The Lutheran Protestant Church of St. Reinold is, according to its foundation date, the oldest extant church in Dortmund, Germany; it is dedicated to Reinold, also known as Renaud de Montauban, the patron of the city. The church was built as a palatine church in the Ottonian era. The present building is a late Romanesque church with a late gothic quire. St. Reinold's was built from 1250 to 1270, and is located in the centre of the city, directly at the crossing of the Hellweg (a historic trade route) and the historic road from Cologne to Bremen. St. Reinoldi's congregation is a member of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia, an umbrella comprising Lutheran, Reformed and united Protestant congregations.
Efforts to complete the tower of St. Reinold's were renewed in 1443. After its completion in 1454, it was 112 m (367 ft) tall and was referred to as the Miracle of Westphalia. The polygonal spire was renovated the first time in 1519. On 24 June 1520, the copper roofing was completed, and on 27 July the spire was added. The apex of the church was now about seven metres higher. In 1562 the pastors and congregations of Dortmund confirmed their adoption of Lutheranism in St. Reinold's Church. In 1661, the tower collapsed after being damaged during an earthquake. The foundation for the new tower was laid 1662, and the building was completed 1701, with a baroque ornament on the top.
The church was heavily damaged in World War II. Since the reconstruction the tower now bears a hood with baroque features similar to the original one, but increased in height (together with the tower as a whole) to correspond with the increased height of the surrounding modern buildings in the city centre. These features supply a visual and harmonious connection between the original style of the church and its appearance after reconstruction. The tower of St. Reinold's Church (today's height: 104 m (341 ft)) can be visited, up to the first platform by the bell tower.
On the inside there is a large set of bells, made by the Bochumer Verein foundry (total weight: 20 t), built in 1954 with altogether 6 steel bells. Their cost at the time of creation was DM 90,500. The heaviest bell (Pitch: f°) weighing 6.500 kg, and measuring 2.50 m in diameter, is the largest cast steel bell in Westphalia.
In December 2016, nine neo-Nazis from various German cities who were associated with the Die Rechte right wing group occupied the church steeple and appeared to set off fireworks from it. The members were subsequently taken into custody by police. Neo-Nazi slogans shouted from the steeple through a megaphone were drowned out by the church bells, ordered to be rung by the vicar of St. Reinold's. The illegal occupation of the church's tower was met with disbelief and anger from the church's spokespersons and the vast majority of the public.

Places to see in ( Dortmund - Germany ) Westfalenpark
The Westfalenpark Dortmund was opened for the first of the three federal horticultural shows there (1959, 1969, 1991). On the site of the old Kaiser-Wilhelm-grove, the Busch Mill Park , a landfill and overgrown allotments, a park, the center of the 220 meters at the time the highest German building, which was created Florianturm forms.
With 70 hectares , the park is one of the largest inner-city parks in Europe and serves as a popular excursion and recreation destination in North Rhine-Westphalia . It is home to the German Rosarium , which presents more than 3,000 different types of roses to its visitors, and is the venue for many concerts and regular events, such as the festival Juicy Beats or the Festival of Lights . In addition, the closing rally of the traditional May Day demonstration of the DGBthere instead. Particularly popular are the concerts on the lake stage as well as the a cappella festival and the flea markets. Many events take place under the awning in the middle of the park. The 1980s parties or the Ibiza parties were crowd pullers that attracted well over 1,000 visitors.
The Westfalenpark was extended to the Federal Garden Show Euroflor in 1969 by 10 hectares. The Rosarium and, in its center, the Water Heart, a basin whose water level changes periodically, were created on the site. The awning designed by the architect Günter Behnisch in 1969 is considered an experimental construction of a self-supporting roof construction. After proving the feasibility of such a ceiling construction, the construction of the Munich Olympic Stadium followed .
In the park one finds also the nature protection house. At the time of the Federal Horticultural Show in 1991, 2.5% of the total area of the park was dedicated to nature conservation. This area is an island of volunteer conservation in the middle of a park. AGARD (AG Amphibian and Reptile Protection in Dortmund) takes care of this nature conservation island as representative of the free-lance, committed conservationists. School classes, kindergartens and other groups of all ages (from the age of 5) have the opportunity to explore nature in and around the nature conservation center.
The Westfalenpark is located on the northern slope of the Emscher and the terrain follows with a gentle slope of natural geography. The river itself forms the southern boundary of the park. On the southern part of the park area was the colliery Am Busch , established in 1768. There was since February 21, 1816, the first Dortmund steam engine in operation. She pumped mine water from about 25 meters depth and thus enabled civil engineering on hard coal . During the underground installation of the sewer as part of the project Reconstruction of the Emscher system in the early 1990s, a part of the old tunnels and cross- cuts was cut and photographically documented. This documentation is on the reconstructed Göpelschacht Christine in the Westfalenpark as an exhibition made accessible to the public.

The U-Tower or Dortmunder U is a former brewery building in the city of Dortmund, Germany. Since 2010 it has served as a center for the arts and creativity, housing among other facilities the Museum Ostwall. It was the first high-rise built in Dortmund, between 1926 and 1927. The Union Brewery used this building for the fermentation and storage of their products.
In 1994 the brewery and all its surrounding buildings were closed and demolished; only the Dortmund U-Tower was spared due to having landmark status. In January 2008 the Dortmund U-Tower was decided to be redeveloped as a flagship project for the Ruhr 2010 – Cultural Capital of Europe. Today it is considered one of Dortmund's central places, in which creative catering and event facilities are offered.
