JAISALMER COMPLETE ITINERARY
DAY 1
Visit to the Jaisalmer Fort
• Patwon Ki Haweli
• Jain Temples
• Shopping in the bylanes for Rajasthani stuff
• Dinner at Rooftop Restaurant in any hotel inside the Fort
DAY 2
Visit to Gadisar Lake
Visit to Tanot Mata Mandir (It is 120 kms away from the city and a private taxi has to be hired)
Visit to the Indo-Pak Border (you have to seek special permission from the BSF to go there)/ Alternately you could go to the Longewala War memorial after Tanot Mata which doesn’t require permission. It is around 40kms from there.
DAY 3
Shopping at the Gopa Chowk.
Visit to the THAR desert
• Dune Bashing in open jeep at Sam Sandunes- Rs 1200
• Camel ride to watch Sunset in Desert- Rs 350
• Desert Safari Camps- Rs 4000 onwards (Evening performance, dinner, overnight stay and breakfast included in the package)
• Para Motor in the desert- Rs 3000
You can specially book and enjoy the famous Queen Harish show at the Desert Springs Camp at Sam Sand Dunes for Rs 1200-1500 which includes smacks, dinner and the cultural performance.

Jodhpur to Jaisalmer via Barmer | Rajasthan Tour
We took longer route from jodhpur and we enjoyed so much of local Rajasthani food on the way to Jaisalmer. It was a superb road trip form Jodhpur to Jaisalmer.
It was such a pleasant experience that we got opportunity to visit farm on our way and also enjoyed delicious kachori at Barmer.
This region of Barmer, Jaisalmer and some part of Bikaner comes under Malani region. We also got opportunity to explore Rajasthani Malani Thali at Barmer. This is part of Marwar region.

It was nice experience to stay in Dessert. Though cost of stay is high, There are 2 choices, either you can stay in dessert and feel it closely or you may want to stay in Jailmer and come to sam area which is about 1 hour distance in the evening. Do safari there on jeep or camel ride, enjoy cultural activity, have dinner and go back to Jaisalmer in the night.

Jaisalmer Sam Sand Dunes, Jodhpur and Udaipur | 7 days budget itinerary
7 Days trip to Rajasthan: We covered 3 colourful cities : Jaisalmer,Jodhpur and Udaipur.
It was a family trip planned during the Christmas week. December is a peak season and prices are usually on the higher side.
Since it was a budget trip, we chose Train and Bus as a mode of transport. We also booked the hotels in advance so that we get a better deal.
Sharing our complete 7 day itinerary:
We boarded our train - Bandra Jaisalmer express from Mumbai.There is only 1 train between Mumbai and Jaisalmer and it runs only on Fridays. So, plan you travel accordingly if you are travelling by train.
Day 1: We reached Jaisalmer at 1:00 PM and checked into our hotel Boomerang. After relaxing for some time, we went to explore the local Jaisalmer market and Food street near the fort.
Must try : Dhanraj Ranmal Bhatia sweet shop - Pyaaj ki kachori, Imarti, Ghewar and Ghotua are the standout dishes.
After munching on the tasty snacks, We went to the fort and enjoyed the amazing sunset.
For dinner we went to 1st gate hotel.This hotel has a roof top restaurant with a perfect fort view.
Day 2: We booked a Desert safari package from our hotel. It costed us Rs 2500 /- per person (a little on the higher side due to christmas) which includes personal to and fro transport between Hotel and Desert camp, Camel ride to desert camp, Jeep safari, Cultural night program and Rajashthani dinner.
Day 3 : On our final day in Jaisalmer, We explored Patwon ki haveli and Gadisar lake.
Day 4 : We boarded an early morning Jaisalmer-Jodhpur express train to Jodhpur. It took us 6-7 hours to reach Jodhpur. After relaxing a bit in our hotel, we took a rickshaw to visit Umaid Bhawan Palace.
This is a very beautiful palace turned 5 star hotel. One part of the palace is a museum and is open to public. Entry ticket - Rs 30 /- per person. Timing - 9 AM to 5 PM.
After visiting Umaid Bhawan, we went for shopping near clock tower and tried some local snacks.
Must try: Samosas, Mirchi vada, Chat and lassi at Shahi Samosa outlet very close to clock tower. Also, traditional clothes, home decors are very reasonable and prices are mostly fixed and non-negotiable at the shop.
other local attractions includes Mehrangarh fort, Jaswant Thada and both are about 2-3 Kms from Clock tower.
Day 5 : After spending one night in Jodhpur, we booked the early morning Rajasthan State Road Transport corporation (RSRTC) bus tickets for Udaipur. There are only few RSRTC AC buses for Udaipur however there is a non-AC RSRCT bus every 30 mins-1 hour.
Tickets for both AC and Non-AC can be booked online via bus ticketing app. We used Redbus.
It took us around 6 hours to reach Udaipur. We checked into our Hotel Minerwa Grand near lake Pichola.
Day 6 : We started early morning to explore the City Palace. Post which we took a boat ride in Lake Pichola and visited Jag Mandir Palace. It was a 30 min long boat ride where you will get to see panoramic view of city palace, Lake palace and Jag Mandir palace.
You will get 30 minutes to 1 hour at Jag Mandir palace where you can enjoy some snacks, lunch or have drinks at their restaurant.
Ticket charges:
City palace (limited excess around the palace) : 30 Rs/-
City palace Museum (entry inside the palace): 300 Rs /- ( No extra cost for camera)
Jag Mandir Palace Boat ride:
Morning boating: 450 Rs/- per adult, 230 rs /- children.
Sunset boating: 800 Rs/- per adult, 450 Rs /- childern.
After boat ride, we took a rickshaw for the rope way to Karni mata mandir. Rope way is about 1-2 Km from city palace.
From the top you can see the 360 degree view of Lake Pichola, Fateh Sagar lake and entire Udaipur town.
Ticket charges: 100 Rs/- plus taxes for adult.
Day 7 : This was the last day of our trip. We explored Bagore ki haveli and Ganguar ghat. Then we boarded our bus to Mumbai with lots of memories.

