Sharks & Gators
it was a beautiful day so I took the kayak out and went on a new adventure. I went down a little water way named Goat Creek off the Indian River in Valkaria FL. I saw at least three gators - most moms with little babies I could either see or hear near by. Then when I cam back out into our brackish river just seconds after I had made the decision to get y cast net and stand in the clear ankle deep water - not 1 but 4 different hammer head sharks appearded. I tried really hard to get some footage for you both under water and on top - but was lucky enough to get them splashing right in front of the kayak! Where else can you get sunburn, float with the gators then hang with the sharks! I am really happy to live in Brevard Florida!
Thank you for watching Florida Girl Adventure videos. A few years ago, I started this project of making videos while I was out 'adventuring' to share with my family. As you see I am a solo hiker, kayak-er and camper and I wanted my husband and daughter to be able to see the sites and share some of my experiences, without all the bugs, dirt and heat of actually being there. In December 2015 I went live with my first videos to Youtube and they were received successfully from the viewers. With that I have been encouraged to keep sharing my videos with you. I know that people from totally different states who may never make it to Florida might get to see some back wooded area, some swamp, or some local gathering hole that they otherwise would never have seen.
If you like my videos please check out my website here:

To help support this project I have created this amazon affliate store where you can purchase my favorite kayaking and camping accessories: OR just click the word SHOPPING from Florida Girls web site. Please consider clicking through from my web site. Your item will not cost you any more and of course you can use amazon as you always have; the only difference is a little line of code that tells them I sent you there :-)
If you have watched many of my videos you will have met Princess DOT DOG - she is my loyal purple haired cocker spaniel and I could not do this without her by my-side. She's my best friend and body guard. And will protect me if there is ever a great lizard attack, she will be my defender!

09/30/14 ☢ New Fukushima Data Released ☢ Melbourne, Florida Hard Hit
Newly released data shows Florida hit with highest level of radioactive material from Fukushima measured anywhere in world outside Japan — #1 out of more than 1,500 test results — Total radioactive iodine was up to 500% of amount reported
New Fukushima Data Released, FL Had Highest Radiation Outside Japan By: Skyepony , 6:32 AM GMT on September 28, 2014
The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization
The following transcript by FansFiltration 09/29/14
A report analyzing data from US monitoring stations has tracked the radioactive material released when the Fukushima nuclear power-plant suffered three nuclear meltdowns in March 2011. Over the past three years, they have determined where all of this material collects.
The Preparatory Commission for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization has recently released a new Fukushima Report that shows where the most radioactive material collects outside of Japan. A logical choice would be somewhere in the Pacific, possibly Hawai`i, Washington or California. They have had a fair amount of reports released from those areas showing the increase in radiation, and the effects it has caused on plants, non-human animals, and human animals, especially infants and children who are most susceptible to DNA mutation caused by ionizing radiation. Fission products started to arrive in the United States via atmospheric transport on March 15, 2011.
Sacramento reported having 1000 times more radioactive material than was previously expected from projections of Chernobyl's partial meltdown in 1986.
The ocean currents have been cycling the Fukushima radiation from these broken reactors throughout the Pacific Ocean, and much of the material has wound up on the western shores of the United States and Mexico.
But there is an unsuspecting place that contains even more radiation. The Report names Florida, particularly Melbourne Florida, as containing the most material from the three complete nuclear meltdowns at Fukushima. The state of Florida also recorded 4 of the top 10 daily measurements. How can a place so remote to Japan collect the most radioactive isotopes from Fukushima?
You can see on the Activity Concentration graph in the weeks following the Fukushima disaster. Here, Melbourne, Florida is marked with the gray line and triangles. Florida had the meteorological bad luck of being under a concentrated atmospheric radioactive swirl from the second half of March through April 2011. As a result, Melbourne, Florida in Brevard County recorded the highest single day concentration of Iodine-131 of anywhere in the world, according to measurements taken by the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization.
Xenon and Cesium were also detected in Melbourne. Additionally, Cesium-134, 136 and 137; Iodine-131 and 132; and Tellurium-129m and 132 were detected by air filters in nearby Orlando, Florida.
North of the Indian River Lagoon, Cesium-134 and Iodine-131 were detected in rainfall in Jacksonville, Florida. Of all fission products, Iodine-131 is the most dreaded because exposure to low doses can lead to thyroid cell damage, cancer, and metabolic disorders. Iodine-131 also dissolves quickly in water which allows it to move easily into plants and animals. These hotspots increase and decrease throughout the northern hemisphere, not just in Melbourne, Florida.
Radiation is a phantom killer. Its isotopes are imperceptible to the human senses, but they are nonetheless dangerous as bio-accumulation stores more and more of these radioactive isotopes in your body.

Flea Market - REAL USA Ep. 34
Welcome to Episode 34 of the REAL United States Video Blog (Vlog) about average life in the United States. In this episode we visit a typical Flea Market, located relatively close to where we live. While Flea Markets vary widely in whether they are indoor, outdoor, or some combination of both, this Flea Market in Frontenac, Florida is at least relatively exemplary of a typical setup. The term Flea Market is actually used by tradition, and doesn't actually have fleas, nor is it run by fleas. The term was adopted from the French Marché aux puces which became a popular slang terms in the 1860's.

Hurricane Matthew Intercept Melbourne, FL
Hurricane Matthew
I left my home in Suburban Detroit on Thursday morning and left for Melbourne, Florida. The hurricane had already caused havoc in the Caribbean. Matthew became a tropical storm just before impacting the Windward Islands. Moving through the Eastern Caribbean, it slowly intensified into a Category 1 hurricane. Matthew then went through a period of rapid intensification, quickly becoming a Category 5 hurricane with 160mph winds. It was the third quickest intensification in the Atlantic. Matthew caused at least 1000 fatalities in the Caribbean Islands, with most occurring in Haiti. Matthew made landfall as an upper-end Category 4 hurricane in Haiti, and as a Category 4 in Cuba as well. The hurricane then weakened to a Category 3 after land interaction and moved into the Southwest Atlantic. Moving into favorable conditions for intensification, it restrengthened into a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall on several of the Bahamas Islands. It then paralleled the Florida East Coast while slowly weakening and undergoing an eyewall replacement cycle. It curved to the NE before landfalling in South Carolina as a minimal Category 1 hurricane. Flooding was extreme in the Carolinas, with moderate wind damage reported from Florida to North Carolina. Storm surge was a significant issues, especially in Northern Florida and the Carolinas. Wind damage was intense in the Bahamas, Cuba, and Haiti.
I met up with a friend from Louisiana at the Melbourne Airport. We went to our hotel, the Super 8 Hotel, and got settled in before the storm hit. Winds started out barely gusting to tropical storm force, but as the night went on, they increased to well over hurricane force. Peak wind gusts were in the 90-100mph range, though the absolute worst was not recorded on video. We got clipped by the western part of the outer eyewall. Pressure got down to 981.4mb. The hotel lost about 20-25% of its roofing, sustained a couple broken windows, and many trees were downed in the area. Other structures had roof damage, fences were blown over, signs were down, many limbs were snapped, and docks/piers were broken. A lot of power flashes and power outages occurred, but we only lost power for a few hours. Storm surge flooding was not as bad as areas further north like in Daytona or St. Augustine. We were able to leave Melbourne on Saturday and make it back to our respected locations. I included the TWC local on the 8's clip as seeing wind speeds that high was unique. The hurricane was supposed to make landfall in our area, but due to an unstable inner core it kept wobbling and remained offshore. If it made landfall then impacts would have been much more severe. This is a disaster that won't soon be forgotten.
