Slippery when wet! Going down on Ridgeline - Brevard, NC
Single-track mountain biking on Ridgeline trail in DuPont State Forest in Brevard, NC.
This is the fifth video in a series highlighting a weekend trip to Pisgah and Brevard.
After enjoying a few short descents on Hooker Creek and Hickory Mountain, we’ll continue where we left off on our way to the famous Ridgeline trail.
The trails were still wet from the previous nights rain, which added to the adventure. I wasn’t riding my best or fastest due to trail conditions and riding the trails blind. Excuses aside, we had a blast and definitely plan to ride these trails again.

Full run down RIDGELINE on a HARDTAIL! - DuPont State Forest - Brevard, NC
I have been spending a lot of time in western North Carolina lately. I've been ticking these world class trails off my bucket list one by one, and Ridgeline was high on that list!
The trail is super easy to access, hence it's reputation as the most famous flow trail in the southeast. And this trail totally lives up to the hype! At least for me, coming from the flattest part of the state, I was blown away by the speed of these sustained downhills!
Have you been to DuPont? How about Pisgah? Let me know what your favorite trails in the region are in the comments below!! Thanks so much for watching! For more, please like and subscribe!!
You don't have to be a HERO to ride HARD, so get your TAIL on the trail!

Let's Ride DuPont State Forest MTB Trails - Ridgeline
The tires I rolled when you need grip and protection:
I have to start by sayin gI love this trail system, my only gripe is that you have to ride fire roads here and there. The start to Jim Branch threw me off, I wasn’t expecting a rocky start!
The Dupont Trails that I rode were definitely fun and flowy, it did have some occasional chunk, but nothing like what you will find in the Pisgah, which it what we will see in my next video.
The trails I took to complete my loop were as follows, I started from Lake Imaging trailhead and onto Jim Branch, to Isaac Heath, to Locust, to Hilltop, to Lake Imaging Rd, to Buck Forest Rd, to White Pine, to Hooker creek, up Hickory Mountain loop and down Ridgeline back to the van. There are some pretty nice downhill sections that are fast, Hooker Creek and Ridgeline are a definite must and you will see those in this video. When I was done, my wife ripped the same route while I took the kids on a waterfall tour.

Ultimate Fall Color Hike - Chestnut Knob Trail - South Mountains State Park - North Carolina
This was a beautiful hike I did a Saturdays ago in South Mountains State Park in western North Carolina. SMSP is our state's largest park at almost 21,000 acres. I'm hiking with Nikki's cousin, Dr. Sarah Oxendine (veterinarian from NC State). This was Sarah's first visit to this side of the park. The video was shot with a GoPro Hero 8 and a Sony A6500. Sorry for the heavy breathing. It's quite a hike for a 300-pound dude.

Hawksbill Mountain Salamander Trail Appalachian trail Hiking Overnighter
This 1.5-mile round-trip hike to the summit of Hawksbill Mountain (elevation 4,009 ft.) has an amazing payoff with panoramic views of the canyon of Linville Gorge Wilderness Area - with the valley floor and Linville River 2,000 ft. below you. On a clear day, you can even see the skyline of Charlotte - about 90 miles away! The strenuous hike climbs about 700 ft. in elevation, so allow plenty of time. It's definitely one of our favorite hikes near Asheville!
The 360-degree views from the top are some of the most spectacular you'll find in the North Carolina mountains. There are several great vantage points on the summit. It's an amazing spot for a picnic. Look east into the Piedmont, north to Grandfather Mountain or southwest to Mt. Mitchell. This rugged summit is adjacent to Table Rock, a similar hike a few miles away. Peak fall color views into the gorge are normally the third week of October. Note: The unpaved road is bumpy, so drive slow. Not a good choice for low clearance sports cars.
The trail to the summit of Hawksbill begins from the parking area on unpaved Pisgah National Forest service road 1264. You start with a short downhill section, but then it's a gradual uphill trek. After about a half-mile, the summit trail turns left just before reaching the Jonas Ridge Trail (it's an obvious turn with a sign). From here, the summit trail gets progressively rockier and steeper. When you arrive at the top of the ridge with a large boulder, a trail goes both left and right to explore the summit. Go to the right on a narrow trail through the woods to reach the expansive rock face with the best views. Many go to the left only (since it's more obvious) and mistakenly think that's the best view.
The Hawksbill Mountain hiking trail is about 65 miles from Asheville in Burke County. The shortest route is via I-40 east to Marion. Then take U.S. Highway 221 north to the Linville Falls area, then Highway 183 to Highway 181. Go south three miles on Highway 181 to Gingercake Road (the second intersection with Gingercake Rd.). This is about four miles south of the Blue Ridge Parkway intersection with Highway 181. A half-mile down Gingercake Rd, stay left (follow Table Rock sign) on road 1264. The pavement ends in a mile. Continue about 2.5 miles on an unpaved, bumpy forest service road to the Hawksbill parking area on left (look for the big boulders that mark parking spots). The trail starts on right side of the road (look for the trail sign there).
Camping is allowed anywhere, but a permit is required on weekends (Fri-Sun) and holidays between May 1 and October 31. A permit for one or two nights is free, but there is a limited number available. You can obtain a permit by stopping by or calling the District Ranger Office at: Grandfather Ranger District, 109 East Lawing Dr, Nebo, NC 28761

Have a look at Trace Ridge in the Mills River area of Western NC. This is a fun fast trail with a reasonable climb to get to the fun stuff.
Hawksbill Mountain in Linville Gorge
As far as Southern Appalachia goes and the Western North Carolina highlands, Linville Gorge might top my list of favorites, and possibly the best view in the gorge is from Hawksbill Mountain. But there’s so many amazing views in the Grand Canyon of the East, who’s to say which is the best? But I assure you Hawksbill Mountain does not disappoint. I threw together this quick edit for one of my favorite songs paired with one of my favorite places.
Ridgeline - Best Flow Trail - uncut - MTB flow
Today my son and I hit up Ridgeline at DuPont State Forest in North Carolina. It's the best flow trail I've been on and many people travel here just to ride it. Bit of a climb to get to the top and as you see from the uncut video, about 7 minutes to get down. At least the climb is easy up access roads.
