Sedona & Red Rock State Park, Arizona
02-09-2015 Produced by Erick F Dircks
Off to Red Rock State Park, via Sedona, and other fun spots along the way. Met many people at the Red Rock Ranger Station. They told us where we could go to capture the most beauty in the time we allowed ourselves. It was a very long & rewarding day, and rewarded ourselves to Hog Wild barbecue, where you could Eat In or Pig Out. We ate in, but Pig Out anyway! Back to camp we go. Have everything ready for our train ride, all cameras, camcorders, and GoPro all charged! We all are ready for our last fun adventure after our four night stay at Dead Horse Ranch State Park. Not only was Dead Horse Ranch beautiful, it is right in the middle of everything around Sedona, AZ. We kept very busy the 4 days we were here, with the 5th day ahead of us!

Secret Canyon - Sedona, AZ - Trail Guide to backpacking in the Secret Canyon Wilderness
Secret Canyon - Sedona, AZ
Here's a trail guide to backpack the Secret Canyon Trail, located in the Secret Canyon Wilderness of Sedona, AZ. Secret Canyon is a remote and lightly trafficked out and back hike. It can be done as a day hike or an overnight. It features an arch, waterfall, pine trees and amazing views that Sedona is known for, only without all the people. The long and rough road to access the trailhead is a deterrent for many. You can walk down it to the trailhead, but it's a miserably 7 mile (total) slog with full sun exposure, jeep traffic and lots of ups and downs. However, if you can get there, Secret Canyon is a great hike that offers all the good parts of Sedona only with more solitude.

Vanessa Hudgens under investigation for allegedly defacing Sedona Red Rocks
Grease: Live! star Vanessa Hudgens and model/actor boyfriend Austin Butler are in a bit of hot water after a romantic Valentine's Day weekend in Sedona, Arizona.
Hudgens, who came to fame starring in Disney's 2006 hit, High School Musical, posted an Instagram picture of the love birds' names carved into the rock surrounded by a heart. (The post has since been removed.)
There's just one problem: The carving may be located in the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest, and it's against federal law to damage any natural feature or other property of the United States, according to a statement issued by Brady Smith, a Coconino National Forest spokesman.
The maximum fine is $5,000 and/or six months in jail.
It's hard for federal officials to catch people in the act, but posting it to Instagram is what may get Hudgens in trouble.
On Monday, Feb.15, we became aware -- via media and public reports -- of an Instagram posting by Vanessa Hudgens showing a scratching or carving of a heart with two names in it on a rock that allegedly is on the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest, Smith said in the statement.
Smith declined to comment more on the specific incident until the Forest Service Law Enforcement investigation is completed.
I can say that the issue of people carving their names and other things in rocks in the Sedona and surrounding area is always a challenge we face, and (we) try to inform people about its destructive nature. he said.
We have found that when one person carves something, it encourages others to carve, Smith said. Carving of any kind affects the natural beauty of the area.
Even if the feds don't punish her, people are already smacking Hudgens around on social media.
Many Arizonans work really hard to preserve the land and to keep the state a nice one, Instagram member _jamie_jeffries_ posted on Hudgen's Instagram account. Plus it's just rude to go to someone's home and vandalize it. Just disrespectful to those of us who actually value our state.
What moron would graffiti on Sedona's red rocks?! I hope Vanessa Hudgens is punished for carving on one of the most spectacular places in AZ, posted Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain.

