KAWAH RATU, JAVA, INDONESIA - A JUNGLE HIKE TO QUEEN CRATER - VLOG#10 //
In this vlog, we decide to team up with some other travellers at our hostel in Bogor and do a tour to Kawah Ratu, also known as Queen Crater. Our day starts early where we ride in a van for a couple hours until we reach Halimun Salak National Park. Equipped with two guides and walking sticks, we all head into the jungle. A 2-hour interesting hike takes us through streams and muddy trails. When we finally reach the Kawah Ratu it is an incredible sight to see. We spend some time exploring the otherworldly atmosphere on the crater floor and are shown a mysterious Black River. After, we head back into the jungle and work our way to where we started. We finish the day at a gorgeous local waterfall to cool off.

Gunung Salak is a volcano lying south of the beautiful city of Bogor, south of Jakarta, West Java, Indonesia. It lies within the large Halimun-Salak National Park. It has two craters at the summit, several satellite cones, and the active crater of Kawah Ratu (Queen Crater) on its western slope. The active crater of Kawah Ratu was where I was headed. It was a really hard climb to an elevation of about 7,000 feet, wading up many mountain streams. But the view at the top was really worth the effort. Carrying my drone with me, I had the good fortune to take drone footage of this volcano as well.

Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun Salak merupakan tempat rekreasi/pariwisata alam yang sangat menarik, karena beragamnya obyek dan daya tarik wisata alam yang dimilikinya. Suasana alami dengan suara kicauan burung dan suara satwa lainnya, merupakan tempat yang ideal untuk pengamatan hidupan liar. Taman nasional ini memiliki fasilitas canopy trail yaitu sarana untuk berjalan dari tajuk pohon ke tajuk pohon yang lain , mengamati kehidupan burung dan satwa liar lainnya. Keindahan alam dengan kehidupan liar, gemuruh air terjun dan gemericik aliran sungai kecil yang jernih; kesemuanya merupakan fenomena alam yang dapat memberi pengalaman yang mungkin tidak akan terlupakan, terutama bagi wisatawan dari kota-kota besar. Beberapa lokasi/obyek yang menarik untuk dikunjungi:
1. Curug Cimantaja, Curug Piit, Curug Cipamulaan, Curug Cihanyawar, Curug Citangkolo. (menjelajahi hutan, pengamatan tumbuhan dan satwa).
2. Sungai Citarik (Arung jeram).
3. Cikaniki dan Citalahab (Berkemah, atraksi canopy trail dan pengamatan tumbuhan/satwa).
4. Candi Cibedug. Candi tua berukuran kecil dari zaman megalitik dapat dilihat 8 km dari Desa Citorek.
5. Gunung Halimun (± 1.929 m. dpl), Gunung Sanggabuana (± 1.919 m. dpl); Penjelajahan dan pendakian gunung).
6. Obyek wisata lainnya berada di pintu masuk utama Cipeuteuy berupa Perkebunan Teh Nirmala.
7. Atraksi budaya di sekitar taman nasional berupa upacara Seren Tahun pada bulan Juli. Upacara tersebut diselenggarakan di Kasepuhan Banten Kidul dengan pagelaran kesenian tradisional, mulai dari kesenian yang sudah langka seperti debus, musik angklung besar sampai kesenian khas Sunda lainnya.
Musim kunjungan terbaik: bulan Juni sampai dengan Agustus. Cara mencapai lokasi TN Gunung Halimun-Salak terletak tidak jauh dari beberapa kota yang relatif besar, yaitu Bogor, Sukabumi dan Lebak.
Rute perjalanan menuju kantor Pengelola yaitu ; Parungkuda - Kabandungan (kantor TN Gunung Halimun-Salak) berjarak 30 km dengan kondisi jalan cukup baik (jalan beraspal). Namun terdapat juga enam jalan masuk ke kawasan TN Gunung Halimun-Salak dengan kondisi jalan yang sangat bervariasi, yaitu ; dapat menggunakan kendaraan roda empat, roda dua sampai hanya dapat dilalui dengan berjalan kaki.
