A water rail seen at RSPB Leighton Moss nature reserve in Silverdale in January 2010 when most of the water was frozen. Wonderful to see this one for so long. There was several others running around the area at the same time-though they were a bit harder to catch on video!

Trip to RSPB Leighton Moss - Bearded Tit & Starling Murmuration
Leighton Moss RSPB reserve is a nature reserve in Lancashire, England, which has been in the care of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds since 1964. It is situated at Silverdale near Carnforth, on the edge of Morecambe Bay and in the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
RSPB Leighton Moss is approximately 60miles north of Liverpool and takes 90 minutes to get there.

The booming bitterns of Leighton Moss (RSPB)
The Bittern has a strange haunting booming call. One of the few places in Britain where its call can still be heard is at the RSPB Leighton Moss Reserve in Lancashire. In this short oral history excerpt local farmers recall the Bittern before the RSPB took over the site, and John Wilson, the 1st RSPB Warden at Leighton Moss, recalls their early success.

iPLANit Kids - Leighton Moss Bird Reserve visit
A new educational and environmental initiative to support young people in its local community has been launched by a Wirral based company.
West Cheshire Facilities Management, which provides integrated services throughout North West of England, has created iPLANit KIDS, an organisation aimed at educating young people about Environmental topics and what can be done to defend nature, to make the world a better place.

Silverdale Cove, Lancashire
Silverdale is a village and civil parish within the City of Lancaster in Lancashire, England. The village stands on Morecambe Bay, near the border with Cumbria, 4.5 miles (7 km) north west of Carnforth and 8.5 miles (14 km) north of Lancaster. The parish had a population of 1,545 recorded in the 2001 census, reducing slightly to 1,519 at the 2011 Census.
Silverdale forms part of the Arnside and Silverdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The RSPB's Leighton Moss nature reserve is close to the village. The National Trust owns several pieces of land in the area. The former Tarmac-owned Trowbarrow quarry is now a SSSI and popular climbing location. The Lancashire Coastal Way footpath goes from Silverdale to Freckleton, and the Cumbria Coastal Way goes from Silverdale to Gretna.
