73 ???? Wandering Around St. John's | Railway Coastal Museum (Part Two)
Wandering further into the Railway Coastal Museum of St. John's Newfoundland, I take a look at how the railway inter-related with the coastal ships of the Atlantic, the functions of the different rail cars on the Newfoundland Railway, and a little about how the railway played an important role in WW2. After this, I step through the gift shop to check out their model railway display.

Take a look at the former CNR Newfoundland Railway train station of St. John's that now houses a railway/maritime museum with old railway infrastructure surrounding it including a preserved General Motors NF-110 diesel electric locomotive (with a 1200 horsepower EMD 12-567 diesel prime mover), an old speeder car, and not part of the museum but shown in the video is the old Newfoundland Railway locomotive/train maintenance warehouse that still says Newfoundland Railway 1931 on the top of the building. This building is now used by NewDock for ship maintenance.

Model Train at Coastal Railway Museum in St. John's, NL
On our visit to St. John's we stopped at the Coastal Railway Museum. There are displays of the history of rail and ship in Newfoundland as well as a very cool model train display.
I love taking the train and know the passion model train builders feel. In this video I tracked the model train around the track with my camera. Toot Toot! Super exhibit!

The Smallest Town, With A Population Of Just Four With Two Streetlamps
If you've ever dreamed of living the quiet life, you'll no doubt be jealous of the residents of Tilt Cove, Canada.
This tiny town in Newfoundland and Labrador, on Canada's east coast, has a population of just four.
All four residents are part of the town's government, with the mayor Don Collins claiming there 'is a lot to do to keep it on the straight and narrow'.
Tilt Cove was once a thriving copper mining town, which boasted a population of 2,000 people.
However, the mine closed in 1967 following an accidental collapse, leaving most of the residents jobless - forcing them to leave town forever.
Today, Tilt Cove still has postal, rubbish collection and road maintenance services - as well as two streetlamps.
It also has a museum that houses pictures, letters and artifacts that detail the town's history. Named The Way We Were, the museum was built single-handed by Collins using local timber as a 40th birthday present for his wife.
Margaret Collin's family have been here since 1813. Her brother and his wife are the only other two residents in Tilt Cove.

Newfoundland Railway: Carbonear to St. John's, 1973
Regular passenger service in Newfoundland ended in 1969, but freight service continued until the railway was shut down in 1988. Occasionally, however, a mixed train (with passenger cars attached to the freight train) would run.
This amateur documentary, donated to the Railway Coastal Museum by Mike Smithson, features passengers boarding the train in Carbonear and riding to the station (now the Railway Coastal Museum) in St. John's. It was recorded in 1973 on super 8mm film by Mr. Smithson, Robert Smithson, and Brian Payton, along with one unknown camera man.
This clip is a 5 minute preview of the full 28 minute documentary.
