Red Rock Canyon Open Space
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia:
Red Rock Canyon Open Space is a 789-acre city park in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is situated on the west side of the city, adjacent to Manitou Springs and south of U.S. Route 24. The park consists of a series of parallel ridges (called hogbacks) and eroded canyons, a continuation of the same sandstone rocks of the Fountain Formation that make up Garden of the Gods a few miles to the north.
Rather than being pristine conservation land, the park contains a number of reclaimed former industrial sites, including quarries, gravel pits, a gold refining mill, and a 53-acre landfill. The land parcels were purchased piecemeal by John George Bock in the 1920s and 1930s, and acquired by the city of Colorado Springs in 2003 for use as a recreational site. Today the most visible scars from past exploitation of the land are the remains of the Kenmuir Quarry, which produced Lyons sandstone in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and the Gypsum canyon landfill, which operated from 1970-1986 and remains off-limits to park visitors.
The park contains many miles of trails of varying difficulty that wind through and around the rock formations, and is popular with hikers, joggers, and mountain bikers. The park trails connect to the Intemann trail to Manitou Springs and the Section 16 conservation area to the south. Technical rock climbing is allowed with a permit.

Mountain Biking at Red Rock Canyon Open Space across from Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs, CO.
Bought a $50 Mongoose XR75 from some middle aged couple off of Craigslist and went riding at the professional mountain biking trails here in Colorado Springs. They have the C trail which is a series of 4 jumps, which is the most impressive and difficult trail in the park. There is miles of trails and acres of land, going all the way up into the mountains, making for literally days of riding and exploring.

Terrace Cayon in Red Rock Canyon - Las Vegas Nevada
Terrace Canyon is hardly traveled to, but is is a magical and peaceful place made so by great sights and the sounds of falling water. And part of the magic is due to the rarity of the moving water, which is found in the Spring with the snow melt. While I missed the peak water flow, this is still a magical place beaming with wildlife. Enjoy this great hike to Terrace Canyon!

Red Rock Canyon (USA) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Red Rock Canyon in The USA.
Around thirty minutes drive from the hustle and bustle of the gambling paradise of Las Vegas is the fascinating landscape of Red Rock Canyon. Red Rock Canyon is part of the huge Mojave Desert that extends south from California and Nevada , to Arizona. Several huge tectonic plates once collided along the Keystone Thrust Fault and this resulted in many layers of rock being piled up one on top of the other. Today these rocks are closely associated with the legendary Wild West of old and a land full of adventure and romance. Those less inclined to walk can travel by car on a twenty kilometre long scenic route that provides some remarkable views of the canyon and there are several good vantage points from which the full spectacle of this amazing area can be enjoyed. The exact significance that the red rocks of this region once had for the ancient peoples of North America will probably never be known. But one thing is for certain: Man will continue to be intrigued by the awe-inspiring splendour of this fantastic canyon.

Red Rock Canyon's Visitor Center and White Rock Trailhead in Las Vegas, Nevada
I haven't made one of these long destination reviews in a while. Please let me know what you think of the format in the comments so I can make improvements in the future.
Red Rock Canyon has a really nifty visitor center. Getting into the 13-mile scenic loop drive with your vehicle costs $7 for a day pass. There are many hiking trails you can take; I took a random one called White Rock Trailhead. I could have taken the Pine Creek Canyon trailhead towards the end as a safer bet to see more wildlife but I had only one day to go hiking on this Las Vegas trip and this was the path of randomness I chose.
