INFORMACIÓN DE MAUSOLEOS DE REVASH

Los mausoleos de Revash son una necrópolis perteneciente a la Cultura Chachapoyas.
Eran sepulcros colectivos que ocupan cuevas naturales o excavadas en la pared rocosa de un imponente barranco,.
Pintadas de rojo y crema, algunos presentan tejados a dos aguas, sin ser necesario, pues ante posibles lluvias el cerro servía de protección. Algunos otros tienen dos niveles y tienen ventanas en forma de T, en cruz o cuadradas. Parte de las rocas están pintadas en rojo con círculos, llamas y otros símbolos mágicos.

El Museo Leymebamba, inaugurado en junio del 2000, alberga las más de 200 momias y sus ofrendas funerarias, recuperadas en 1997 de la Laguna de los Cóndores mediante el proyecto arqueológico de emergencia dirigido por el Centro Mallqui. Las tareas de rescate permitieron recuperar para la historia local una valiosa colección arqueológica que se encontraba en riesgo de desaparecer debido a la acción vandálica de huaqueros y visitantes inescrupulosos. A partir de una iniciativa de The Bioanthropology Foundation Perú-Centro Mallqui, la construcción del Museo Leymebamba fue posible gracias al aporte financiero proveniente de un grupo de ciudadanos austriacos y de otras donaciones privadas.

Los Mausoleos de Revash ...llegue hasta el distrito de Santo Tomás, en la provincia de Luyam a 60 km. al sur de la provincia de Chachapoyas; los Mausoleos están situados a una altura de unos 2,800 metros sobre el nivel del mar ...Se encuentran en línea en un estrecho pasillo, formado por la cavidad que se ha excavado en la pared rocosa. Se mantienen casi intactas, sin embargo las momias que allí se encontraban fueron saqueadas por la mano del hombre y por algunos roedores ...Se asemejan a pequeñas viviendas y los conglomerados de las mismas forman pueblos en miniatura, pudiendo ser una copia de los existentes en aquel tiempo; los mausoleos han sobrevivido al tiempo, gracias a la cueva que los protege y por su dificultad de acceso ...Fueron destinados a ser residencias colectivas para enterrar poderosos y prestigiosos fallecidos. Tienen la característica de contar con una planta rectangular sin acceso frontal, ya que la entrada se realiza por los laterales ...No tienen pared posterior, haciendo las funciones de ésta, la roca sobre la que se apoyan... En la cueva aparecen dibujos y otras representaciones de color rojo, algunas identificadas como personas y otras difíciles de definir y tienen una vinculación clara con los mausoleos, aunque existen más pinturas rupestres que nada tienen que ver con ellos y que pueden ser atribuidos a sociedades pre-agrícolas milenarias ...Las tumbas también aparecen decoradas a base de escisiones, su contenido simbólico se desconoce, constituido por representaciones en forma de T, cruces y rectángulos, que recuerdan la forma de la arquitectura de las costas de Virú ????

Chachapoyas, The Tombs At Revash and Karajia's Sarcophagi.
Chachapoyas is a city in northern Peru at an elevation of 2,235 meters (7,657 ft.). The city has a population of approximately 20,279 people. Situated in the mountains far from the Peruvian coast, Chachapoyas remains fairly isolated from other regions of Peru. Hikers and adventurers can visit the Chachapoya region There is daily service by bus to Chiclayo and Cajamarca. The bus from Chiclayo is an overnight bus but to Cajamarca due to the difficult and winding roads the bus only goes during the day. The road to Cajamarca is a dirt road so it is almost impossible to travel to Cajamarca during the rainy season from Chachapoyas. Although there was a local airport, flight service was limited.
The city of Chachapoyas is the capital of the Amazonas Region. It was founded on September 5, 1538 by the Spanish conquistador Alonso de Alvarado and his twenty. Local agriculture includes sugar cane, orchid and coffee growing. Chachapoyas' transitional location between the arid Cordillera Occidental and Cordillera Central and the rainy, rain forested Cordillera Oriental, allow it to receive generally moderate annual precipitation without experiencing the copiously excessive, tropical-rainforest-like precipitation amounts in towns farther east such as Moyobamba.
The sarcophagi of Karajía,
Were the tombs for the elite of the Chachapoya culture, are located in the Department of Amazonas, in the Province of Luya, 60 km (37 mi) to the northwest of the city of Chachapoyas.
These full-sized sarcophagi depict a sculptured head with a enormous jaw line. Some of the headpieces are embellished with horns, imitating deer antlers, while others show encrusted human skulls, which are presumed to be trophy heads.
These sarcophagi were crafted on-site, on inaccessible perches on high cliff sides. In their construction wild cane stalks were tied up with twine creating a cone-shaped structure. Inside of the cone, the deceased were placed in the fetal position. The structure was then covered up with a thick layer of clay and straw as a binding material. Afterwards, the artificial head was sculpted and the headpiece was placed on top of the point of the cone. The sarcophagus body was painted white, while the head and headpiece were decorated with delicately brushed ocher strokes. Feathered tunics, also painted with ochre, adorned the body of the sarcophagus. The gender of the deceased was also displayed on the cone-shaped body of each sarcophagus.
Revash Tombs.
The mausoleums of Revash are tombs each containing the remains of several people. The Chachapoya people erected them on inaccessible ledges on high cliffs. They were constructed out of blocks cut from limestone joint together by mortar and clay stucco. The roofs of the mausoleums are either flat or gabled and were made from maguey stalks tied up together with twine. On their walls are found T or cross-shaped niches and pictographs, which resemble anthropomorphic beings and geometrical forms colored in shades of red. It is presumed these markings had magical or religious significance.
