Hi! How are you?
I have been looking for my brother’s corpse for 40 years! The people of Iran have shed blood. The Islamic Republic is a usurper. Shame on Khamenei. Death to Khamenei. Shame on the filthy Islamic Republic of Iran. Our brothers were killed. Islam has only brought us misery. Death to Khamenei. Death to Khamenei (inaudible) the criminal. Long live freedom. Long live the people of Iran.
Down with the Islamic Republic of Iran
Freedom for Iran
Do you think these disagreements [among the protesters] is going to get in the way of people uniting?
Without unity, we’ll have no results. They have been ruling over people for 40... 39+ years [since the 1979 Islamic Revolution]. If our people don’t have unity, how can we support the young [protesters in Iran]? It’s up to you and me. We have to unite in our beliefs. As one.
Do you think these reformists are in the same camp as the hardliners?
Everyone replies: They are all the same, they are all together!
When people have had it up to here, they bring in the reformists to give people false hope. So that people calm down.
The people have risen in Iran (inaudible) they want freedom. They want a secular government. They want to have a humane life. They don’t want to be hungry. They want equality between women and men. They want to overthrow the Islamic regime. I’m here to support them.
When you say they want a secular government, and that they want to remove the Islamic regime, do you really think that this is something that many [in Iran] are saying?
[Yes] because when I see - in the protests in Iran - when some chant Allahu Akbar, the people respond “shut up, shut up.” That is so important. Nine years ago, in the 2009 protests [in Iran] (AKA the Green Movement) there was no such thing. This is a new movement. It's humanist. The people want to put religion aside. They want to say we are hungry; we want food, we want freedom, we want equality. If someone says Allahu Akbar, they respond “shut up.”
Today, the Islamic republic is shouting and says that Western governments are supporting the people in these protests. They [non-Iranians] need to show them that Western governments didn’t bring the Iranian people into the streets. This is the voice of the people [of Iran], this is the spontaneous movement of the people [of Iran], that’s what brought people out [into the streets].
I will break your phone.

Anti-Islam Rally in Vancouver Overwhelmed by Counterprotesters

Thousands protest against anti-Islam, anti-immigration rally at Vancouver City - Saturday, Agust 19 2017
Armin Navabi: I think we have to acknowledge that white supremacy and bigotry are real problems, call it out when we see it, and talk to people who hold these bad ideas. But when we label everything we disagree with as bigotry, racism or Nazism, we will be less effective at tackling these problems, and might even drive more people who were worried or angry towards bigotted viewpoints. The solution is more listening and more discussions. Labeling people as Nazis without even talking to them and shaming them for having views we disagree with is counterproductive. What I saw at this rally was mostly hate. But not from where you would expect it. I saw hate from people who were holding signs of love and peace. I saw people shouting coward at the few people who were brave enough to stand up to a mob who did not have the courage to listen to people that might challenge their views. I saw people shouting fuck you Nazi scum and drop dead hater at people they didn't even bother to listen to before judging. I saw signs ripped apart, their holders drowned out and booed away by people asking for tolerance. I heard the speaker starting a chant 'I believe that we will win.' It might have looked like a win in the short-run, but you can't just wish racism away. If this is our solution, it will come back and haunt us as problems that will be much harder to fix.
Armin Navbi: Based on my experience many Muslims are willing to have civil discussions about uncomfortable topics. You can see this in the video as well. Silencing the expression of these ideas only isolates those who hold them and encourages their manifestation in bigoted and xenophobic ways. By doing so, the left is hurting the very Muslims they pretend to protect.
Here are examples of some of my discussions with Muslims:
