite countries in the whole world. Like all other countries we travel to we spent 30 days in Cambodia!!!
.
Cambodia is a beautiful country with rich history and culture, and is most famous for housing the Angkor Wat, the largest religious complex in the world.
.
Cambodia is a small country located in the Indochina Peninsula's southern portion in Southeast Asia. The country is bordered by Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos. It also has a coastline along the Gulf of Thailand to the southwest.
.
Cambodia has a well- developed tourism industry as tourism is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The country has a rich and inspiring history evident by the presence of magnificent temples and other structures from the past empires that ruled the region. Cambodia is also famous for natural attractions and unique biodiversity.
.
Siem Reap, Preah Vihear Temple, Sihanoukville, Tonle Sap, Silver Pagoda, Boker Hill Station, Kratie, Koh ker, Banteay Srei, and Angkor Wat
Cambodia - How to travel around? Angkor Wat, Phnom penh to Koh Rong.
Cambodia
Cambodia is an amazing country. But of course we heard different stories: some travelers told us Cambodians are the friendliest people ever! We also heard they are impolite and annoying. So like always – the best way is to find it out yourself: We loved the country and the people, they were really kind.
General Information
To enter Cambodia you need to pay for the visa. This is not a big deal – visa on arrival costs about 30 USD (you have to pay in US-Dollars). When you arrive at the airport of Siem Reap you will even find an ATM next to the immigration desk (fee is 5 USD). And yes, US-Dollar is the main currency in Cambodia which is really strange, but you get used to it. They also use the currency called Riel, but most of the time they only use it as change. 1 USD corresponds to 4.000 Riel (So 1.000 Riel = 25 Cents).
What are the highlights of Cambodia?
In general Cambodia is an easy country to travel around and well connected. We haven’t seen much of the east of the country, so we cannot give you any advice about that. All places we visited we travelled by bus – we always went for the cheapest deals and it was always a save way to travel (regarding Southeast Asian standards, but we have experienced worse). Below you can find our route and highlights of Cambodia.
Siem Reap
If there is any must-see in Cambodia it’s Siem Reap and the temple of Ankor Wat. You need at least one or two days to visit this stunning temple complex. The city itself is quite touristy though, so to experience the real Cambodian lifestyle you either need to get out of the city or visit some other less frequented places of Cambodia. It is definitely worth it to hire some bikes or a scooter and get out of the city center for a while.
Battambang
That’s why we visited Battambang or Battambong – we wanted to see a ‘normal’ Cambodian city. Battambang is actually not that small, as it is the second biggest city of Cambodia. Of course there are also some tourist attractions you could visit (and especially Tuk Tuk drivers beg you to visit them):
-the bamboo train
-the killing cave
-the bad cave
-the circus
Koh Rong Samloem
Koh Rong is famous! People tell you the sand is white and the parties are wild. Jungle parties, drugs, loud music, so it is actually a little bit confusing, when you start your research about the Koh Rong islands. We read many reviews, talked to people and heard different stories. Some people say it is heaven on earth, on the other hand we heard the parties can be annoying and the beach is dirty. So at the end we didn’t go to Koh Rong, but to Koh Rong Samloem – the smaller island. Compared to the big one, it is relaxed, calm and clean – but no parties (for everyone who is into parties)! Here you can find your inner peace and even the sea is very calm.
Kampot
Kampot is another great city to experience the relaxed Cambodian lifestyle. You will meet many expats over here as well. One of the highlights is to visit the salt and pepper field. You can book a tuk tuk tour or just hire a bike and go there. On the way you will drive through smaller, poorer villages, but the people are so happy to see you.
Phnom Penh
The capital of Cambodia is huge – this is probably also the reason why many people told us they don’t like Phnom Penh. “It’s dirty and dangerous”. But that’s not true! If you visit the right spots and if you stay at right places, the city is actually quite nice. The Indepence Monument looks great as well as the Royal Palace. Every now and then, when you walk through Phnom Penh you see some nice squares, statues or buildings. It is also the place where you can learn about the sad history of Cambodia – the Khmer Rouge. The Khmer Rouge killed more than a third of the population of Cambodia – also many women and children. It is very hard to understand how this could happen. When you do a Tuk Tuk tour you can visit the Toul sleng Museum and killing fields. Start with the museum on day one. Don’t do both on one day as it is very hard to digest. Our Advice: Read the book ‘First they killed my father’ by Loung Ung.

Cambodia / A Traveling Man Travel Guide
What's up everybody I am the traveling man REV D and I am back today to talk to you about Cambodia. We’re going to be going on a virtual tour of sorts as we travel through the 5 major cities of Cambodia with some awesome visuals I’ve shot myself. Some of the things that you're going to see in Cambodia are Angkor Wat, Bokor mountain, the Russian market and the waterfront district. Major cities like Phnom Penh (the political capital) and Siem Reap which is like the tourist capital. There is also Kampot, Sihanoukville, and Battambang. I've lived in three of them and I want to be able to share so much of my experience with you, but right now I'm we're gonna do a quick overview of the country.
First let’s talk about transportation. We have to deal with getting in and out of the country and the easiest way for a traveler is probably by bus. So if you're in Laos, Thailand, or Vietnam, I suggest the fastest way into the country would probably be by bus and busses are always available to take you in and out of major cities including Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. You can of course also fly into the country as there are international airports at both Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. I will however warn you that there is less air traffic coming in and out of Cambodia And so air travel into and out of Cambodia does tend to cost a little more. Also I wanted to mention travel by Boat. If you like the idea of a water taxi, boats are available to get on the boat and take the boat up to Battambang or Siem Reap and those boat stations there will also take you all the way back so if you're ever in Siem Reap it is possible to go visit Battambang for the day which is a more local area that has a lot of really great artifacts. That avenue was available to you and I suggested you at least take a boat down the river to see the floating market. Probably one of the most important types of transportation in Cambodia would be The tuk-tuk and is basically a modern adaptation of an old cart and horse. Basically you have the motorbike in front and you have a two wheeled carriage in the back. It fits two or four people in these tuk-tuks and off you go.
Keep in mind while you’re in Cambodia the first and most important thing you can do is visit the Angkor Complex. Angkor Wat and the other temples at the Angkor Complex are some of the most stunning on earth. Siem Reap is just outside the front gate and park admission costs about $40 USD per day, or about $80 USD for the week. Very worth the money as a ticket to Disneyland is about $100 a day and this is of course, one of the greatest sites in the entire ancient world.
Also, when you travel to Cambodia, there are always high priced tours of Angkor Wat available. I promise you, a tuk tuk cost about $20 a day, and the drives will give you as good a tour as any. They drop you off and pick you up from any and all temples leaving you free to wander the structure until you’re finished. So for $20 and the price of admission you can have a tour as good as any.
Don’t forget to like comment and subscribe to my videos! I’ll be doing one for every country I’ve lived in and all the cities I spent time in as well. If you think I should add something, make sure you leave a comment in the comment section below.

Prek Toal Homestay - Siem Reap in Cambodia
One of the most fun projects Lolei Travel has done this year was taking a group of 35 spiritual followers to a floating village called Prek Toal for a homestay. Home-cooked meals, kayaking, bird-watching and a comfortable night at a local family's home was all it took to create the most memorable experience for both our guests and ourselves! Enjoy this superfun movie of this amazing experience!
