Iceland Glacier Adventure Tour: Take a Walk on the Ice Side
The most popular tour in the book! On this Iceland day tour you will be guided through the labyrinth of a glacier tongue extending down from the fourth biggest glacier in Iceland.
Only two hours from Reykjavík you find the Eyjafjallajökull massif, and just a little further east the Sólheimajökull glacier, a tongue extends down from its mother glacier, Mýrdalsjökull, Iceland's fourth largest.
On this tour you will go on a safe and easy walk on crampons up onto the ice field where you will discover a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses, and learn about the glacier and the effect of the Eyjafjallajökull eruption in 2010 on the glacier and its surroundings.

EPIC Glacier hike - ICELAND | World Travel Vlog
My friend Tine and I are exploring Iceland. We started out with a 3 hour Glacier hike on blue ice.. needless to say, it was amazing:)
This glacier is the Sólheimajökull glacier, it's located about 1,5 hour south of Reykjavik. Sólheimajökull is one small part of a huge mother glacier with many tounges.
Our trip was booked though Reykjavik Excursions our guide was from and the trip costs the same on their site.

Iceland Glacier Walk Tour: Solheimajokull Exploration
Save 20% on an exploration of an icy wonderland
The Sólheimajökull glacier tongue that extends from the great Mýrdalsjökull glacier, down to the sandy plains of the Icelandic south coast. The spectacular surroundings are marked by rugged and majestic rock formations thoroughly shaped by the glacier. This is an easy walk on crampons up onto the ice field where a wonderland of ice sculptures, ridges and deep crevasses await your discovery. From the beginning of the tour an experienced glacier guide will teach you how to use basic ice equipment, crampons and ice axe required for your trip into this magical frozen world.
Talk a Walk on the Ice Side - Glacier Walk in Iceland
Ah Iceland! One of my most favorite places in the world to visit! A fantastic glacier hike in Southern Iceland on Feb. 4, 2012. There's nothing I love more than cold weather, winter clothes, and the feeling my extremities going numb. NOT! I definitely gravitate more toward warm weather climates, which is probably why everyone seemed so surprised when I announced that I would be visiting Iceland at the end of January this year. I shopped for warm clothing and even bought a new jacket in preparation for my trip, especially in anticipation of my glacier walk. I completely believed I was going into subzero weather and would freeze without appropriate attire so I packed enough clothing for me and probably a family of four.
After stopping at two other hotels in Reykjavik to pick up other participants, we started our two hour ride to South Iceland. There was one stop on the way was at a convenience store for a bathroom break and time to pick up snacks and we were quickly back on the road and arriving at the parking lot in front of the glacier. -- Reykjavik and Golden Circle tour
Arrived at KEF at 6:30 - wandered around, picked up luggage, got onto the Flybus for Reykjavik (you could either buy tickets at the desk in the terminal or on the bus - the lady had a hand-held credit card gizmo with her) and landed in town around 7:30am. We all trekked into the bus terminal with our luggage and unpacked our winter coats from the top of our biggest bag -- it was COLD -- 32°! From there, we transferred to a minibus, at no extra charge, to take us to the hotel, FossHotel Baron, and we were too early for our room. Front desk guy showed us and another family where to store luggage and we grabbed one small backpack and we were ready to head off for a tour. A Reykjavik Excursions minibus was waiting for others, so we joined it, making several more stops, and were back at the bus station with only enough time to buy tickets, take a quick trip through the café for snacks 'to go' and join the Golden Circle Tour. There were two buses and both looked to be pretty full. This I had not pre-booked, but I would think about booking ahead if we were to go again. I would have been so bummed if we couldn't go because the bus was full! Our bus-mates were a mixed group -- mostly older folks, but with a few 20-somethings and our boys were the only kids in the bunch. We'd decided to take a tour today, Sunday, because the boards reported that Reykjavik is slow to wake up on Sundays, and this was also the last day of the AirWaves music festival. From several reports I'd read, AirWaves was not the place for my 7yo and 10yo!! We had the English and French Golden Circle Tour. I'm not sure if there would have been more information given if the tour guide had only had to narrate in one language. Our first stop was at the Garden of Eden, a 'tourist greenhouse' with a café and souvenir shop. And restrooms, for those of us who had 'hit the ground running' as we got off the plane! They had lots of coffee, but no to-go cups, so I'd have to wait ... I also discovered that, although DH was prepared by having batteries in all of the pockets of the backpacks, we only had one set spare now that most of the luggage was back at the hotel. Rats! I had to buy AA batteries for my camera. I don't know how much they cost. I don't care. If the other choice would be that I couldn't take photos for the rest of the day ... But that is one good thing about having a camera which uses regular AA batteries. So it could always be worse. :-/ Our next stop was a volcanic crater. We were given time to get out and walk around. My boys saw others walk all the way around and climb the higher side of the crater edge, so they had to do that too. I would have been happier if there had been a guard rail! We drove past the Geysir area and our guide said we'd be stopping here later. She pointed out one of the glaciers in the distance. Since the temperature was just above freezing, the walkways at Gullfoss had a thin ice layer. Our guide told us to be careful and recommended against taking the path all the way to the edge of the falls, as it was so icy. We were dropped off at one spot, and had to walk down to see the waterfall, then to a different parking area to get back in the bus. Everything was 'glazed' by the mist freezing. We saw several people slip and fall. (This is not a tour if you are not able to walk around comfortably. You'd miss a lot if you had limited mobility, it seems to me.) Still no coffee for me here -- the servers were in some kind of discussion with one group -- looked to be a disagreement about their soup. I didn't wait, so I'll get coffee later. We had a 2-hour stop at Geysir. Our guide handed out brochures, which had a 10% off coupon included. There were 2 choices for food -- Hotel Geysir or the gift shop/cafeteria next door. We checked on both and liked the looks of the buffet at the hotel. We had a *great* lunch at the Hotel Geysir. There were 3 different kinds of salmon, 2 kinds of cod(?), veggies, and a variety of indulgent desserts. I'm not a big seafood fan, but I do like salmon once in a while. It was great. This was our one 'splurge' meal in Iceland! I got a pot of coffee, so I was good to go for the rest of the day! :-) Strokkur was the 'Old Faithful' of the geysers here, it spouted every 7 minutes or so. We were warned that the hot water in the thermal pools was HOT! The area was pretty much like parts of Yellowstone, with an 'other- worldly' look to it.

