राराताल ( Rara Lake) नेपालको कर्णाली अञ्चलको मुगु जिल्लामा अवस्थित नेपालको सबैभन्दा ठूलो र प्रसिद्ध ताल हो । यो ताल समुद्र सतहदेखि २,९७२ मिटर उचाईंमा अवस्थित छ । जिल्लाको सदरमुकाम गमगढीबाट परिश्चम तर्फ करीब ३ घण्टाको पैदल यात्रा गरेपछि राराताल पुगिन्छ ।
१०.८ वर्ग किलोमिटर क्षेत्रफलमा फैलिएको रारा तालको अधिकतम लम्वाई ५ किलोमिटर र अधिकतम चौडाई ३.२ किलोमिटर छ भने गहिराई १६७ मिटर छ ।
प्रकृतिको उपहारको रूपमा श्रृजित राराताललाई रारा राष्ट्रिय निकुञ्जको मनोरम हरियाली यसमा पाइने कस्तुरी, रतुवा जस्ता जन्तुहरूका साथै नेपालको राष्ट्रिय चरा डाँफे र अन्य चरा चुरुङ्गीहरूले समेत थप शोभा पुर्याएका छन् ।
यसको वरिपरि विस्तारित राष्ट्रिय निकुञ्ज १०६ वर्ग किलोमिटर क्षेत्रफलमा फैलिएको छ ।
दिनभरीमा आफ्नो रुप फेरिरहने राराताल जेष्ठ देखि आश्विन महिना सम्म विभिन्न फुलहरूले सजिएर स्वर्गकी अप्सरा जस्तै देखिन्छ। रारातालको अर्को एक थप विशेषता के छ भने यस तालमा विश्वमा अन्यत्र कहि पनि नपाइने असला (हिमाली) माछा पाइन्छ। रारातालबाट करीब ३ घण्टाको पैदल यात्रा पश्चात् यसको पश्चिमतर्फ रहेको मुर्माटपमा पुग्न सकिन्छ । जहाँबाट रारातालको मनमोहक दृष्यका साथै सैपाल हिमालको श्रृङखलाको मनोरम अवलोकन गर्न सकिन्छ । यस तालमा सिस्ने हिमाल र कान्जिरोवा हिमालको मनोरम दृश्य देखिनाको साथै अन्यत्र कहीं नपाइने 'असला' जातको माछा पाइन्छ। राजा महेन्द्र शाहले २०२० सालमा यस क्षेत्रको भ्रमण गरेपछि पहिलेका दिनहरूमा रारा दह भनेर चिनिंदै आएको यस तालको नाम महेन्द्र ताल राखेका थिए ।

26 SEPTEMBER, THE DAY WE LEFT KATHMANDU FOR RARA. IT WAS 6 AM WHEN WE STARTED FROM MY HOME. WE DID STOP BY THE ROAD AND WASTED HOURS AND HOURS AND IN THE MEAN TIME LUMBINI CLICKED OUR MIND WIHCH WAS NOT VERY FAR FROM THE ROUT WE WERE TAKING. SO WE VISITED LUMBINI AS WELL.
WE LEFT LUMBINI ON THE SAME DAY AT 10 PM FOR NEPALGUNJ AND HAD A GREAT RIDING EXPERIENCE THE WHOLE NIGHT AND HAD TO STOP WHEN ONE OF OUR BIKES GOT PUNCTURED.
NEXT DAY MY BIKE GOT PUNCTURED ON THE WAY TO RARA AND I HAD TO PUSH IT FOR 8 KMS WHICH WAS NOT EASY... AND AGAIN ON THE SAME DAY MY HIMALAYAN BIKE SHOWED BURNT MAGNETIC COIL PROBLEM WHICH IS ONE OF THE MAJOR PROBLEM OF ROYAL ENFIELD HIMALAYAN.... SO THIS IS HOW WE STRUGGLED AND REACHED TALCHA AIRPORT AND WALKED TO EXPLORE RARA LAKE...

Climate
Summer is quite pleasant but winter is cold. The best visiting time to the lake is September/October and April to May. From December to March, the temperatures go low below the freezing point, and heavy snowfall occur up to one meter, blocking the way to the lake. April to June is warm in this region.
Monsoon season, which in this region occurs between the months of July to October, is short. The average rainfall during the ten-year period 1994–2003 was 800 mm. The surface temperature of the lake was found to be 7.5 °C to 7.6 °C and was visible below 14 m to 15 m.
Plant and animal life
Rara Lake, being surrounded by Rara National Park, has unique floral and faunal importance with rare and vulnerable species. The park was established in 1976 to preserve the beauty of the lake and protect it from sedimentation and adverse human activities. The Park flora consists of 1074 species, of which 16 are endemic to Nepal; the fauna includes 51 species of mammals and 214 species of birds.
Transport
Air is the only mode of transportation for the tourists visiting the Rara Lake. Rara Lake is served by Talcha Airport, which is 4 km east of the lake. Nepal Airlines and Tara Air operate flights to Rara from Nepalgunj. It takes approx 2 hours to reach Rara Lake from the airport on foot.
Tourism
Rara lake has been a popular destination with a very rough route in Western Nepal for trekkers. The glimpses of culture and scenery on the way is quite different from the rest of Nepal. Situated in high altitude, you can find the lake surrounded by Rara National Park with pine, spruce and juniper forest. The view of snow-capped Himalayan peaks enhance the attraction of trekkers. The trek begins with flight to Jumla (over an hour flight from Kathmandu) or from nearer Nepalgunj. Going along the mountain path and some villages one can reach the bank of Rara lake.

The journey start from achham to kalikot (Ragma) and second day start from Ragma and we have our lunch at Nagma and the road is seperated from Nagma bridge Jumla bazaar and Rara Lake. The way of Rara Lake from Nagma is quite difficult with dust and dirt. The Jumla is so beautiful because of the beauty of nature along small wooden bridge which is made traditional. Army check post of Jumla divide two district ( Jumla & Mugu). After riding three hours we can easily reach Rara Lake.