Vanessa Hudgens and Her Boyfriend Desecrated a Rock in Arizona
Vanessa Hudgens and Her Boyfriend Desecrated a Rock in Arizona
First it was Justin Bieber enraging the ancient Mexican gods, and now Vanessa Hudgens, one of our greatest practitioners of high-school musicals, has gone and desecrated one of the mystical rocks in Sedona, Arizona. Vanessa! No!!
TMZ, fearsome chronicler of our age, first brought this story to the world’s attention. It seems that Hudgens and her boyfriend, chronicler of Shannara Austin Butler, were visiting Sedona over the Valentine’s Day weekend, posting Instagram photos as young couples do, and in one photo (which seems to have been deleted) it appears that Hudgens and Butler have, with the strength of two well-toned actors, carved their very names upon the red rock. This is a grave no-no.
The authorities in the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest espied the picture and are now investigating. If found responsible, Hudgens and Butler could face a $5,000 fine and six months in prison, according to TMZ. Granted it’s a Sedona prison, so the bars are made of old dreamcatchers and you get served organic grains for every meal, but still! It’s not a high school and there is no music, so I don’t know what the heck Vanessa Hudgens would do in there. And, y’know, Sedona is a far cry from Shannara, so Butler would be screwed.
Though, actually, in some ways, Sedona is not that far a cry from Shannara. Sedona is strange and mystical, just like the land on the show. Which is exactly why Hudgens and Butler, better known by their celebrity-couple portmanteau, Budgens, shouldn’t have been carving things in the dang rocks! Why would you want to mess with forces beyond your comprehension like that? Sedona is full of such wonders, vortexes and strange energies and whatnot. There are more magic crystals per capita in Sedona than there are anywhere else in the world. I’m guessing, anyway.
You might think of Sedona as merely the place where your weird Aunt Rita moved after she got divorced, but it is not just that. I mean, it is that, for sure. It is definitely a lot of weird aunts drinking lukewarm rosé wine on small decks, looking out at the red rocks and wondering. For sure it’s that! And if the place was only that, then fine, carve away into whatever dumb rock you want. But those aunts have tapped into an ancient power there, some primal energy native to the place. And when that happens . . . Well, let’s just say your ex-uncle Dwayne’s A.T.V. accident was maybe not exactly an accident, O.K.?
So, hopefully Budgens will come out of this thing all right. They carved their names in that rock out of love, not out of malice. The spirits, and aunts, and spirit-aunts of Sedona will take that into consideration before they mete out their cosmic justice. As for the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest, well those guys are mostly harmless. They just want people to learn their lessons about respecting rocks, red or otherwise, so probably all this press attention is enough for them.
If Budgens was smart, if they really wanted to make amends for this, they’d schedule a meeting with both the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest and the area aunts, maybe slyly getting some kind of mixer going in the process. Vanessa and Austin could then find a time to slip out, back to L.A., just as the rum and Coke Zeros start flowing. And the Red Rock Rangers could whoop it up with the ladies of the canyons well into the night, the stars twinkling deep and bright in the desert sky, the astral winds swirling, the coyotes howling out their mournful wishes. Just as it’s meant to be in that sacred place, far from anywhere else, humming with the souls of all who’ve found themselves there, for whatever lonely and wonderful reason that may be.
Harvest Coconino National Forest Saplings with a Wilding Permit.
Starting Saturday, the Coconino National Forest will start selling wilding permits. Wilding permits allow people to go into certain parts of the Coconino National Forest and harvest saplings to be transplanted to their homes.
NAZ Today spoke with Brady Smith of the Coconino National Forest department for more information on the permits. Mr. Smith says that the best results come from saplings 4 feet and under. And just about every sapling can be collected except for the aspens.
Permits go on sale this Saturday for $20. They can be purchased at the following locations: Coconino Supervisor's Office, Flagstaff Ranger Station, Red Rock Ranger Station, Mogollon Rim Ranger Station, and Verde Ranger Station. More information can be found at fs.usda.gov/coconino.

Sedona Tourism Tips
Visits to the Red Rock area have tripled in the last decade. With the area's increased popularity, rangers want to educate the public on taking care of the forest. Red Rock District Ranger Nicole Branton is educating visitors on environmental stewardship so that the land can be enjoyed now and in the future.
It's crucial for visitors to discard their trash, use only the provided restroom facilities and stay on the trail, among other things, so that the land continues to be a beautiful and sustainable place.
The Red Rock District has Ranger programs along with school programs. This information is also in its visitor center.
*Beautiful Red Rocks during sunset* Sedona Fire Dept. Ambulance 561 light setup [AZ | 9/2017]
This is one of my most beautiful and spectacular videos (also note the pictures at the end)! :)
More information below (incl. the background, ambulance and similar beautiful videos).
Seen here is Sedona Fire Department ambulance 561 with its activated lights in front of its fire station and the absolutely gorgeous Red Rocks in the background!
Background:
The timing for this video (and when I saw the fire station) could not have been any better due to the sunset. While my video camera has some troubles with the colors you can see the real colors of the rocks in the pictures. Note that the pictures are not edited. The first one is the rock's actual color for a few minutes during sunset :)
About the ambulance:
A561 is an absolutely beautiful Ford F-350 ambulance. Love the chassis, love the light setup, the graphics and the flag plate in the front as well as the flash pattern of the LED's.
A few further things which I want to note:
- The grill lights are set to steady burn. Sometimes you'll see emergency vehicles in Arizona which have steady burn (red) lights even though this is not a legal requirement (that's only the case in Cali).
- It seems that the markings AZ-SED as well as SED A561 refer to the marking system of the forest fire service. They mark vehicles by State-forest/ city-unit. This unit is AZ-SED-A561 - Arizona-Sedona-Ambulance 561.
I always love taking emergency vehicle videos in a beautiful scenery.
Actually this is not the first time that I've got an extremely beautiful video in Sedona:
- State Trooper responding:
- traffic stop:
- walk around:
I was also lucky in numerous other parks and places :)
- this video was a dream & a wish come true! Coincidentally I've came across a Park Ranger right in the middle of a national park in a perfect setup on a dirt road surrounded by cacti:
- almost the same thing happened in a TX state park with a beautiful rock scenery:
- caught a traffic stop in a national monument (beautiful rocks again):
- and another unit in another beautiful rock scenery near Sedona:
- I have one from Europe as well - green hills are in the background:
- another park ranger doing his job and you'll see plenty of animals in the video too
- a Park Ranger near a visitor center, still interesting
A huge special thanks to the very kind crew and chief!! :)

