AZ DE SOL FOOD: Queen Creek Olive Mill Tour (Pt. 3)
Queen Creek Olive Mill (queencreekolivemill.com) is owned
by the Rea family. Perry Rea started this olive oil operation as a hobby and it wasn't long after he bottled some of it for a few friends that it quickly grew into a full-time agri-tourism business that includes a restaurant, specialty shop featuring local artisan cheeses, boutique wines, and a restaurant. Now, many high-profile Valley chefs and restaurants use his incredibly fresh olive oil in their
culinary creations. After trying a few samples for ourselves, I can see why the Mill's olive oil is so popular among chefs. It is truly the best tasting olive oil that I have ever tasted. After the tour, Lita, Mom and I checked out what was available in the store and were so impressed by the variety of olive oils available (as you'll see in the video) as well as the
assortment of boutique wines. Best part of all, everything was reasonably priced, including the wine, so it was easy to buy a lot. Our personal olive oil favorites are Meyer Lemon, Vanilla and Blood Orange, so far. We'll definitely go back to the Mill in the fall for the olive harvest to stock up for the holidays. In the meantime, we hope that you will check out Queen Creek Olive Mill and support this wonderful, local farming family. Namaste.

From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. Known as the Grand Canyon state, Arizona is diverse in many ways. The state tree is the Palo Verde, the state cactus is the Saguaro, the state bird is the Cactus wren. Great Food, Good Neighbors - Queen Creek Olive Mill - Episode 6
______________________
About the Show
Hosted by Lisa Acquafredda and Tray Goodman, Great Food, Good Neighbors or GFGN is an innovative, informative, and entertaining show supporting local businesses.
______________________
What is GFGN?
Great Food Good Neighbors, or GFGN, (gfgntv.com) is a series highlighting local restaurants and business in the state of Arizona. Unlike any other food show in the state of Arizona, GFGN is fast paced, takes you behind the scenes and into the kitchen to tell you why each location is known for their great food. Learn about each restaurant's history, signature dishes, involvement in the community and more! What's also unique is that GFGN is not limited to restaurants as we can showcase other business owners who are all about promoting local.
Why a Show About the Local Food and Community?
Well that's a given! Supporting locally owned businesses helps promote the local character and prosperity within a community. Local businesses build strong communities through social relationships. Compared to the chain stores and restaurants, local businesses recycle a much larger share of their revenue back into the local community. Locally owned businesses also create more jobs locally and can provide better wages.
With Phoenix, Arizona being the 6th largest city in the USA, why not showcase the amazing restaurants and businesses that make that possible? There are countless number of restaurants throughout the state of Arizona, and to be honest, that means more shows!

San Tan Historical Society Museum, Our Lady of Guadalupe, Schnepf Farms, First Baptist Church Of Queen Creek, Site of the Railroad Water Tank, Gold Mine, Mansel Carter and Marion Kennedy resting place, San Tan Mountain Regional Park and Arizona Boys Ranch.
Gold Mine - a short hike from south Ellsworth Road will take you to the entrance of what used to be a 200 foot tunnel, now sealed for safety.
Mansel Carter - came to the Queen Creek area in 1948 with his prospecting buddy, Marion Kennedy. They set up camp about 5 miles south of town in what is currently san tan mountain regional park. They never struck it rich, but they lived the life they wanted.
Arizona Boys Ranch grow out of the conviction that homeless boys should have an opportunity of home, school, and community regardless of race, color, or creed.
Schnepf Farms - Located five miles southeast of town, the area was purchased by Jack and Maude Schnepf in 1941. Their oldest son Raymond and his wife Thora were newly married, and they moved to what was called the home place while the rest of the family continued to live in Mesa.
First Baptist church of Queen Creek - The church located on Ocotillo Road east of Ellsworth Road, built in 1946 through a community effort.

Our Lady of Guadalupe - The first Catholic Church building in Queen Creek is located on the north side of Ocotillo, 3/8 mile west of Ellsworth Road. It's the two narrow stained glass windows that may have first attracted your attention as you passed by the weathered building across from Our Lady of Guadalupe in recent years.

H.E.R.O. RIGHT TO MARRY WALK :ARIZONA 2010
H.E.R.O. RIGHT TO MARRY WALK :ARIZONA
The Right to Marry Campaign uses the framework of pilgrimage for its outreach. Each summer a group of core Equality Walkers walk a mile for every year Arizona has been a state without full legal recognition of its LGBT citizens. The Equality Walkers utilize these miles to speak to police, city managers, faith communities, elected officials and individuals in diverse districts.
Our goal is to carefully and collectively examine the intersection wherein scripture and social norms meet gender and human sexuality. And more practically, we hope to share and gain insights about how related policies and doctrines impact the lives of everyone in a community. These conversations are undeniably essential in creating a safe environment for all citizens of Arizona.
In 2008 the Equality Walkers completed 96 miles through western Maricopa County, in order to raise awareness about Proposition 102, and in 2009 the Equality Walkers completed 97 miles through eastern Maricopa County focusing their outreach to diverse faith communities. In 2010 the Equality Walkers completed 98 miles through Northern Arizona walking through some of the most rural cities in the State and putting faces and stories to the issue of Marriage Equality.
In August 2011 while most people in Arizona are spending the summer relaxing in the pool or paying high AC bills trying to keep cool-the equality walkers will be spending the hottest month of the year traversing Southern Arizona on foot. They will walk through 18 cities and 9 counties as they bring their message of love and acceptance to police, city mangers, faith communities, elected officials and individuals in diverse districts.
The cities for the 2011 Right to Marry: Arizona campaign are, Parker, Yuma, Casa Grande, Arizona City, Eloy, Tucson, Nogalas, Sierra Vista, Bisbee, Tombstone, Safford, Thatcher, Pima, Clifton, Duncan, Florence, Queen Creek and Phoenix.
So please consider donating to the 2011 Right to Marry: Arizona, so that we can further our message of marriage equality for all of Arizona Citizens.