Food info:
1) Khad Lam (Slow Cooked Underground Lamb):
Khad lamb (means cooking lamb in a pit in the ground)
Earlier soldiers didn’t want to leave any trace of smoke so that they can hide hence discovered this way of cooking.
Earlier it was rabbit meat but now since it banned so we are cooking lamb.
Making of garam masala- Roast all the following ingredients and pound it together: green cardamom, black pepper, cloves, coriander seeds, black cardamom, turmeric, bay leaves and caramelized onion powder.
Basic marination- Make cuts on the leg of the lamb and put minced garlic with lots of freshly prepared garam masala.
Next for the paste-mix red chili powder, coriander powder, turmeric, salt and lots of ghee.
Add this paste to the basic marination with a base of rotis and banana leaves. Cover it with a wet jute sack so that it doesn’t burn as it needs to be in direct contact with the fire for 2 hours in the pit.
2) Junglee Mass (Wild meat)
Five Ingredients Recipe-
If hunting, you get stranded, these are easily available in any village
Red chilli powder, Ghee, Salt, Dal or lentil, Coriander seeds, Lamb pieces. In a wok, combine everything together till the meat is soft and tender.

What a beautiful start to the day with traditional style cooked Dal Baati churma, we explored local food of Jaisalmer at 4 different places, 4 different local food of Rajasthan.
Thereafter we went for Desert Safari on Jeep. It was such a thrilling experience to do Desert safari on jeep at Jaisalmer along with watching sun set view. End of the day we enjoyed Rajasthani cultural activity at the sam, which is at 40 km distance from Jaisalmer main town.

When you are Visiting Jaisalmer - Sam Desert, it is advisable to get a Pre-Booking done for your Stay from any of the Websites or through any other Resource, As when you reach the Sam Desert you will not get a chance to negotiate.
We had a great time at Jaisalmer, though it is a great experience to stay in sam over night. But if you want to control cost then a better idea is to stay at town and then travel 40 km distance to Sam.. go there in the evening time, enjoy camel ride and cultural activity. Usually this costs about Rs 1000 per person including dinner.
But all this is season dependent too. So you will have to check the details.
Taxi to and from from Jaisalmer town will cost you Rs 1000.

We spent 3 days in Jaisalmer exploring places to visit and Traditional food. This is Episode 1 of Jaisalmer food and travel journey.
We started our day from sam, where we stayed over night at the desert, went for camel ride , Jaisalmer Laungewala border visit and also had local food in Jaisalmer town Rajasthan.

Thar Desert Was the most exciting part of the trip. The place is known as SAM Sand Dunes which is 50kms from Jaisalmer city.
There in SAM Sand Dunes we went for Camel Safari, Jeep Safari, captured some breath taking shots from drone.
