Amsterdam Cycling Tips for Visitors
#Amsterdam #AmsterdamTravelTips #distantlands
There are more bicycles than people in Amsterdam. Cycling for the majority is the primary way of getting around and because of this the Dutch take cycling seriously. There is little patience for people who muck up the system. Before you rent that bike learn the rules of the road and once you rented, get to know your bike and practice riding it where you will not disturb others.
Tips for riding a bike in Amsterdam
Due to It’s small size, cycling is the best way to discover Amsterdam. You can cycle wherever you want at your own leisure and there are cycle paths all over the city, making it safe for cyclists.
Vanupied wanted to find out more about cycling in Amsterdam, so we asked one of the most central bike rental companies: the aptly-named RentaBike.nl, near Dam Square, for some advice.
On the menu: safety rules, what do to if it rains, when you are high or drunk and/or at night, where to go on a ride outside of Amsterdam.
Find more info online on vanupied.com. Be curious and enjoy your ride!

BIKE ADVENTURE IN AMSTERDAM
We fly to Amsterdam for our first travel experience outside of Germany. The city is beautiful and alive when we arrive, and we rent bikes to ride around the city. We get familiar with our surroundings for the rest of the day and call it an early night after meeting up with our couch surfing host.
- How we chose to stay in Amsterdam.
- How we chose to get around the city.
Join me on my adventure for my first time being in Europe, and my first time vlogging! I will be living in Stuttgart, Germany for the summer - longer if I can successfully obtain a visa. During this time I will be exploring as much of Germany and the rest of Europe as I can.

How Amsterdam Became a Bicycle Paradise
The Dutch capital Amsterdam is widely known for being bike-friendly. But it wasn’t always a model cycling city. Public outrage at rising traffic casualties in the Seventies caused city planners to rethink their approach to urban design.

Watch this Amazing Dutch Film Crew bike with 60K in gear in hands!
I was in Santa Monica bicycling along the beach on the Marvin Braude Bike Trail to pick up some b-roll of bicyclists for a future Streetfilm when this incredible four-person Dutch crew flew by on bikes - with a full load of gear in hand. I immediately jumped on my bike to catch up to see what they were up to (it took a freaking while, as you can see they were pedaling fast!)
They were in the Los Angeles area to shoot a documentary on poker players and decided the easiest way to get lots of establishing shots in Santa Monica was to park their vehicle, rent bikes and ride around lugging $60,000 plus in film gear. I was quite in awe. I've done myriad feats of strength filming by bike, but I probably wouldn't even consider attempting this. They looked like they were having a ton of fun and made it look easy - after all, as they pointed out, they're Amsterdammers and they should be able to do anything by bike.
Hey guys, sign me up for your next shoot in the states! :)
Yellow Bike - Amsterdam
Yellow Bike is just a couple of minutes away from Central Station, and is one of the best things to do if you wish to experience the delights of Amsterdam the way the Dutch do. You will have the option of choosing a city tour or a country side tour, both of which come with a well-trained and experienced guide. Yellow Bike also provide a bike rental service for those adventurous enough to go out on their own. The fact that it is the oldest bike tour company in Amsterdam gives it lots of credibility and experience.

The Anne Frank House is a museum dedicated to Jewish wartime diarist Anne Frank.

A train to Den Haag (The Hague as it is called in English) only takes 50 minutes from Amsterdam. Then a short tram ride to Scheveningen, which is the most popular seaside resort in the Netherlands.
4. Chips and Mayonaise
Be sure to try Friet and Mayo, (dutch french fries) it really is a great combination and tastes really nice especially after a day on the beach or after a walk around Amsterdam.
5. Visit the Dutch parlimentary buildings
The Dutch parlimentary buildings is called Binnenhof and is made up of a complex of buildings in the city centre of The Hague. They are amazing buildings and have a great deal of detail and character

7. Go for a stroll and take in the sights
There are some amazing things to see in Amsterdam from the buildings, to the people.. Where every you look there is a bike or a canal.
8. Take in some art at Museum Quarter
There are several museums to choose from in Museum Quarter. We went into the Van Gough museum, but unfortunately we were not allowed to film in there. There was a Banksy exhibition that was being displayed for a short period of time that we were lucky to see. They allowed photography but without a flash.
9. One hour canal cruise
There are many boat trips to choose from that go through the canals. 1 to 3 hours are the most popular. There are many to choose from close to the Centraal Station
10 Find the smallest house and the narrowest lane
You can go inside the smallest house as it is a gift shop and tea room. It is called Het Kleinst Huis which amazingly translates to 'The Smallest House'. It is 2.02 meters (6 feet 8 inches) wide and 5 meters (16 feet 5 inches) deep.
This song on this video is called 'Give it up'. It is written and recorded by Angus McGregor