Iceland - Walk on the ICE SIDE
This is a video from my trip to Iceland. It attempts to show how amazing it is to walk on (and a litle inside) a glacier. The video ends by following the glacial water stream where it flows to the ocean. Skogafoss waterfall (pictured at the end) is from a different stream, but also from glacial waters.

GLACIER CAVES AND GEYSERS at Into the Glacier Tour - Iceland - Leonard Does Europe S1 E5
For our second full day in Iceland, we went on the epic 13+ hour Extended Into the Glacier Tour. This tour hits the following locations:
Deildartunguhver (geothermal hot spring)
Hraunfossar/Barnafoss (waterfalls)
Langjökull (ice cap glacier)
Þingvellir (continental divide national park)
Geysir (a geyser, duh)
Gullfoss (double-decker waterfall)
The glacier was awesome and looked like the Hoth Rebel Base from Empire Strikes Back, but every stop was incredible. It's a LONG day, but totally worthwhile if you only have a short amount of time in Iceland.

THINGS TO DO in Iceland (in this episode):
► Hofn - Höfn or Höfn í Hornafirði is an Icelandic fishing town in the southeastern part of Iceland which offers incredible views of the Vatnajökull glacier.
► Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon - Massive ice chunks from the nearby Vatnajökull Glacier float down into the glacier lagoon. You can even take a boat tour into the glacier lagoon and get a closer look.
► Diamond Beach - Diamond Beach is just across the road from the Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. It’s called Diamond Beach because large chunks of glacier ice flows down from the lagoon and stick on the black sand beach, which look like diamonds.
► Local Guide of Vatnajökull - Local Guide Glacier Tours is a family owned and operated business that has been running glacier tours since 1991. In the summer months they run glacier hikes over the glacier and in the winter months they offer Ice Cave Tours. Book a tour here - - tell them we sent you : )
► Vatnajökull Glacier Tour - The Vatnajökull Glacier is Europe’s largest glacier, covering 8% of Iceland’s landmass. Traversing down into the dark gray and bright blue caves, seeing the naturally formed underground passageways and glacier rivers - this is definitely one of the most unique experiences of the entire trip.
► Hengifoss - The third highest waterfall in Iceland at 128 meters high. The rock formation around the waterfall is absolutely incredible and its a great little hike along the Fjord in East Iceland.
► Iceland Reindeer - Wild reindeer live only in East Iceland, but like most animals in Iceland, they are not native. Truly incredible to see!
► Seljavallalaug Pool - Built in 1923, its said to bee one of, if not the oldest swimming pool in Iceland. Although it is technically geothermal heated, it’s not the warmest of waters. Be warned.
► Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon - 100 meters deep and about two kilometers long, the Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon is an incredible site to see. It has recently become famous thanks to Justin Bieber shooting his 2015 smash hit “I’ll Show You” here. I can’t lie, I liked the video… minus the underwear scene - not necessary Justin.
► Sólheimasandur Plane Crash - This famous plane crash in Iceland rests on a black sand beach in Southeastern Iceland. It crashed here in 1973, when a US Navy DC plane ran out of fuel - fortunately everyone in the plane survived. It is about a 4km walk from the parking lot to see the plane crash.
