According to UNESCO: The city has the best-preserved, least altered historic centre in Latin America.... The 'Baroque school of Quito'...is a fusion of Spanish, Italian, Moorish, Flemish and indigenous art.

Quito (Ecuador) Vacation Travel Video Guide

In Quito, Ecuador, La Basilica is situated on one of the city’s northern hills and is one of Quito’s earliest religious buildings. Its construction began in 1892 and, a hundred years later, it was consecrated by the Pope. The tradition of mediaeval glass painting was used for the basilica’s large colourful windows. The building is an architectural symbol of an autocratic Catholic church which dominated the country until the Liberal Revolution of 1925. Quirto’s historic centre was built on the ruins of an Inca city and on the 6th December, 1536, Quito became re-established. When Spanish conquistador, Sebastian De Benalcazar, invaded, the Incas destroyed their settlement. Thus everything had to be re-built. The Plaza Grande, the heart of the old town, originated at that time and it was in this square that the county’s history unfolded from its foundation right up until its Independence. The former capital of the northern Inca realm became the most Spanish city of the New World and today, churches, monasteries and squares continue to gleam in their colonial splendour. The remarkable legacy of a rich and dramatic past!

Traveling is embedded into our relationship as we met on a Spring Break cruise in 2016. Since then, we haven't stopped traveling together in the United States and abroad. We left New York in July 2019 to travel the world and we took work with us. We have made it our mission to slow travel for 16 months throughout South America and Asia.
Traveling Atlas was created to capture our moments of taking risk, building connections, and seeing the world. We will be staying in each country we visit for about a month in order to experience cultures to our maximum capacity and to inspire others that they can do the same. JW Marriott hotel is located in Pradera area on Avenue Rio Amazonas. Close to shops, a market with local crafts as well as restaurants and shopping centers.
The hotel is about 5 km north of the historic old part of Quito.
The hotel has a total of 257 rooms spread over 11 floors. It features a heated pool, surrounded by palm trees and a spa and 5 restaurants.

The Pichincha Volcano was once the setting of a historic battle that resulted in Quito’s liberation from Spain. But it’s the Cotopaxi Volcano, that is the Quito’s most famous landmark. While in the area, you can’t miss the Mitad del Mundo Monument and the Intiñan Solar Museum where you walk the line of the equator and be in two hemispheres at the same time.
