Macy's-Grace-Wabasha Court, Saint Paul, Minnesota
In 2013, Mayor Chris Coleman created a downtown task force to understand the potential of key redevelopment sites including: 7 Corners Gateway, Macy's-Grace-Wabasha Court, Central Station, and Ramsey County Government Center West. The task force assembled a report, Prosper: Momentum is Building that outlines site planning scenarios for these four sites. Animations for each site were also created.

Bankruptcy Update I - Spring 2008
Minnetonka/Minneapolis lawyer David Kelly discusses recent New York Times article on subject of how the only real crisis in the banking industry is caused by the bankers themselves, not by the debtors, consumers or users of credit cards. This is the exact opposite of what the promoters of the 2005 bankruptcy reform legislation claimed. The abuse of credit is coming primarily from the banking industry, not from consumers.

Minnesota Voters Alliance is going to the U.S. Supreme Court!
Minnesota Voters Alliance and the United States Supreme Court
St. Paul, Minnesota – November 14, 2017
The United States Supreme Court will hear Minnesota Voters Alliance v. Mansky, it announced on Monday. The case stems from the 2010 election when the Minnesota Voters Alliance (MVA) and other groups formed a coalition aimed at detecting and preventing voter fraud. The group produced buttons with a phone number to report suspected voter fraud and to identify those wearing them as informed election observers.
Ramsey County elections manager Joe Mansky moved swiftly, using his position to attempt to stymie the efforts to assess election integrity. He issued a policy prohibiting the wearing of Tea Party apparel and other political buttons and apparel. That policy was later adopted by the Secretary of State’s office and other county election administrators.
“This was a brazen attempt to harass and deter voters with conservative and libertarian viewpoints, akin to what the IRS did in targeting conservative non-profit organizations at the same time,” said Andy Cilek, executive director of the Minnesota Voters Alliance. “They were opposed to our efforts to expose voter fraud and afraid of the impact that our coalition could have on the midterm elections, so they weaponized our election laws to attack us in the polling place.”
The group filed suit to halt the implementation of Mansky’s policy and after seven years of legal battles, the case has made it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court, where Minnesota’s overbroad law prohibiting political activity in polling places will be weighed against the First Amendment.
“The way the law was applied through the policies issued by Joe Mansky and the Secretary of State, anything – anything at all a voter was wearing could be interpreted as political by a subjective election judge,” explained MVA communications director Dan McGrath. “Wear a red dress? Looks Republican. Take it off, miss, or you could be prosecuted for voting. Wearing purple pants? Supports a new tax for the Vikings stadium. American flag pin? You get the idea. This led to harassment and intimidation in the polling place – not by people passively expressing a viewpoint with a button, but by partisan election judges leveling threats of prosecution and hefty fines at voters with certain apparent points of view.”
In 2010, both Cilek and McGrath found themselves among the numbers who faced hassles over what they wore when they tried to vote. Cilek, wearing a Tea Party Patriots T-shirt and a Please ID me button was blocked from voting for over five hours on that cold November day. McGrath was quickly handed a ballot, but was informed that his name was being forwarded to the county attorney for prosecution for voting while wearing his political button.
Wen Fa from the Pacific Legal Foundation, an attorney representing the MVA, “The restriction of voter apparel can be applied to anything that reflects personal values, even clothing or jewelry with a message that’s unrelated to anyone’s campaign. Such a limitless ban on personal expression is unconstitutional.”
