Merzouga and the Erg Chebbi
#ergchebbi #morocco #desert
South-west Morocco.
Merzouga is a little village just on the border of Sahara desert. It is an ideal location to stay before leaving for a tour in the Erg Chebbi.
Starting from Merzouga you are 52 days far from Tombouctou, in the middle of western Sahara!
Several hotels and resorts, restaurants and small shops and some tour operators to plan your excursion, Merzouga offers everything you may need to visit the countryside.
Moreover, the town is an out of time place with its silent roads and lonely palmeraie, passing over it means forgetting civilization and ride in the unknown.
The Erg Chebbi is a perfect Sahara location with its orange sands and dune landscapes. Try at least a one day trip with overnight in a tent camp to taste the vibes of the desert.
Riding a camel, in the silence only broken by the wind, with all those beautiful orange dunes around you, is an experience you should try once in your lifetime.
Sahara, of course, is all to come in front of you and the trip to Tombouctou is a different story and challenge, but a little bit of desert is better than nothing.
Anyway, sunset and sunrise will be unforgettable.
Let me thank all those wonderful Berbers people we met there. They gave us a great sample of their legendary hospitality, we won't forget.
As I'm sure I won't forget the crazy camel I had to ride and all the efforts it made to buck me off!

Filmed with Olympus Om-D EM5 MKII and Eken H8R coupled with Zhiyun Evolution gimbal. Photos shot with Nikon D3100. Cyberlink PowerDirector 15 for post-production and editing.

2019 Morocco Family Trip vlog - Marrakech to Erg Chebbi
In March 2019 we traveled to Morocco for a 9 day family trip. This was our first time experiencing Arabic and Berber culture. We enjoyed shopping in the souks, hiking the incredible landscapes, riding the camels and visiting the magical desert. Watch in HD!
We started out in Marrakech, before driving through the Atlas Mountains to Ait Ben Haddou. We spent a night inside at Kasbah Tebi, with no electricity. We continued on to the Todgha Gorge (or Todra Gorge, as it's also known), where we completed a via ferrata route and enjoyed the hospitality of Auberge le Festival. From there, we drove to Merzouga and headed out into the sand dunes of Erg Chebbi for 2 nights at Desert Luxury Camp. We returned to Marrakech along a similar route, this time visiting the Dades Gorge and the beautiful Monkey Fingers Canyon. Our last stop before reaching the city was in Tisseldey at Irocha. Back in Marrakech, we ate camel burgers at Cafe Clock, visited the Koutoubia Mosque and Ensemble Artisanal, got henna tattoos at the Henna Art Cafe, and enjoyed the souks and Jemaa el Fna one last time before heading home.
Filmed on Canon 77D, Hero 7 Black, and iPhone 6.

Taking a Camel Ride in the Moroccan Erg Chebbi Desert
Taking a Camel Ride in the Moroccan Erg Chebbi Desert was my long term dream and it came true in September 2017 when I went on a camel tour of the sandy dunes with some berber guides.
I was staying in Hassi Labied in the South of Morocco, a very small town near the Erg Chebbi sand dunes.
You will find Riad Aicha, probably the best bed and breakfast in Morocco in Hassi Labied, where I spent two nights during my Moroccan Road Trip from Fes to Merzouga.
Most people stay in Merzouga just next door, but the two places basically offer the same things and Hassi Labied is much more tranquil.
Both are next to the dunes and are well connected to nearby Erfoud. The difference is that Hassi Labied is far quieter and people don't pester tourists.
It was on my fifth day in Morocco that I arrived in Hassi Labied and by then I was so tired of people trying to sell me things that I didn't want to speak to anyone.
I've written a detailed article about my trip to Hassi Labied and the Erg Chebbi sand dunes, you can read that post here:

Why go to Morocco if you're not going to see the Sahara Desert?
The best place to see the dunes is the Erg Chebbi Dunes tour.
The tour has you riding a camel, catching the sunset in the dunes, sleep in a berber tent, enjoying a traditional Moroccan dinner, fireside berber music and riding a camel again in the morning while you see the sun rising over the dunes!
Oh and don't forget to look at the stars!

RANDONNÉE À DOS DE DROMADAIRE - DUNES DE MERZOUGA (ERG CHEBBI) - MAROC - PART. 1
Randonnée à dos de dromadaire - Dunes de Merzouga (Erg Chebbi) - Maroc - Part. 1
