Turoe Pet Farm - Children's Outdoor Activity Centre Galway
After getting lost at the beginning of the journey, we finally reached the Turoe Pet Farm - the place where children will have the most of fun while feeding the animals and playing in the monkey castle at the end.
If you are looking for fun things to do in Galway or what to do in Galway with the kids then Turoe Pet Farm and outdoor activity center located just outside Loughrea is one of our recommendations - it is an absolutely amazing place for the kids and here is why!
First of all this place is a petting farm - there are all sorts of animals from goats to alpacas, rabbits to sheep and even Shetland ponies. When you arrive the owner gives you a bag of animal feed and you can feed the animals as you go around the farm. The animals are well spread it so it is a lovely walk around the farm at the same time. The farm animals are really tame and friendly and will eat out of the children's hands.
Secondly it is an outdoor activity centre too. There are massive play areas for the children with picnic benches and seats for the adults. There is an adventure playground as well as a football pitch and field.
There is also a cafe where we sat to take our breath and have something to eat and they have a massive indoor barn if you fancy having a picnic and the lovely Galway weather is not as good as you had planned :)
There is a soft play jungle area which is also indoors and great for the kids to expel some energy - there are slides, climbing frames, ball pits and it is really safe!
But for us the most amazing reason for visiting is the massive inflatable city - if you can imagine a massive bouncy castle - big enough to fill a huge barn - Turoe Pet Farm has it! I have never seen anything like it - three massive bouncy slides - bouncy houses, animals to jump on - it is an unbelievable inflatable world and all indoors. It is totally supervised and parents can look on while enjoying a cup of tea they even have a smaller jump-city for little ones. As you can see from the video we spent hours there; yes, we almost spent 6 hours in the whole place, moving between feeding the animals to eating and then ending it all with playing around in that castle which the kids got excited about - you have seen that already!
The entrance fee covers all of the above and there is no time limit - so great value and so much to do - you will need the whole day there and at the end of the farm you will also get across a wishing well which the kids will enjoy the idea of throwing coins in and making a wish (should be kept for themselves, lol).
This place is definitely one of the hidden gems in things to do in Galway and it's not just a kids farm it is so much more. So if you have some time in Galway it's well worth a visit! (
For those who might not know Galway, it is a city in the west of Ireland in the province of Connacht. Galway lies on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay and is surrounded by County Galway. The main reason why we even thought about Galway is that it is actually famous, it is considered the fourth most populous urban area in the Republic of Ireland and the sixth most famous city in the island of Ireland.
We have been talking about Turoe Pet Farm as one of the activities for kids in Galway, but since you are in this city, there are still some other attractions to view as an adult - although it will never be in the same day because as you have seen, you might end up being the last one to leave the place :-).
Galway attractions are different, you could come to visit the Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into Heaven and St. Nicolas which is known as a Renaissance-style Catholic Church, there is also the Eyre Square which is a popular square in the heart of the city and which children will also enjoy since there is a playground there, people could also visit the Galway Museum which carries documents, photography, and medieval artifacts, there is also the St. Nicolas Collegiate Church, among the amazing places found in this city there is the Dunguaire Castle which is a 16th century bay side fortress with literary history, and there are actually lots of things you could manage to do in Galway; it might not be as famous as Belfast ( or Dublin, but it is worth the visit.
It was actually an interesting trip - to be honest, we did enjoy the animals along with the kids :-) - even though it all started with being lost and eating ice cream while trying to locate ourselves on the map and find this pet farm which we are supposed to be visiting and ended up with the kids showered with sweat due to the amount of jumping, running, and climbing they have been doing inside this jungle that they discovered at the end of the trip after they got done with feeding the animals who they were building friendships with throughout the whole journey in the farm; but it was all worth it!