Red Rock Canyon NCA, Nevada - Unravel Travel TV
Red Rock Canyon was designated as Nevada's first National Conservation Area. Red Rock Canyon is located 17 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip on Charleston Boulevard/State Route 159. The area is 195,819 acres and is visited by more than one million people each year. In marked contrast to a town geared to entertainment and gaming, Red Rock offers enticements of a different nature including a 13-mile scenic drive, more than 30 miles of hiking trails, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking, road biking, picnic areas, nature observing and visitor center with exhibit rooms and a book store.
The unique geologic features, plants and animals of Red Rock represent some of the best examples of the Mojave Desert. In 1990, special legislation supported by the Nevada congressional delegation, changed the status of the Red Rock Recreation Lands to a National Conservation Area (NCA), the seventh to be designated nationally. This legislation provides the funding to protect and improve the area. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is enjoyed by the local population as well as visitors from the United States and many foreign countries. One million visitors each year enjoy the spectacular desert landscape, climbing and hiking opportunities, and interpretive programs sponsored by the BLM.
The BLM is the largest administrator of public lands in the West. It adheres to the policy of multiple use, thereby providing recreational opportunities, protection for cultural sites, and the management of natural resources, including wildlife.

Things are about to get rocky for this couple! Vanessa Hudgens and her fella Austin Butler spent Valentine’s Day exploring Sedona, Arizona. They stopped by Red Rock State Park where the couple decided to declare their love for one another by carving their name on one of the park’s rocks. According to TMZ, an investigation has been launched by the Red Rock Ranger District of Coconino National Forest about the couple’s misconduct. A federal law exists prohibiting “damaging natural surfaces or property of the United States.” The maximum penalty for such a crime is a $5K fine and/or six months in prison!

Ive heard many things about experiencing the Grand Canyon and the surrounding areas and how it will change you. Although there are stressful factors in my life, i feel, how can i say? pure. I feel great. The air is so different than the east coast. Certainly nothing like a populated city.
First stop was Phoenix. After flying in from Jacksonville and Houston, my friend and I immediately in great need of food. So the first stop was an In n Out Burger joint in Tempe, Az. Ive had this before back in 05' but I cant recall the deliciousness of the food. After i dropped of my car in Jax, i forgot my warm gear considering the desert gets down to 30 degrees while phoenix stays warm. My friend and i checked out a few shops. We didnt stay too long since we had a short time limit for our whole trip. From there we quickly drove right into Downtown and right out onto I17 north toward Flagstaff stopping at Montezuma Castle and Sedona for the red rocks scenery.
Next Day we took a long drive through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and driving through the Monument Valley in Utah .
And for day three we took a day trip to the south rim of the breathtaking Grand Canyon. Stop at all points east of the main entrance. Yes i sat on the edge several times as much as i told myself i wouldnt. It was necessary. :) Taking the drive toward Cameron and back south to Flagstaff we came across a smaller Canyon area along the way where I was able to yell and hear my echo 5 times over. It was the most amazing experience ever just like in the movies.
Every person should visit the Grand Canyon at least once in there life time, including other desert activities. Overall my Arizona trip was beyond a success and I am glad I had someone with me to enjoy the memorable experience.
Ranger finds injured dog left at Lost Dutchman State Park
After finding a dog with two broken legs, an Arizona State Parks ranger is taking it upon herself to nurse the dog back to health after it mysteriously showed up at a ranger station last week.
