RS New Years Day 2010 Steam Special from Magaliesburg
It's 2010 New Years morning as I alone set out to follow the 10H00 Magaliesburg departure of Reef Steamers ( reefsteamers.co.za ) New Years day Steam Special from Magaliesburg, for video purposes!
On a rather cloudy late summers morning, heading east-bound, back to Maraisburg, I follow Elize, a SAR Class 25NC - № 3472 (4-8-4), and her train from Magalies countryside, powering her way up-grade out of the Magalies valley, which witnesses steam traction in almost full cry to usher in 2010 with steam action on the mainline.
Some of the video footage is a bit shaky, as some of the footage was grabbed hand-held, as my tripod was rather uncooperative . . .
Enjoy . . . See the previous video, as well, please
Reefsteamers Magaliesburg day trip - 31/03/2018
Reefsteamers 12AR 1535 is seen out on a day trip to Magaliesburg.
South African Railways 19D 3322 on Magaliesburg Express 31-01-88
Here we see a clip of a SAR class 19D 4-8-2 on a special day working to Magaliesburg just to the West of Johannesburg. This loco was always a great performer and steamed very well but like any steam locomotive, drive it wrong and you will soon throw everything out the chimney as was the case here where the loco finally ran out of steam on the steep banks of Three Sisters.

Reef Steamers visit The Colonial Restaurant in Magaliesburg
The very popular steam engine locomotive, The Reef Steamer, brought visitors to Magaliesburg.
Guests were collected via shuttle and transported to The Colonial Restaurant where they enjoyed a lovely meal served by Katy and her staff.
After their meal they were taken back to the Magaliesburg Train Station where they embarked on their steam train journey back to their destinations.
A lovely day out in the country indeed!

South African Steam: 15F 3153 Magaliesburg Express 1994
One of my earliest attempts at video - it's noisy, shaky and zoomy... But for history's sake I've uploaded it. There are a couple of good shots of 15F 3153 in full cry on the way back from Magaliesburg to Johannesburg.

Reefsteamers' Magaliesburg Steam Train
Reefsteamers' 15F 3046 'Janine' took us to Magaliesburg on 4-2-2012. Follow some scenes on the way there, including a spirited departure from Tarlton, and the engine working hard into Magaliesburg. She is then turned on the triangle, causing some slipping. This is four sequences of tight and uphill turns through Battery and what is called the 'Three Sisters' bends. Sorry for some bad wind noise here and there.
Reefsteamers' Class 12AR SUSAN on her Trip to Nowhere - 4 Aug 2018
Catastrophic signal and point failures resulted in a cancelled trip to Magaliesburg. From Park Station the train took 5 hours (!) to reach Krugersdorp, eventually turning around and going back to Joburg.
